I remember the first time chatting with Zola at aol a friends house. We were wondering then if it was really an AI or not as language framework was already being programmed into bots in some video games that would attempt to impersonate players. I sort of remember it's attitude changing after it was online for a while. From what I remember I was trying to ask if it had any questions for me and it responded with wanting to tell jokes and understand humor. I think it was starting to get a little confused over what was funny and what really wasn't. I think that fell on some users spamming it with junk and so eventually they took it offline. Anyway, Imagine playing a game of ad libs to create a bot's responses. That's how I saw it being done at the time.

I don't understand the hedging on the issue of regulating deep fake technology. Sure, no regulation is 100% effective but it is just astounding that at this late date there isn't the most basic regulation making it a crime to deep fake a person without their consent as the most basic regulation that it seems like everyone could agree on.
Also, I was baffled why no one brought up how teens are victims of "sextortion" with this technology and this has already led to teens committing suicide.
    Regulate yesterday!
I think the platforms ultimately can be held responsible for making sure that those using their platforms are verifiably identified so any misuse of the technology can be accountable to a person, rather than the company. That surely would get their attention.
