It'll be a while before we see Tash (in the flesh at least) on Netflix. Would be cool if they planned enough ahead to have his image cameo in the form of statues or on armor in earlier book adaptations though!
@@NerdoftheRings my thinking on this is it could be a meld of cgi and a real actor like it was for Andy serkis as gollum or Benedict cumberbatch as Smaug . It is the only way it would make sense given the advancement in that kind of technology and given how they did things like the centaurs and griffins in the first film .

Aslan said that he and Tash were opposites, so totally opposite that nothing evil could be done for Aslan and nothing good for Tash. He did not say they were EQUAL opposites. It's like comparing 100 million and -1. They are opposite in nature, but completely different in magnitude.

Today, I finished the Narnia saga. Last night, I started the Last Battle and after finishing that first chapter, I was glued to that book. So much that I stayed up ALL NIGHT to read the entire thing! There were so many callbacks and references to all the precious books. And after reading all seven books one after the other, the Last Battle's ending chapter filled my heart with so much happiness, and my eyes were bursting with tears of joy. When I go to Heaven, the first thing I'm gonna do, is find C.S. Lewis and tell him how magnificent of an ending he wrote for his masterpiece fantasy.
In truth, many people loved and revered Tash, including the young kalomean in the last battle, who Aslan greeted and stated that although he often worshipped Tash, in truth everything good in Tash’s name was in reality in Aslan’s name and anything bad done in Aslan’s name was vice versa to Tash.
This is a syncretic belief I often had to confront growing up. Some christians believe that since all good is of god, and from god, that whenever people worship other gods for good things, they are worshiping God and are just confused. Likewise, when someone claims terrible things in God's name, they are talking about another god and are just confused. Not that I believe any of that.
@@TheCrazydude17 well in reality I think it means there’s good and there’s evil, and regardless what name you use or what words, your actions and thoughts which are good, will go to good and whatever is bad will go to bad, regardless what names you say they belong to.
I like that they are solid opposites of the universe like that, if the devil and god do exist in this way I feel it just makes sense, alongside even the devil in turn having a place in the world and plan despite seemingly being an opposite rivaling god.
@@kennethsatria6607 they’re always opposites that coexist in the same space, we see it in our every day lives whether we acknowledge it as that or not, we see death and life in the same space, solid ground and light air, Black and white, day and night, hatred and kindness, order and chaos. @@TheCrazydude17 I took it to mean that every good feeds Aslan and every evil feeds Tash regardless of who you are intending to aggrandize by your actions…. Much evil has been done in the name of my religion (true on some level for all of religions) that does not mean it pleased or brought glory to my God.
I was in elementary when I first read about Narnia. Weirdly, I read the Last Battle first because it was the only one of the series that wasn't taken out of our school library. That image of Tash has stuck to my head since then, and it's truly terrifying to me even after nearly four decades. Subscribed. I'll hang out here for awhile to relive my childhood.
Honestly, Tash was never an antagonist at all to begin with down to his actions. For the most part, he shows up when the actual antagonists don't want him to, and complies with the requests of Aslan and his followers while smiting those who used his name falsely. He did ruin Ginger's scheme and was outright hostile to the ape and that captain dude, all of which greatly helped Aslan. The guy looks scary as hell, but overall he has only ever helped the protagonists in the extremely brief moments he showed up as the scariest indirect ally.
I think Tash is the sort of creature who is only allowed to harm those who call on him directly. When Tirian, Jill, Eustace and the gang saw him in the woods, he didn't even seem aware of them.
Dude. I found your channel on a YT suggestion, and I’m already subbed after one video. Good to see someone else appreciates the writings of Lewis and his symbolism and imagery. I’ve never considered wormwood to be a part of Tash’s metaphor, but that’s very interesting. And I definitely appreciate your nods to Lewis’s original intention and belief, too; teared up a little when you talked about the One Who has no equal.
Tash was easily the most fear inducing entity in all of Narnia for me, being the most mysterious and disturbing thing to be described to me. I can't wait to see what your theories of him are in the next episode!
If I remember the books correctly, Tash wins in the end, because he gets what is his and then leaves. In effect, he knew his limits and never directly challenged Aslan, this ensuring his survival with the souls that are his by right.
He would probably have been in Narnian hell tormenting all the souls that failed Aslan's judgement in TLB. Sorta like Satan in the Ninth Circle of Hell in Dante's Inferno.
Oh my word! Tash is a Skeksis! No wonder I found the Dark Crystal movie so creepy as a kid! I had Tash in the back of my mind whenever I saw those disgusting creatures. Awesome summary! Keep at it!
With the number of references to the Skeksis, I'm wondering if Tash might not have been back-of-the-mind inspiration for the people who made the designs!
In my own headcanon, I think of him as an elder god, maybe an aspect of Nyarlathotep. If you think about it, the Chronicles of Narnia and the Cthulhu mythos oddly dovetail in places. Tash in The Last Battle seems a bit like Nyarlathotep's dark cloud form in "The Haunter of the Dark."
Hey it would be great if you could do a history of the Kings and Queens of Narnia starting with King Frank and Queen Helen and ending with King Tirian the last king of Narnia it would be interesting to see! thank you again and I look forward to your next video!
Yeah there’s many interesting facts about the old narnian monarchy (house of frank) like Gale the first empereor of the lone islands and Swanwhite the first recorded Queen of Narnia
The relationship between Aslan and Tash could be similar to that of god and satan. While satan is God’s opposite he is not god’s equal. The same can be said for Aslan and Tash, they are opposites but not equals.
Narnias not an allegory. C.S. Lewis described it as a "supposal", but the most important thing is that good story was essential. There's definitely not as much world building as LOTR, but there's an amazingly deep well to draw from!
I JUST discovered your channel and omg I’m obsessed. You’ve truly brought an already amazing world even more alive to me. Thank you so much and keep it up!
Great video! I look forward to the next one on theories about Tash's origins. The two I already know of are that (1) he was one of the wicked creatures which emerged in the north when Jadis was there in hiding, and (2) he is either Earth's Satan in his Narnian form (like Jesus Christ as Aslan) or a Narnian equivalent. Perhaps, if you take Narnia's living stars as the equivalent to angels, Tash could be a fallen star? Evidently far worse than Coriakin. Just thought it married well with the Wormwood connexion.
I second the Fallen Star theory. Maybe not Satan himself but definitely in close relation. I always found Jadis’ quote about “having to do certain things to obtain power” and that always made me think of Tash.
@@ToyMaggie13 interesting that the bible verse that was quoted mentions wormwood because Lewis uses the name in the book screwtape letters for the junior devil and nephew of screwtape
The simplest answer to me seems to be that Tash is Satan to Aslan's Christ. Tash claims himself to be equal to Aslan, is worshiped as a god, but is wicked and evil. He seems like an anti aslan (and certainly is the AntiChrist of Narnia) but he's not equal to Aslan in any sense. This particularly fits Lewis' view of Satan where Satan is not the advesary of God (as some Christians suppose) because as a mere fallen angel Satan couldn't conceivable oppose God and Jesus (instead in Lewis Satan is the advesary of the archangel Michael). I'm interested to see your next video (liked and subed) but at least imo this seems to fit Lewis' theology and fiction pretty well.
I'm going to have to read The Last Battle again to refresh my memory so I'll be better prepared for your next video. I really enjoy your work and don't mind waiting for the next episode.
Agreed. Tash in The Last Battle and the island of dreams in Voyage of the Dawn Treader have haunted the back of my mind since I was a kid. Further more, the space trilogy often dips into horror. Especially That Hideous Strength, which turns into almost straight up horror near the end. There is even a scene where a human sacrifice is offered in a pseudo science/pagan rite.
@@peterholden2016 that’s what I was going to say! The space trilogy is full of pure horror. Truly scary stuff. But the Beautiful images are even stronger in those books than the scary moments such as being kidnapped by mad scientists, rock climbing in pure darkness, and a evil corporation that tells you to step on a crucifix. Lewis knew how to do it. He’s a genius.
I appreciate your deep dives into Narnia. Arda is much more fleshed out, and so naturally gets a ton more attention, but I love seeing such a level of detail afforded to this world.
Im glad im bumped to this channel I've been longing for Narnia. You see they didnt finished the movie series but Im still hoping they will. I want to see pevensie children again.
The way you describe Tash makes me think he's actually "Death" in the 1 Corinthians sense. "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." 1 Corinthians 15:26
I remember the first time I read the description of Tash, I was SO TERRIFIED. I felt I was overshadowed by some evil force, or *by Tash himself* I'm a big fan of Tolkien's work, and there are more horrible creatures in his lore. However, none were described as terrible as Tash.
It really is amazing how just in just handful of sentences--with absolutely no buildup or foreshadowing at all--Lewis was able to create such a chilling scene.
This is the first video of yours that i've been exposed to, but it's safe to say that you got me hooked and i know i will spend my free time watching every video you've uploaded on narnia, this just brought back all the love i had for this story as a kid and i am so happy to go into a deeper study of it now as an adult. i also love the emphasis you have placed on the religious aspect of the story that CS Lewis aimed to communicate to his readers. i really hope this channel continues to grow into the organic numbers it deserves! thank you!!!!
Wow. The production value in these videos is incredible. Thank you for putting all this work into expounding upon The Chronicles of Narnia. My wife and I just finished our Narnia read-through yesterday and watching your videos on Tash and all the other Narnia lore/theories have been a blessing. Keep it up! Also, please do a video on the other pagan gods and deities featured in Narnia and how that relates to Aslan (like why would they be allowed there in the first place? Who made them? What are they?). Thanks!
I have been waiting years to bring to fine focus my awareness of the fiction of one of my greatest human-icons, Lewis, and you are the perfect channel to aid me! Thank God for your passion and work :)

This made me want more Narnia movies!! I remember we saw the first 2 new Narnia in my middle school for english classes - then we should write an essay after.
Love your videos on Narnia man! Would you perchance also be intrested in making a video in the future on the history of the dwarfs in Narnia as well? Either way, i'm looking forward to your next video on Narnia!
Though always kind of thought that Tash being an Anti-Aslan more has to do with terms of morality/benevolence than omnipotence (what really is more depicted as Anti-God are Angra Mainyu and his brother or how the Devil in some branches of Christianity have him as being a near equal). But more as in Aslan is completely good whereas Tash is completely evil. Aslan is merciful while Tash is wrathful.
This could make sense if you consider Lewis's views on the after life. Heaven and Hell are not equal even if they are effectively in opposition. All of Hell is like a speck of dust to the endless world of Heaven.
I don't think there are any prominent branches of Christianity that canonically hold satan as GOD's equal. It is usually just a folk belief or some popular misunderstanding.
I read the Last Battle in 5th grade, completing my journey through Narnia. When I encountered Tash and his frightening mural that appeared in the beginning of the chapter, I knew he was certainly a menacing force. I always felt there was more to say about him, but in the end it seemed he was just another force of evil that devoured lesser evils as did Jadis.
It's been like 16 actual years since I read the books, to the point that I've forgotten nearly everything about them. But I saw the thumbnail and immediately had this singular memory of reading the opening description and how striking Tash's description was.
The first time I read The Last Battle as a child, Tash scared me so much I got goosebumps and had to put the book down for a while. As an adult I have an insatiable appetite for cosmic horror. Coincidence? 🤔😆
I appreciate your dedication, time, and work you put into this channel. I've already learned alot and reap from the seeds you've planted. Looking forward to getting to The Last Battle so I can see Tash firsthand.
An amazing job with this breakdown and explanation of Tash my friend. I wish my late grandmother was here to watch this video. It was she along with a teacher of mine who introduced me to the Chronicles of Narnia and she truly would’ve enjoyed this video.
Part of me wonders if Tash had been called into the world of Narnia, either by the ancestors of the Calormen as one of ancestral gods, or by Jadis, summoning dark spirits to try to break the barrier made by the tree from the Apple in the central garden. The fact that he isn't able to just wreak whatever havok he wants on the world suggests that he bound somehow--and while he is Aslan's opposite, he is nowhere his equal, so he stays in those bounds to avoid having the Great Lion unleash his wrath on him.
I am so proud and happy because someone like you exist! Someone with a definitely channel who makes these amazing detailed videos of Narnia. Thank you sooo much for your effort! These videos are one of a kind i swear.

I have just recently finished listening to the box set of the Narnia series. I had read it many years ago, but this was like rediscovering them all over again. I can't tell you the dread I felt at the beginning of The Last Battle, nor the sadness as I witnessed the end of Narnia. This episode rekindled the dread I felt at the first appearance of Tash. Thank you so much for your narration and insight into this wonderful series.
I’m not sure what theories already exist regarding Tash but I always figured Tash was the narnian form of lucifer. Much like Aslan is the Narnian form of Jesus. Tash would’ve found a way into narnia and tricked the calormen into thinking he was their god. Or maybe the pirates whose descendants became the calormen brought him in with them when they found a way into narnia
I always thought that Jadis was Lucifer and Tash represented Allah which I guess is the same thing. I guess Tash is like the Antichrist because he claimed to be Aslan in a tent
I just discovered your channel and it is amazing! You have earned another subscription! Another aspect of Tash not mentioned in this video is that the Tisrocs claimed descent from him, as related by Aravis when she is telling her story just after she is introduced in "The Horse and His Boy". As a lifelong fan of Narnia, I have long pondered whether this claim is spurious or if there is some truth to it.
It makes me think of the classical world, where people liked to claim descent from a god. For example, Julius Caesar liked to claim his family was descended from Venus through the mythical founder of Rome, Aeneas. I think the Near Eastern kings (Persian etc) also claimed and were worshipped as literal gods.
Tash mostly represents Lucifer, the fallen and rebellious angel who dared to defy God. And as Aslan is capable of going to all existing universes, to cause pain is suffering. Once again I congratulate you, for the excellent work you do in creating your videos. See you soon.
The Last Battle has always been probably my favorite of the Narniad(same with the Horse and His Boy actually). Tash is an interesting figure, the simplest explanation would be he is Satan himself.

@@loremaster234 That's a really interesting way to look at that. I'll admit, I never thought of that, but it makes sense in a way.
I think Tash is representing the Anti-Christ (from the book of Revelations) who is the son of Satan.
@@ToyMaggie13 interesting that the bible verse that was quoted mentions wormwood because Lewis uses the name in the book screwtape letters for the junior devil and nephew of screwtape
@@michelleflood7225 Oh yeah! “The Screwtape Letters”! I read that book in school!
Satan is our adversary
He did try to oppose God and convinced a third of Creation
@@ChristianAuditore14
Not an equal Adversary in power to God, is what he's saying
I'm going to have to read The Last Battle again to refresh my memory so I'll be better prepared for your next video. I really enjoy your work and don't mind waiting for the next episode.
I always thought Tash was meant to be Satan but I love this analysis of his character too
He legitimately frightens me so much 😱
@ezrastardust3124 yes I daw Tash as Satan of Narnia
C.W Lewis could have been a great horror-genre author.
Correction-*C.S* Lewis. I suppose Lewis did write the Screwtape Letters if that counts.
He comes very close to writing horror in the second of his sci-fi trilogy, Perelandra.
For sure. I only recently recognized that the chapter of the Magician's Nephew in Chan was my first brush with cosmic horror.
So glad to have found this channel, congrats on 1 more sun.
You made my Saturday, man! Keep up the great work
I just went on a c.s. Lewis spree over the last few months, screw tape letters Atm. So glad I found this channel. Thank you for your hard work.
Well Done again on another fab video, have told a load of friends about this fabulous channel. Long live narnia may it forever be in my heart
I appreciate your deep dives into Narnia. Arda is much more fleshed out, and so naturally gets a ton more attention, but I love seeing such a level of detail afforded to this world.
What a great channel!!!! Would love to see your treatments of Reepicheep and, personally, the full story of Susan.
Finally a new video!!! And what a topic!!!
When I think about Aslan .. the Lion of Judah comes to my mind.
I was in my 20's when I read the Chronicles of Narnia and yeah Tash freaked me out even then.
I had no idea I needed this kind of content until I saw this video!
I remember the first time I read the description of Tash, I was SO TERRIFIED. I felt I was overshadowed by some evil force, or *by Tash himself*
I'm a big fan of Tolkien's work, and there are more horrible creatures in his lore. However, none were described as terrible as Tash.
It really is amazing how just in just handful of sentences--with absolutely no buildup or foreshadowing at all--Lewis was able to create such a chilling scene.
That is why you should worship Tash! Tash! Tash! Inexorable Tash!
Me too.
I just found your channel and I'm so glad I did! It's nice to hear more things about the world of Narnia!
Great video. Tash is the stuff of nightmares. It really scared me as a child.
Thanks!
Very glad to see a new video on this channel!
I have been waiting years to bring to fine focus my awareness of the fiction of one of my greatest human-icons, Lewis, and you are the perfect channel to aid me! Thank God for your passion and work :)
By the Lion's mane - this was worth the wait ! 🦁
This is the first video of yours I've stumbled upon, but you got my subscribe and like at just 28 secs in. I look forward to exploring your channel. Further up and further in!
I just came across this video and i am astonished with the quality. Liked and subscribed, keep it going, really good job!
This made me want more Narnia movies!! I remember we saw the first 2 new Narnia in my middle school for english classes - then we should write an essay after.
Hopefully Netflix Narnia won't disappoint!

Great video as usual. 5:38 what a hauntingly beautiful image

Woah you ain't getting out that aslanly. Now sit your tash down and pay for crimes.
Underrated comment friend.
This made my day, thanks.
Tie this fella down! Give him twenty Tashes!
This channel is everything my Narnian heart has been craving.
It is usually just a folk belief or some popular misunderstanding.
if your looking at any "branch" that claims that satan is in anyway Gods equal your not looking at Christianity your looking at a cult
In Revelations Jesus is wrathful. He will have a sword for a tongue.
@@tylerpatti9038 Much blood was spilled to ensure that no branches of Christianity considered Satan to be God's equal...
Discovered you channel thanks to this video. Good work, and really interesting!
Just stumbled onto your channel, looking forward to going back through your older videos… I very much enjoyed this one
I’m the same, but I still can’t read the last battle again 😅 it still scares me
I absolutely love this channel I get so excited whenever you post. Looking fkoto the next video
I appreciate your dedication, time, and work you put into this channel. I've already learned alot and reap from the seeds you've planted. Looking forward to getting to The Last Battle so I can see Tash firsthand.
okay, this channel is dope, subbed.
This was worth the wait 😊
Thanks so much for your encouragement!

Thanks for the A2A this video. Brought back memories from my childhood. Hope to subscribe to your channel.
Oh man I want more of this guy. Come on give us part 2!
Such a tone of dread--even in the opening pages. Really amazing writing.
@@patrickphilip777 Allah is God. Lol I’m not a Muslim either. Tash represents the anti christ. Hence the Last Battle, revelations
Jadis incarnate ?

I just discovered your channel and it is amazing! You have earned another subscription! Another aspect of Tash not mentioned in this video is that the Tisrocs claimed descent from him, as
related by Aravis when she is telling her story just after she is introduced in "The Horse and His Boy". As a lifelong fan of Narnia, I have long pondered whether this claim is spurious or if there is some truth to it.
Thanks so much for subscribing! You're absolutely right--its an interesting detail. I'll be discussing this in the next episode...stay tuned!
I love these videos! Thanks for enriching my life!
Tash mostly represents Lucifer, the fallen and rebellious angel who dared to defy God.
And as Aslan is capable of going to all existing universes, to cause pain is suffering.
Once again I congratulate you, for the excellent work you do in creating your videos.
See you soon.
New to the channel, but this and the Life of Jadis videos were just incredible and well-written 😘👌 Thank you so much!
Wow! Thank you so much!
@@IntotheWardrobe Tash be giving me some tzeentch vibes.
I do my best to re-read all the Chronicles between October and December 31. Done so for many years. It's like visiting old friends.
The Last Battle has always been probably my favorite of the Narniad(same with the Horse and His Boy actually).
Tash is an interesting figure, the simplest explanation would be he is Satan himself.
Now I suspect Tash may have inspired both the Skeksis from The Dark Crystal and the Lords of Change of Warhammer
