Karl Urban has been in some of the biggest movies and at the same time is the most underrated actor that deserves so many more parts and more recognition. Dredd needs a sequel, for one. Hell, I even liked him in DOOM.
I'm a gigantic Xena fan, but I honestly believe that only Lucy and Renee look back on it as a proud moment in their careers. For many young Kiwi actors like Karl it was just a way to get noticed on a syndicated American show and not something iconic. Danielle Cormack (Ephiny) was embarrassed by her performance and said in 2019 she doesn't really like fans bringing it up. Xena has almost no presence in NZ 25 years later, she has a street named after her, that's it, while you can still visit Lord of the Rings attractions. Hercules and Xena were mostly a springboard to put New Zealand on the entertainment map for bigger things. Xena's cultural impact was far greater outside NZ than in it.
@@AtenRa Xena was never huge in NZ though. But like all of that genre shows, it's the cumulative worldwide audience that makes it viable. More likely he just didn't have any props from it as he wasn't there when production ended. Even if he did 'cupid's wings' are hardly as cool as those helmets or Carrie's autograph.
You don't realize until you see all this stuff and start thinking about it that the dude has been a major presence in sci-fi / pop culture, he's been in so much of it
He was awesome in Dredd. Such a good movie that needs a sequel. Gotta point out the pistol from Almost Human is a slightly modified version of the pistol from Timecop.
Don't hate me if I'm wrong but I heard they are talking about doing a show called "megacity 1" and they supposedly talked to Urban. Let's hope it's true, no one else can do Dredd better than Urban.
@@lootjunior Yeah, Mr H Reviews has an interview with the producers on his channel. Urban has said he wants to be involved because he's loved the character since childhood. Unfortunately there has been a lot of delays, rewrites and creators leaving the project etc. But Rebellion (who own Judge Dredd IP) built an entire studio so they must be serious about it. When/if it gets made it will be unrelated to the film.
In alternate reality it wasn't and The Boys' Billy Butcher is played by Rowan Atkinson. I'd say a fair trade even though the show was one of the best scifi shows in a long time.
I wouldn‘t call a show with an 8 out of 10 rating on IMDb „underrated“. It was rated quite right. People liked it. I guess it was too expensive for the crowd it was drawing. It might have worked better if they‘d introduced more of the series continuous mythology much earlier, with clearer hints in every episode. It was great! Fetzer Valve I‘d say that Almost Human could have gone on for three to four years without conflicting with The Boys. I‘d loved to see that.
I like to imagine Karl puts on his Dredd helmet and badge along with a Riddick blaster and wonders around his house going "Pew pew I am the law pew pew!"

One of my favorite actors of all time!! He’s extremely underrated but his performances in Dredd, LOTR, Star Trek, Riddick, and The Boys is extremely overlooked imo.
Imagine how awkward it would be to be caught with a prop. I’d feel like a kid caught with a hand in the cookie jar. Also, can we appreciate how adorable this is? Its nice to know at least some of these stars are as geeky and nerdy as us.
Huge thanks to Karl urban for being the best Dredd to ever grace the silver screen! Many are still heartbroken there were no sequels, but what he did to bring the character to life will always be appreciated and held in reverence by the fans. Absolute legend! 👌❤️✌️🤘🖖

A common problem at fox. Firefly, Terranova, arrested development, futureama, almost human. Also, undeclared and sarah conner chronicles. But those two were a little more niche shows. I loved them, but not made for the masses. I swear, the people who made these decisions are nincompoops. That said, Terranova was a super expensive series to make. In a time when TV wasn't really spending that kind of money on episodes. Now a days, its common, yes. But terra nova started that trend, and fox didn't want to pay to play. Firefly was cancelled for that reason too, but it pales in comparison to the cost of Terranova. The first episode alone was something around 20-25 million!

I'm so glad he added something from Chronicles of Riddick and Almost Human. I was pissed off that they canceled that show because it was really starting to get into the main plot. Fox has a bad habit of shooting themselves in the foot and cancelling hit shows before letting them pick up momentum and word of mouth. Did anybody else hope he would take out some momentos from Xena and Hercules eras? No? Just me then.
No way! Just recognised the sword from pathfinder in the background! 😅 that was the first film of Karl Urbans that I’d seen, where I realised I was watching someone who was going to be a HUGE star one day in the future! His turn as Dredd was absolutely perfect. Many filmmaker friends of mine swear by that film. To this day I'd still love to see him reprise the role in a sequel, or better yet, a Mega City One series.
I ONLY bothered to watch it because he was in it. I could care less that Dwayne Johnson was in it. Been following his career since he was young. Love his acting. He's hot as f and he has a boyish cute charm about him.

I consider the conlfict between The Boys and The Seven to be the equivalent of playing chess with 15 knights against an opponent with 15 queens, respectively. It's like, the Supes are powerful and influential, but The Boys have the closest chance of actually beating them, which I am hooked by.
Karl is such a cool dude, I wish him the best, also he is Judge Dredd, he deserves another chance to play him on a tv series, that would be awesome, and his collection is so nice!

Watched Riddick years back and when Vaaco emerged I was amazed, awe struck, and magnetised by him, realised I had seen him in the second Bourne movie as the Russian cop, and knowing he is a Kiwi and that I am to brings me great pride. My opinion, he is one very underrated actor and I pray he goes on to make more movies of calibre that he has done so far. Would love to shake this mans hand. Go Karl!

I really liked "Almost human" It's a shame that in my country for some odd reason we only get to see all the good stuff like a year after first release... I'ts even more annoying because every time I yell "YES MORE" I only get "lol just cancelled now". -_-
Almost Human, Judge Dredd, a few very much underrated pieces of pop-culture that i really dig. Almost Human really is a Blade Runner prequel, too many people don't know that, or even know the series at all, and it was pretty well executed. Judge Dredd was awesome, hard, gritty, doesn't come any further than one (al be it a very big) building, but it's a really great looking action movie. Both of those should be expanded upon really. Also, so far, just about everything Karl Urban does is pretty fucking good, he really knocks out those roles good.
Name for me ANY other single actor who can convincingly portray both Dr. "Bones" McCoy AND Judge Dredd. Karl has got to be one of the coolest and most talented actors out there. I was BUMMED when Almost Human was cancelled. What an awesome show! Anyway, great video, thanks!

@@hades6797 And I definitely believe that the Supes, particularly Homelander as the antagonist, is what keeps the story interesting.
I consider the conlfict between The Boys and The Seven to be the equivalent of playing chess with 15 knights against an opponent with 15 queens, respectively.
It's like, the Supes are powerful and influential, but The Boys have the closest chance of actually beating them, which I am hooked by.

Haven't seen 'The Boys' yet, but so many great characters over the years. Loved 'Almost Human' & your Dredd. Was a little nervous leading up to the 1st Star Trek, but you, Karl, nailed it. If I see 'Karl Urban' in the cast, I know I should at least check it out. LOL
He's been in so much great stuff. Guy has a filmography that I could use as a favorites playlist.
Dread is an amazing movie, one of Karl's best action roles, its a long shot but please make a sequel, I've heard about a TV show, being in the works.

Watched Riddick years back and when Vaaco emerged I was amazed, awe struck, and magnetised by him, realised I had seen him in the second Bourne movie as the Russian cop, and knowing he is a Kiwi and that I am to brings me great pride. My opinion, he is one very underrated actor and I pray he goes on to make more movies of calibre that he has done so far. Would love to shake this mans hand. Go Karl!

Almost Human and Dredd, i wanted more of those when I saw them. I was sad that there were no seasons and sequels for those. Great work in both of them.

Karl Is the goat. DREDD is by far the most underrated movie ever. You do great work. Long when we are both dead and dust.. you will still be remembered. That's something only kings and legends once had.

Yes, I agree with the all the comments we need Dread sequel. I still don't understand why that movie is so underrated. Loved it, watched probably 5-6 times.

Karl has been good to exceptional in every roll I've seen him in. I hope to see a lot more of him.
I really liked "Almost human" It's a shame that in my country for some odd reason we only get to see all the good stuff like a year after first release... I'ts even more annoying because every time I yell "YES MORE" I only get "lol just cancelled now". -_-
Almost Human, Judge Dredd, a few very much underrated pieces of pop-culture that i really dig.
Almost Human really is a Blade Runner prequel, too many people don't know that, or even know the series at all, and it was pretty well executed.
Judge Dredd was awesome, hard, gritty, doesn't come any further than one (al be it a very big) building, but it's a really great looking action movie.
Both of those should be expanded upon really.
Also, so far, just about everything Karl Urban does is pretty fucking good, he really knocks out those roles good.
Almost Human was also a great series, wonderful acting. Should have been renewed.

Name for me ANY other single actor who can convincingly portray both Dr. "Bones" McCoy AND Judge Dredd. Karl has got to be one of the coolest and most talented actors out there. I was BUMMED when Almost Human was cancelled. What an awesome show! Anyway, great video, thanks!

Oh man, Karl as Butcher in the boys, that show's just awesome. Butcher a bit tongue in cheek but totally badass.
And there were a fair few moments where... let's just say The Red Wedding didn't seem so bad anymore.
