I was really hesitant about this effect after Buying Ping and watching/reading all the reviews on "Stay Cool" But this effect does really pack a punch and with how powerful this is and your review I might just end up buying this. Thank you again for your honest reviews!
Great review! Got mine the other day and am having fun practicing it. I do agree with your dislike of swear words though, I recognize a lot of people don't have any issues with it, but I'm not a fan and I'm in my 20's! So, you don't have to be "old" to not like it!

Hey David great review was gonna pull the trigger yesterday but said wait for magicorthodoxy tell give me the negatives. I plan on using this an opener, can I walk away or turnaround after the vanish without the gimmick exposed? I mean after the vanish is it concealed out of site, from all angles?

It's not bad, but I don't see it replacing my viper. You get a full Peek, not a partial peek but it's made of pleather and will work somewhat as a real wallet because storage is limited. That means it will hold a few plastic cards, like a debit card and your license and you can store a couple of bucks in folded up in half for "looks." $30 at Penguin
So based on what you've described, this prob wouldn't work for stage or parlor w a bright light on you? Justcurious because it does look like a great opener!

Biggest issue with this, is that the spectator has a video to rewind and watch over and over again. Meaning they can easily work out what happened. So the big wow will fade away really quickly.
One negative i can think of is that it doesn't really hold up to repeat performances. I know you're not supposed to perform the same trick twice but we all know spectators will watch you do this again from afar if you are doing it walk around. Once they do, they'll know at least how half of it was done.
Surely this effect doesn’t actually need the gimmick which is being sold here? The same exact effect can be done with a light up thumb tip whereby you seemingly go to grab your phone from an inside pocket, and then unknowingly to the spec, hand them back their own phone whilst you light up your thumb tip (all you can see from the specs point of view is a light and not an actual phone) and then proceed as in the effect and do the reveal.....
my thumb tip doesn't make a blinding flash style light like this - does yours? Mine just looks like a glowing thumb. Also the spectator SEES a phone in the magician's hands, he doesn't just see you holding extended thumb
I'm always weary of magic trailers. Because of you I'll be purchasing this trick. You should get paid by these companies. You're a great reviewer. Like if you give the ok on the product I know it's legit. Keep up the great work.

well I also mentioned the gimmick is big, and that there is palming and ditching involved, - some people (depending on ability) might count those as negatives - it's not for everyone

Thanks for the review Sir. I agree you could go with the other classic vanish gimmick and I may try my raven but this is super clean and easy ditching like coin work. Tobias simply knows how to make a magical moment and the method here is just plain smart. Because it’s not a gecko the get ready is way better. The eating of the phone is almost angle proof and I think that is a huge plus. Most of all I appreciate that Tobias goes beyond app magic for using the ubiquitous cell phone. And listen I am a huge Pigcake fan but this trailer should have been bleeped. Swearing is something you enter into as an agreement and I like to think we and everyone has a choice rather than just being inundated with cheesy swearing reactions.
Love the review! BTW Kids have never heard anyone swear, their parents certainly have never used swear words. You sounded really old when you complained about not bleeping out the swear words.LMAO! You are still the man!
It comes down to standards. Some just hold high ones then others. He's just being respectful/thoughtful of the parents wishes. Sure some parents swear around their kids and don't care what they listen to or what influences them. But some (most) do. No parents object to clean language. Some object to foul language. So why have it if you don't need it. That was the point. Just caring, a bit. That does some across strange to some.

People's reactions in this trailer seem rather weak for the hype this effect is getting. It seems like they are surprised for a quick second when they realize they are holding their phone then it quickly fades and it appears they feel silly that they didn't even realize they are holding their own phone. Almost as if they were duped. They almost feel embarrassed or like an idiot that they were fooled so easily. I still stand by this, I think it's a lame effect that has little to do with astonishment and wonder and more like "gotcha".
magicorthodoxy I think the phone vanish and other applications are really great! I think the concept of making them think they have your phone and that you vanish theirs and the transposition will only be a temporary mystery. They will come to the conclusion that they’ve been holding it all along. It’s a quick moment of surprise and that’s all. To me, it’s a novelty effect that will die off in another 6 months.
I dont think itll be temporary in their minds. They're filming with their own phone and can go back to re watch it. I understand you're hesitancy about worrying about making your spectators feel stupid though, I'm still feeling that way myself.

When they watch the playback on their phone, they know that all of the footage is being shot from their phone. It’s not like there’s a visual magic moment of when the phones “transposed”. It’s a novelty effect. A great concept in theory. I think in practice it’s not as strong as Ellusionist tends to hype shit up to be. I do however, really like the phone vanish gimmick. That has lots of potential. To me, that alone as an effect is way stronger.
TO ALL WHO PLAN ON BUYING THIS - DONT. They are sending a differently working gimmick (cheaper) than is portraid in the video trailer. You will not be able to perform it as smoothly as it is portrayed, even though the explanation video says so. They are trying to dress it as "improvement" but it is just a cheaper version of what it is shown in the trailer. Very disapointed in Ellusionist. Trying to get my money back coz its really unworkable
Clothing restrictions if you want to do the whole routine. You can vanish "your phone" in short sleeves, but you will need a button up shirt or jacket to perform the full routine, he doesent teach any way to do it without a jacket.

I thought it worked with a classic elastic vanisher with a dinner jacket
