Still valid information in this video for 2022. Over the years I collected a Tascam DR-40, and then a nice Tascam DR-70D because I was almost exclusively recording live music where you're hooking up to the bands' gear which is typically 1/4" and XLR. Then things took a turn of course and I'm in need of audio for my growing video activities. Neither of those Tascams is friendly to the 1/8" plug-in-power mics that smother the low to mid level videographer scene. This Comica is going to be a necessity. I could buy Rode VXLR-Pro adapters but look at the price of those. I would need two at least and they only do one function. The AX3 is more versatile. I'm just not thrilled about the proportions of the case. I'll end up hanging it off the tripod, not under the cameras.
Side note about those Sennheiser microphones. I have the e945. It's a mic to seriously look at; especially complementary to female vocalists in live settings but also good for male voices. I let performers try mine and within the month 7 of them changed over from their SM58s.

Thanks for the nice comment! I seldom have need to use mics like the two Sennheisers that I have. I got those two for free, because I worked for a magazine at the time and they came in as review models. I have a nice Azden shotgun and a couple of wireless systems for my video work.
I have not used the Comica AX3 much since I reviewed it, but I will be ramping up my video work in the future and will probably start using it more in a few months. I definitely like it, though.

Good review, Bob! Practical advice, simply explained. One thing I wondered was whether there was any left - right panning available on each channel. It looks as if there isn't, but I suppose for a simple two channel setup, stereo is probably not so important.

Thanks, Andrew. No, there is no panning. But you can select "Mono" or "Stereo," and the effect of selecting "Mono" is to put the audio on both channels. Otherwise, left is left and right is right.

Hello master. If I'm not wrong, you say the XLR input are balanced. I'm right?
