- In 2002, VH1 wanted to rebrand their network with a younger demographic. To do so, they decided to launch a new talk show and hired an unknown standup comedian named Zach Galifianakis. Late World with Zach premiered in the Spring of 2002, but the ratings were so bad it was almost immediately in danger of cancellation. With the show failing and nothing to lose, Late World with Zach became bizzare, surreal, and hilarious. This is the story of a talk show doomed to fail, but a host determined to prove his point

I stayed up for this show. First time I saw The Shins.
One of the only episodes that is lost media
@@PopCultureHyperfixationsI actually have that episode recorded on VHS.
Great video. You are going to go far with quality editing like this.
I appreciate that!
great video, definitely something that was a little ahead of it's time. It also makes between two ferns make so much more sense
When i found him talking about his ideas for a talk show way back in the 2000s and realizing he was describing what Between Two Ferns would become I got so excited
@@PopCultureHyperfixations I do believe I felt at least a fraction of that excitement from your video as well, appreciate you passing it along
@@PEACEOUTPAT Thats really nice to hear, thank you
I still have an old VHS tape labeled "Zach's last week" that I've kept since high school
Hell Yeah Man
Solid vid enjoyed this breakdown man
Glad you enjoyed it
Good video man, keep it up
Appreciate it
I watched this as a kid and loved it.. I was a Zach fan long before he became hugely famous
I definitely remember watching it too, I felt insane for a long time that nobody remembered it
This was really interesting! I never knew Zach had a talk show way back when. I thought it was just alt standup straight to The Hangover for the most part. There's so many odd little artifacts in the early aughts... Thanks for the retrospective, can't wait to see what else you have in store ✌️
Thank you for the very kind words
I used to love this show when it aired and I was apparently in the minority. I was such a fan of Zach’s, I went to see the Hangover because I thought he was the lead 😂
We used to quote his Comedy Central Special incessantly when we were teenagers. It was crazy watching him blow up
I LOVED this show.
Definition of a cult classic for sure
Great video
Thanks!
I was in the audience of this show, gavin rossdale from Bush was the guest.
I didn't find a way to work it in, but that interview was maybe the most awkward one out of all of them
You know what got me into watching VH1 back in elementary and middle school was the I Love The series not much else got me interested
New subscriber right here
Loved the video …hating only myself for not lobbying harder in the early 2000s for Zach’s show and VH1 as a whole. Today will be bumpy, but balanced with the humor of Zach galifinakis in my heart I trudge fwd. new sub 13:03
Im glad you liked it, thanks for subscribing I really appreciate it
@@PopCultureHyperfixations I am trying to grow my own channel and I will tell you this the algorithm is a fickle beach… don’t forget your sunscreen😎 best wishes looking forward to seeing more
Just by the lack of replies shows how much this show wasn’t seen.
I had zero idea of who he was until Hangover and Due Date
I watched and recorded every episode on VHS back in the day. I was a fan of Zach because of his appearances on Conan beforehand.
I was such a huge fan of the Comedy Central Presents special and felt like such a cool kid knowing who he was before other people for sure too
0:50 yep😂
Back when I was younger I thought Zach in Out Cold was actually Ryan Dunn from Jackass fame just from his style of humor and looks in the movie
I can totally see that haha
1:11 short attention span theater, I just learned about that in another video
I’ve only seen clips of this years ago and DEFINITELY never saw it during its run
A lot of it is in full on RUclips. The episode where he does it from is imo the best one of the episodes that are in full. The empty audience episode is also great but the full episode isnt available
His hilarious bits with Tim & Eric
So good
Out Cold was great. Underrated.
I loved it as a kid, and I want to rewatch it but Im scared it wont hold up
@@PopCultureHyperfixations oh it won’t. BUT every movie is a time capsule. That in itself can be enough. The outtakes are almost better than the movie
I remember being fascinated by the directors commentary where they had their grandma do it with them
Best drug test joke I'd ever seen
Wasn't it Will Ferrell that "discovered" him and got him into big comedy movie projects?
You can see some Between Two Ferns roots here
Commented too soon🤣 should’ve finished the video
2 months? 😮 That's all the time they gave it?
Its crazy how quickly they pulled the plug
Mtv gave Tom Green a talk show, so it checks out
That show is a whole other can of worms I wanna open one day, if only to talk about the guy from Jackyl with a chainsaw
Sneaky Jesus needs to be resurrected...
Alltimer
Why do they look like 3 different stages of Ellen Degeneres in the thumbnail?
Oh my god
listening to dickie sticks talk about anything for any amount of time is enough to swallow the 50 xans in the drawer.
Stickie Dicks is probs a better nom de plume for that creeper, if I'm honest...
4:50 no, that just means he was more comfortable than if he wasn't high. Smoke weed, get sht done x
dork
Drugs, Car Crash, Fat hahahahahahaha exactly! That show sucked the first time round
Wait... There was an american Buzzcocks???? Holy crap I bet it fkn sucked more than the newest British seasons (absolute dog shite btw).
