I bought all four of their Solo Albums on LP. And Ace was the only one who had a hit song that charted! With New York Groove! I liked his songs Rocket Ride and Shock Me. I always like him and Peter the best. I was surprised how bad the others Solo albums were. Not one decent song. Terrible!
Ace got pushed out because of his drinking and Criss got fired, too.
But Ace got some revenge because his album charted and the others fell flat. He was being treated like he was a second rate member when in fact he was the major reason I liked KISS and bought their Albums and Posters. Ace was my idol as a teenager. I just thought he was the coolest. And he was funny, too! And I always like Peters Cat Makeup and playing and his personality.
I like that they all sang too! They were four distinct personalities and personas. And just like the Beatles, people had their favorites. In the Beatles, I liked George the most. I like them all actually but George was my favorite and my kind of person. Kind of kept to himself and he looked cool.
Same with Ace! He looked cool and had good songs and I liked his style of singing, too!
I was in the KISS Army Fan club, too.

I understand the appeal for Ace, because he is really charming and funny. And while I think Ace is very talented, he lacks the discipline and humility which led Paul and Gene to success. For example, he is missing from this interview because he didn't catch his airplane in time... And he had a lot of shenanigans like that. I wasn't a fan of KISS back then, but such a behavior would have turned me away from them forever if I was. I don't think Ace's career should be about getting revenge, it should be about taking responsibility for himself and his life choices. Neither Paul nor Gene ever debated his talents. His talent was never in question, his attitude was.

@@rekettyes8453 You make some valid points.
Well, Ace is an Alcoholic and that’s why he was missing a lot of times. This was unacceptable to Gene and Paul who saw Ace was sabotaging KISS and was unreliable. Criss had a similar problem. So Gene and Paul fired them and kept going.
At the end same time Gene and Paul badmouthed Ace for screwing up but he was in an Alcohol fueled daze most of the time and didn’t care. He crashed his sports car a couple of times and is lucky he didn’t get killed or injured.
It’s a minor miracle that Ace made it through all that alive. Paul also said that the Ace won the lottery by being in KISS and he couldn’t understand how anyone could jeopardize their Career. But he didn’t understand the lure of drugs and how an addict thinks. They don’t care about anything except getting high and getting drugs and drinking.
Now Ace has recovered after 20 lost years and I think Peter is clean too but it cost them both. They’re still rich and live well but Gene and Paul are a-lot richer. It’s all water under the bridge now.
I’m mainly an Ace and Peter fan so I got a kick out of it when Ace was rubbing it in Gene’s face that only his album had a hit song. I bought all four LPs being a loyal KISS fan and I was really disappointed in the other three’s albums. They are terrible! Aces was the only one that was decent and I like New York Groove. I always like his songs with KISS too! I also like Peters song Beth and his vocals on Black Diamond. Hard Luck Woman is still a good song too but it sounds like a Rod Stewart song.
So I really liked them both.
I would ask the other three did they listen to their Solo albums at all? Did they think those were good songs?Because I wouldn’t have released those albums. They were subpar! Except for Aces!
I was especially surprised that Peter didn’t have any good rockers on his album and that Paul didn’t have any good songs on his album. Gene’s was horrid.
I’m going to go listen to them again but I doubt it will be any different. The only thing good about the 4 Solo albums are the cover portraits! And Aces songs.
So Gene and Paul were putting Ace down and he one ups them both! I like that! They can’t talk smack about him like they were.
That’s how I see it. Thanks for your perspective.

@@dynjarren8355 I totally understand where you are coming from. I do think however that addiction is hell, it makes life hell not only for you but for everyone around you, and the only person who can overcome it is the addict himself or herself. I agree that it is a soulcrushing fight, but no one else can save your life but you, and I understand Paul and Gene as well for taking the steps they thought necessary. I agree that it is not really fair to badmouth ex-band members, although Ace and Peter don't have any restraints whatsoever in aciding the current band either (which is I think is especially unfair towards Eric and Tommy - they are great and humble musicians who do their jobs and bring great soul into KISS). Seeing the public dirt throwing is really saddening, especially that the original lineup still has fond feelings for each other, Gene for example helped a lot in making Ace's latest solo album. (I don't like Ace's music that much, but I admit that he has a very unique style.) So that's just my opinion, I'm not a huge fan of Ace, but I have big respect for him, because he creates great music and he did get out of the deepest pits of addiction. I get it why you are such a big fan. Thank you for sharing your thoughts in such a respectful manner!

@@rekettyes8453 Hey, we can have a civil discussion. I know people have forgotten about that idea now. But not me. I respect your opinion and views. And you’re entitled to them.
Yes, Ace did actually disappoint me because I idolized him and he basically disappeared for a long time in his Alcoholic and drug phase that lasted twenty years. I’m glad he didn’t die. That would have upset me but I forgot about him during that time. I must admit. Those were my teenage years and I moved on from KISS and Ace and listened to other bands.
I am a big Nirvana fan and got into their music and now it’s already 25 years since Cobains sudden death. It devastated me at the time. It’s still a tragedy. He was hopelessly addicted to Heroin and couldn’t stop. He left Rehab instead.
So I can see that it’s hard for people to get clean but it can be done. Ace and Peter are both clean now. That’s good because drugs kill, especially after 35. You don’t see any old Junkies. They all die before they get to 50 even.
So I get that badmouthing people isn’t a good thing to do. But I think Ace is a bit bitter about how he was dismissed. So was Peter although he says he’s over it.
At a certain point bygones are bygones and a person has to forgive and move on. Also acknowledge the reality that they made mistakes, too.
Forgive yes, forget no! I never forget if I’m wronged. Although I can forgive.
Generally, I’ve had Frenemies in my life and I got rid of them. I don’t need people putting me down and pulling me down. I need people to lift me up!
So anyway, in an interview Ace said that Gene stated that he had no friends. Ace told him that he was his friend.
So Ace forgave him and they hang out and have dinner together. Ace doesn’t drink and neither does Gene. So it worked out.
I thought that was big of Ace to extend his friendship to Gene like that! Ace is a good guy! He doesn’t hold grudges. At some point you have to move on with your life and either makeup or dismiss another person.
      Life goes on!
I always say if you want a real friend, get a dog 🐕. They are loyal and get excited to see you every day. And all you have to do is take them for a walk every day and feed them, of course.
I just saw a funny RUclips video! I love RUclips! Where a big dog 🐕 jumped into a Pool to save this young woman. She was swimming and the Dog mistakenly thought she was drowning. She wasn’t.
So the Dog 🐕 jumped into the Pool and started pulling her by her Pigtail to drag her to the shallow water and safety. She was laughing the whole time while the Dog was paddling and dragging her hair in his mouth. It was hilarious! Her friend filmed the whole thing!
So my point is a Dog 🐕 will even try to save your life even if it is misguided. But it sure was funny to see this Dog 🐕 in action!
Dogs 🐕 have actually saved many peoples lives by getting them help when they were in trouble or protecting them from attackers. I like Dogs! 🐕 They have good hearts!
      Anyway,
      Good talking to you!
      👏🏻🎸😎

@@rekettyes8453 Oh, I may have forgotten to mention that I saw KISS live during the 96 Reunion finally. It was like a time warp! The show brought back my teenage years and when KISS got big in 76 and 77. I used to put their posters on my wall and bought all their albums and I was even in the KISS Army Fan Club!
It was emotional to finally see them all live! The Original Four! My Fab Four! I know it sounds crazy but they were like that to me. The Beatles were 10 years earlier and before my time so I missed them. I never saw the Beatles on TV but I’d see KISS at times. I was still too young to see their live show at the time. But I finally got to twenty years later and it was great!
After looking at their posters all my teenage dreams came true. KISS on stage live in front of me! I got to see Ace play lead guitar 🎸 live finally and I watched them all intently. It was a Party and a very special night. I wish someone had filmed it but there’s only some audio. Gene got lifted up to the Rafters and sang a song from a platform up there. I must admit he impressed because he’s got balls to go up there. I wouldn’t do it. He’s fearless!
Anyway, they all knew their roles like a well oiled machine! I could tell they had done their show a hundred times before and it was automatic to them.
Great Concert I will never forget!
One thing checked off my bucket list!
      👏🏻🎸😎
