Hey Martin. Not sure how this vid came up but it is one of the first one of your retrorestore videos I ever watched. I remember thinking at the time that you were a lunatic after my own heart. Still hanging in there and enjoying every minute of it . You, Sharon and the Butler clan occupy a special place in my heart. Love you guys!
Thanks Jack, That's a nice thing to say.
That's one of the coolest mowers I've seen in a long time! Good video!
Just want to get it running. Mitchell
Glad you are not given up on it Great video👍

Yes Ted, It will bring the plastic colour up again
You gave it a good going over. I'd get a coil ,too. Just gotta know, you know. Looking forward to the next episode.
Sharon did a fantastic job on the sunroom.
Yes Jim, I'll be getting the coil. The hot tub room is looking good again after years. She is doing a good job.

Im back off my holidays now! Ill keep my eye out for one
I'll be watching Paul.
Your first video (Part 1 ) was a RUclips suggestion and now I'm hocked on these you have won yourself a new subscriber. I have an old Suffolk punch mower it's not a worlds worst but I may record a cold start in years just for fun and support for this cause :-)
Hey, thanks for the sub Steve. Glad you are enjoying the vids.
Cheers
Martin
Entertaining as always Mart, Thanks for sharing mate.
Baz.
Thanks Baz

Haha, I'll sort it tom lol
Bad luck Matin, its a real shame it wouldn't start. keeping my fingers crossed for you! let's hope it doesn't beat you. Absolutely love your videos
Hey, thanks Shaun, i'll be looking out for a new coil.
That pull start is like a workout. I'm sure you'll have it running next time. 👍
Yes I hope so bud.
Cheers
Martin
I hope you get it started - I moved house in April and found one of these hidden in the garden like yours. I was going to tip it but it could be my next challenge now!!! PS loving these worst lawnmower vids
Hey Marc, glad you are liking the vids bud.
Nice one Martin. I've got same problem with a strimmer just won't start.
Hope you sort it Gordon.
Great vid Martin
Cheers
Jamie
Cheers Jamie.
I remember my parents having one of these when they first came out in the early 70's
Like your videos me and my bro have fixed alot of mowers keep up the good work
Hi Martin, I've got an electric flymo in my barn which has got to be at least34 to 35 years old ( I used to cut my parents lawn with it when we I was a teenager, when we lived in Sutton,Surrey ). Gonna go and see if it still works. Not heard from mowerman since this series started. Reckon he's lost in the jungle looking for old mowers haha. All the best. Rob.
Haha, Rob, He's been away on hols but he's back now so keep watching.
Cheers
Martin
Good luck Martin, hope a replacement coil gets it running.
Thanks Nick.
We once had an electric Flymo Hover mower. That was hard work swinging it around but pretty funny too. As a kid I never understood why it just wouldn't cut in a straight line.
Haha, I've never used one Michael.
You don't want to i prefer ones with wheels.
Make more of these videos Martin
Yes, I an bud. Thanks for watching.
Cheers
Martin
Hi Martin I like the flimo I rebuilt a couple of mowers a few year s ago and I was nine
Nice one Tom.
Cheers
Martin
You were like Indiana jones when you cut back that bush to get to that Flymo lol
Haha, who knows what else is in there lol
Great video, Shame you did not get it going this time. I have the L400 flymo. Great when it runs but can be a pig to start.
Great video! Is there any other mowers in the bushes
Haha, I don't think there is but you never know lol
Its probably been said but you can test the coil with a multimeter. Great vids. I've just picked up a pile of flymos from auction.
Yes I know Jim, I was an electrician bud
Great video once again just wondering will there be other parts?
Yes, i'm going to get a new ignition coil.
Thank you .
I have one of these I've been putting off having a fiddle with as I've not done one before either so thanks for doing this vid. I will also be interested to see if it goes ok when the new coil arrives and if it needs the carb going through so I can cheat a little watching your video when I do mine:)
Haha nice one Simon, Let's hope I sort it lol
flymo is the worlds worst lawnmower. i had one when i was a kid. it was from mid 60's with a single speed two stroke techumseh that was made with no governor. as soon as it started to load the engine cutting grass it would slow down and fall to the ground because it lost lift. no matter how carefully it was used the lawn looked like the rolling seas. it came with a steel blade not string....that added to the excitement. ... and it makes your ankles green from blowing the clippings everywhere from under it.
I've never used one but this has a Tecumseh engine as well
With my experience of 2 strokes which I think that is, sometimes those coil packs just need a good clean to get them going. No idea why... It could also be water in the HT cable or coil itself though which might be game over for it unless a few hours in a hot place dries it out.
I'll be cleaning the coil Simon and trying again before buying a new one.
love these vids
Thanks Cody.
I think your nail it Martin . Is that engine a tecumseh 2 stroke just the style of filter looks familiar.
Cheers
Pete.
Yes it is Pete. Gotta get a new coil and air filter now.
Will run like a champ .
I want to see this one get running. I love old 2 stroke engines
I'll be getting a new ignition coil for this one.
im a big fan i like your show
Thanks Bud.
Did you check for any corrosion in the end of the HT lead?
Yes, That was fine Andy.
Martin hi buddy didn't these two strokes have points or is it a newer model
I would imagine so Tim, It was a while ago lol
Carefull with a new coil. I ordered a new coil for a Weedeater. 6 weeks later it arrived, took apart the engine, replaced it, put it back together, no start and NO SPARK. Bad coil from China. Do they still make Flymos? Maybe a collectors item, going up in value.
Yes, these are quite expensive Bri, looking for a coil. This one is a Tecumseh.
We wouldn't go into an area like that without thick pants gloves and boots, too many brown snakes around. I had a two stroke string trimmer that wouldn't start. Took the muffler off started first time, incorrect back pressure. A hornet had blocked the exhaust with its mud nest.
No snakes here Stewart. Wow, Hornet's nest in the exhaust, Just shows you where they can get.
You should do a video cutting down the weeds and seeing if there is anymore mowers you have forgot about
I agree because I think that once you find that it runs and runs decent after you little repairs to it there's no reason why you shouldn't take the rest of the way if the rest of it still decent Fly Mows are pretty valuable to
Yes, they do hold their price. I hope to get this one working.
Cheers
Martin
retrorestore cheers
Martin if you clean magnets and the coil contacts and on the fly wheel with a fine wet & dry paper I bet it will start
I've already done that Dave, It didn't start. Vid to follow shortly.
occasionally it sounded like it was so close to firing but the no spark meant it wasnt quite able to fire.
it sounded like it was starting to crank over just a bit longer each pull.
SO CLOSE but not quite.
I'll get there bud.
Cheers
Martin
Good sanding of coil and flywheel may get it going
I'll give that a go Jim.
Thanks
Martin
Martin, while you're ordering a coil - get a proper blade too! I don't know what a coule of bits of strimmer line are going to cut grass like but I don't have high expectations. In fact if (when) you get it going how about an appraissal of its cutting ability?
I've never used one of these John. not sure how they perform. We'll see.
Putting a metal blade on a mower that has a fiberglass or plastic deck seems like a good way to cut your leg off..
It looks more like a weed-eater, in mower form.
That was my first guess when i saw the dual cords underneath
have you tried to clean the mag and flywheel?
I'll give it a go.
Reminds me of my dads old lawnmower, runs like shit and backfires on the verge of blowing up but runs like a champ!
Haha, nice one Scott
i'm glad to see that even you have a problem once in a while Martin! (even if its temporary). i noticed the weight bench around the side of your house and you were on your tread mill/ cross trainer in a previous video, does this mean that the fitness videos are on their way?..... i still haven't got a mower crappy enough to do a video on yet, mine usually start out the way yours look after 5yrs in the undergrowth.!! hope you are having a good bank holiday mate...
HI Jon,
Yes, they all don't go smooth lol. Doing a little bit of exercise, nothing like I used to years ago but still dipping my toe in lol.
mmmm yes me too... i have lost 10st in the last 18months!! still a bit more to go yet though. but i did pick up an ebay bargain, to help me out a bit-a multigym for £20....and there are plenty of nice coastal walks down here in cornwall too for a bit of cardio!!
10 St, wow John, You must feel way better for shifting that bud.
just a bit martin....!! it certainly makes life a bit easier...
those flymo mowers are cool i been wanting one for a long time but unfortunately there non existing here in the states or altleast none for sale ive never seen one in person
Wayne Gregory I seen one just the other day on th side of the road for free here in new Zealand ha
I've never used one but looking forward to getting this one going Wayne.
Cheers
Martin
Wow, they are all over the globe lol
I always check the electrics first to give myself a fighting. Clean the pickup coil and flywheel, clean and gap the plug. Otherwise I'd have one arm like Popeye and one like Olive Oil. Across the pond Narragansett Bay
Trick that you could use to save a coil is sand the end of the coil that creates electricity on the fly will spinners elf send the part of the flywheel that would also connect current
Check out the rest of the vids in this series bud.
Cheers
Martin
Can you see if you have more mowers in the weeds and bring the series back
try cleaning the coil an the magnet's with sand paper it doses wonders
I'll give it a go Bob.
My thoughts exactly, once the coil and flywheel magnets get rusty it won't spark, clean up with emery and I bet it sparks. Oh and set the gap between coil and flywheel with a business card for a perfect gap.
It's a shame you didn't have a spare coil , sometimes those new parts can hurt the end profit .
This is a Tecumseh motor and the head quarters is near my home town,
Yes it is bud. It's used on quite a few different things.
yay...thankyou
I reckon you should dig the mother in law out of there and get her started - but then again....
Who knows what I may find in there lol
probably have to spin it faster than that but then again healthy spark will jump a good half inch or more when you pull the string like you mean it
Yes, I'll be cleaning the coil and trying again before I buy a new one.
Cheers
Martin
Gave u a tip if u havant got eny easy start dip ur sparkplug in to petrol and put it buck in it will start 95÷ it will start
Theres a mountfield in there somewhere
Were about
Fordgranada 1974 saw the bag for it. Shes a hidin in there
There is a Mountfield bag but I'm not sure about the mower
retrorestore chop down the weeds and see what other hidden gems are in there
if you haven't jumped nine miles by now holding the plug wire like that, then you definitely got no spark. lol
I was holding the rubber cap Jack.
still not good especially on an old mower that part can be dry rot n you'd light up... be safe my friend.
have you found thate body yet ha ha ( keep it up )
Haha, not yet lol
😄
Do the roller lawn mower
that one is next.
Clean the rust off the megets that should help
I'm going to try that.
Cheers
We can't win them all!
Clean up the coil and magnets
I'll try that.
I see poison ivy!!!
I See lawnmowers lol
Car boretta
Hope u eat the blackberrys
Yes, Sharon made a crumble
Man get a drill to start your engines with so much easier to pull trigger instead of pull rope
I got to make an adaptor for that bud
You wont see a spark in day time it needs to be dark and little light
THE HOT ROD GUYS KAI If there is a good spark I can usually see it in daylight, so that shouldn't be a problem
I agree if it's a weak spark.
retrorestore yer try it in a dark work shop by the way when u get them all going those grassboxes where you got the mowers from put them on the mowers and mow some grass to put them to the test
you need to claen the carbader put a new air fullter a new plog my need a carbrert claer the jet
Yes, I'll be doing that
