At 74 this the first time I have ever heard of Berry Goldwater’s concerns and generosity towards others and his love for this country. As a teenager in 1964 I was naïve and uninformed like most kids then and now. I heard from TV and adults that Goldwater would only get us in a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. When children don't trust politicians, there is something wrong with them and they are suspect. They radiate something intoxicating that they try to hide, but children have an instinct to perceive it anyway. And vice versa. If they trust public figures, there seems to be something right about them. Children cannot be fooled easily by their adults, until they are grown up and have been sufficiently brainwashed as well....

I was born in 1953. I had no idea that Reagan played such a prominent part in American national politics in the early 60's.
Yes I was also born in 53 and I remember how important it was to get to the polls November 1980 as I was moving out of state. The good ol days. I'm just grief stricken at where our country is going and I served 10 years in the military as well. 🙏🙏

This is that rare, timeless speech that I honestly think even eclipses FDR's "Fear Itself" speech and that one was a good one too. This one; however, invokes that same optimistic spirit and in turn galvanizes any and all who support the cause of individual freedom.

Most kids my age were in the Star wars I was into US politics I've always loved and respected the American Constitution !! I think Reagan would be disappointed by the government bailouts and the stimulus checks. He cautioned against taxing and the unwelcomed presence of the government seems to have been forgotten. At 74 this the first time I have ever heard of Berry Goldwater’s concerns and generosity towards others and his love for this country. As a teenager in 1964 I was naïve and uninformed like most kids then and now. I heard from TV and adults that Goldwater would only get us in a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. So it is when you only get one side of the story. Just like today when Russia is painted as the bad guy and the US government run Ukraine is the good guy when with a little more information the truth is the opposite.

I wasn't born yet, when this speech took place. I do remember Reagan's presidency. Who would have thought that we are STILL facing these same issues between Democrats and Republicans? I know there are lots of Democrats that are leaving the party to join Independents or Republicans, but I would love to know how many Republicans/Independents have switched to the Democrats? At the end of the day, this country was founded on the idea that every man is king of his castle, that the individual matters more than the collective.

Shocking that in nearly 60 years, we face the same problems. He did his best as President to fix this. People complain about his deficit spending, and not getting the budget in balance. Keep in mind he had a hard core Democrat led Congress and the House controls the budget. He proposed 7 budgets with reductions in spending and of course none of those budgets were adopted. He was able to get our military back, tax cuts and deregulation through Congress and of course defeated the Soviet Union. He was a profit, principled, patriotic lover of freedom and of America. One of my favourite US presidents and definitely my favourite Republican, the one I trusted the most even when I was still too young to really understand what all the things he said and did meant, and yet. When children don't trust politicians, there is something wrong with them and they are suspect. They radiate something intoxicating that they try to hide, but children have an instinct to perceive it anyway. And vice versa. If they trust public figures, there seems to be something right about them. Children cannot be fooled easily by their adults, until they are grown up and have been sufficiently brainwashed as well....
