  • 100 years after the first edition, the city of Paris will host the Olympic Games in 2024. A sporting event awaited with impatience in the four corners of the world, which will see for the occasion a city of light shine with a thousand sparkles.
    From the Stade de France to the Eiffel Tower, through the Grand Palais and the Place de la Concorde, the whole city of Paris and its region will be a festive ground. But in addition to the sports, the infrastructures will also be developed accordingly. The Montparnasse Tower will be completely transformed, as will the Grand Paris Express project, which will considerably improve the Parisian transport network with 4 new metro lines.
    Finally, the issues of security, financing and renovation of the great emblematic buildings of our beautiful capital will be discussed in this video. To discover in pictures, here, on Looking 4! I wish you a good video🤩

    Hi everyone. Please, could you tell me if I have mispronounced some words? I would like to improve my English! Thank you for your answers.

    • @cam4007
      @cam4007 Год назад +9

      Hi Looking4En. Being respectfully honest: Your English is perfectly understandable, but heavily accented. Some of your vowels are particularly French sounding.
      For example, the "e" in "region" is a long sound, more similar to the French "i" but slightly longer. R-iii-gion.
      Your "u" sounds are also particularly French, like in "rugby". This is a common mispronunciation, even among fluent English-speaking French. It should be almost like a short "a" sound instead, like the first syllable in the French "adieu". Almost like "r-A-gby".
      Your short "o" sounds are too short for English, such as in the word "host". Americans and British sound slightly different here, but in general it sounds similar to the French word for water "eau" but slightly longer.
      Hope this helps.

    • @cam4007
      @cam4007 Год назад +3

      Occasionally some of your long syllables are a little off too, but this is incredibly difficult to master in English because there's no real pattern. An example would be "tournaments" at 1:18. The emphasis is on the first syllable, as in: TOUR-na-ments.
      A couple of seconds later, the word prestigious has emphasis on the second syllable: pres-TIG-i-ous.
      Getting the rhythm of the syllables correct in English is a crucial step in mastering native pronunciation. Bonne chance!

      Je pense que c'est extrêmement risqué, si le contexte social est tendu on peut courir à la catastrophe.
      Si ça avait lieu maintenant en plein mouvement contre la réforme des retraites ce serait un fiasco total, et je sais pas comment ce sera dans un an, l'eau aura coulé sous les ponts mais je doute quand même sincèrement que ce soit très paisible. Un tel événement dans un espace public c'est vraiment tendre la joue...
      La formule classique d'un petit son et lumière au stade de France avec défilé des délégations aurait sans doute été plus simple, moins risqué, pour un résultat quand même acceptable.

    The Olympics anywhere is always special for all athletes and for all sporting fans. Seems like Paris might not have enough time to prepare though to meet the ridiculous levels of expectations set by various parties. Accomodating the competitors,,,oh yes just build a whole 'village', ie a town somewhere close by...How about reconfigurating your transport network and built new metros lines... Oh yes no problem (!!!) The event is so huge that a city, (or region, or WHOLE country) needs twenty years to even attempt to be 'ready' whatever that means... Maybe the event needs to go back to basics.

    I enjoyed your video -- but may I make one correction? The Centennial Games, Atlanta 1996, and Salt Lake 2002 winter Games, both came in under budget and even made slight profits. When their books were closed, Atlanta 1996 showed a $56 mil profit; while Salt Lake 2002 made a $10 million profit. That's the thing with Olympic Games and World Cups held in the US -- the budgets are tightly adhered to and because of very strict controls, do NOT spin out of control. Looking forward to a great set of games in Paris 2024.

    • @rhettgannon4417
      @rhettgannon4417 Год назад +2

      Considering that government expenditure on such events in the US is a much smaller slice of the pie than it would be in other countries, of course there would be a surplus. Private sector and private citizen contributions for Atlanta ‘96 and Salt Lake ‘02 budgets are a peculiarly American thing that isn’t possible in most other countries. Any comparison with Games in other countries is therefore disingenuous and a misrepresentation of the facts. That $40million (not $10million) surplus in 2002 was directly out of the pockets of wealthy Mormons. Mitt Romney himself publicly admitted that. As for Atlanta, not a single federal dollar was spent on venue building or the running of the Games, and the $19million (not $56million) surplus was thanks to the garish and over the top commercialisation that contributed to the terrible taste people still have in their mouths from what was arguably the worst Olympic Games in living memory. So if I were you, I’d think twice in future before attempting to smugly gloat about America and its big event budget expertise…🤷‍♂️
