Didn't work for me for some reason, everything got placed correctly but no dice. However...... I did get it working in a much easier way than this, not sure if it's something I did earlier or its a universal fix or not. From main menu I went to "Load core"...... Selected "N64 mupen64plus-next"......Went into "Information"...... Went into "Core information"..... Went into "Restore backup"...... Selected the only option that was showing Loaded up a game and it worked instantly. Don't remember doing any sort of core backup, so can only assume it's the backup of the core installed with a fresh install of retroarch, before the core updates were done. If that's the case then it's a much easier and quicker fix than downloading and replacing config files. Maybe you could test it out Archades?
Thanks buddy. Got me back running in no time. FYI , I had to create that mupen folder in my config folder manually. Not sure why it didn't get populated in there.

I use Dev Mode, my config folder was left panel, file explorer, LocalAppData/Retroarch/LocalState/Config/Mupen64Plus-Next/ I deleted the Mupen64Plus-Next.opt file, then chose upload and added yours. And it works again! Really can't believe Retroarch doesn't fix this, crazy.

In the past I built my own arcade using a Hypersin setup. What I mean to say is that I have many years of experience with emulation. Actually since Dreamcast times. But I can't get any further with this matter, your video is actually child's play. But still it just doesn't work for me. I keep getting the message "content could not be loaded". Is there another way I could try?

This doesn’t work for me. Neither cores will load. It was working perfectly fine when I had the exact same set up in retail mode. But then they shut it down, and I switched over to dev mode and all of the sudden N64 won’t load, even with this config file. I saw some others having the same problem on Reddit. I wonder if there’s something else I need to delete since I came from retail mode? Is it worth uninstalling and reinstalling just because of N64?

I had to uninstall and reinstall. Making sure that I delete the mupen config folder completely. Then I ran it, updated assets, databases, controller profile. And had it working. I backed up the cores and 9:26 Put the core lock on in the settings so this doesn’t happen again. I have a mupen stand alone n64 emu for my Nvidia shield that play flawlessly. I wish they’d make a stand alone for Xbox

I don't know where I'd go to ensure the roms would work. But if there's nothing else I can do, it's fine. I have XBSX2 on my Series S so I can just use that.
Ya, reverting is preferred as games look like crap with Angrylion. I found a way that works if you had only updated cores once. It relies on the fact that Retroarch keeps a backup of the previous core. - In Retroarch, go to Main Menu - Load Core - Nintendo - Nintendo 64 (Mupen64Plus-Next) - Select the backup Mupen64Plus-Next core
Set up my xbox a few days ago and... then I found out why my N64 games were not working. I reinstalled Retroarc, locked the cores right away and it still didn't work. I reinstalled for a 3rd time, using a new installer, didn't update anything and tested N64 and it didn't work. Seems like the current build RetroArch-msvc2019-UWP_x64 comes with the Muprm64plus core version 1.0 and it doesn't work. I attempted to update the core but I can't find the core location to replace it. My cores are on the S drive on the xbox and my games are on the d drive.
Do you think they will ever do a standalone uwp N 64 emulator? I bought one of those retro fighters Bluetooth N64 controllers and it's so easy to configure on the Mupen 64 app on my Nvidia shield with x input.

For some reason my Retroarch in Dev Mode won't pick up my External Hard Drive even factory reset it and it still won't pick up i think i caught the Dev Mode brick is there anyway to fix this so it can pick up my External Hard Drive?
That folder never showed up in my thumbdrive so I created the same folder and added that file into it. Doesn't work still. Not sure what I'm doing wrong or if I just need to uninstall and reinstall at this point.

It is not likely going to come back. MS has been trying to get rid of it for a while now. You can try formatting the drive and doing the permissions over again to see if it picks it up.
@@ArchadesGames More concerned about price, can't fit any of those in the budget. Out of work cause of medical reasons, was given a Xbox one and was just trying to get the most out of what I had on hand. Thank you for the replies and the video content.
@@ArchadesGames ok thank you. Another issue ive hit now 😅 is that whenever i load into a game upon launch it jumps straight to the quick menu without me pressing anything. Then pressing ‘A’ returns me to the game but pressing ‘A’ again returns me to the quick menu.

@Archades Games that's unfortunate. I had a long save file going of DK64, and due to some weird quirks it would run in Parralleli but not Mupen, and also would only take savestates and not sram saves. End result being I have like 50+ hours on a savestate that only runs in that emulator and not Mupen and can't really be moved from one to the other...
The folder never appeared in my config folder. any fix for this?

Then your setup has other problems like bad games or improper security permissions

@@OGSERB I gave up. I installed XBSX2 and PPSSPP on it. Those actually work for me. And I installed Xenia to play the XBLA GoldenEye remaster.

If there isn't a folder there then you didn't set the directory to that location as shown in my initial setup guide.

Sounds like you mapped a hotkey to me. Go check the controls settings.

You can install anything into dev mode without problems
Im a time traveller from 2024. Microsoft are about to ban emulators in retail mode.
If you're too cheap to set up Dev mode, you don't deserve emulators on Xbox tbh
