Thanks for the run down on this. My 12v generator on my 68 works well but is noisy as all hell. Ill use this as a guide when i pull mine apart!

Its probably the bearings. The one closest to the fan is relatively easy to pull off, the one in front, you may have to cut off. I had a hard time with that one. But its doable.

Nice job Dan, you should put the nut on the end of the belt pulley with the tools that you carry in your tool roll. If the belt should break and your on the road, you'll be able to change it.

You want to add or remove shims to get a 2mm gap between the fan and the mounting plate. It should not rub.

Most D.C. generator systems fail because people don't know to polarize the system.

Sometimes when they set for long periods they won’t work for that very reason. Those magic pixies are still a mystery to me. I just follow the book. And somehow, everything turn out right.
