    Blacks in the military? My first company commander in basic training was a Black lieutenant in 1978. My last company commander in 1986, was a female Black captain (she was very popular because she sorta acted like a Master Sergeant in terms of her commitment to protecting her troops).
    I would have followed her into combat if asked. Women were not in combat roles back then, but Captain Jones was worthy to lead her soldiers in combat.

    • @TheTerryscotttaylor
      @TheTerryscotttaylor 10 часов назад +3

      I think the difference is in the specific role. Flying a plane (piloting a weapons system) makes sense, provided you don't blunt the edges of the training (SERE) or drop the physical standards. If she goes down behind enemy lines, she needs to have the best chance possible to get herself out (very possibly injured).
      The issue most people have is when you have a male and a female standard. Meaning that a male could perform better than a female, yet he fails and she's good enough. This isn't fair to him. If the ACTUAL requirement isn't that high the standard shouldn't be that high. If the standard SHOULD be that high, you're setting someone up for failure by allowing anyone in that can't meet the standards. The standards aren't exclusionary to be mean, they're that way to give the best chance to come out alive.

    • @SpringIsBACK

      Certain programs have no budget. Look at Ohio Class submarines. The US has 18 of them. the first 4 have been converted from Ballistic Nuclear weapon boats (SSBN's) into Guided Missile (Tomahawk cruise missiles - SSGN's) boats. The other 14 submarines are what house 55% of our nuclear weapons and are the best deterrent to any other nuclear armed nation from attacking the US first, because they know they will be completely removed from the planet by just one of these boats.

      The problem is when you have one set of tests/training for females and a different set for males. It means you're either willing to send females into war physically ill-prepared, or that the standards don't REALLY matter and you just use them to weed out some males (since a male can perform better and be kicked out versus a female in the same unit)

That does have physical requirements, especially if you're a ground pounder. Same reason that you don't have overweight people given different standards.

    The US military has struggled for years to meet its recruitment targets. There are many contributing factors, but at least for new junior enlisted, the larger societal trend of declining fitness and increasing obesity has been cited as a national security issue.
    If bros wanna pull women out of the military to varying degrees, that will put even more pressure on our already inadequate recruitment figures.
