    I just set up an X01 derailleur using with a XTR cassette and since I didn't have the old B-gap adjustment tool but had spares of the new one I just took a pair of pliers and removed the inner part where it sits around the largest cog. That way there is nothing to interfere with the chain/45T cog. But I guess not everyone wants to ruin their brand new stuff.

    Changed my shimano xt 11 speed to sram gx derailleur and changed chain to sram xx1 as there was no x01 available anywhere in stock.
    Its a dream! Super quiet when pedalling and shifting is smoother then with xt, just when changing gear when going up the hill it clanks.

    Using the phone app to micro-adjust is great, as it assigns a numerical value.
    I have the AXS Gx upgrade with a 175 crank and Absolute Black 30t boost for SRAM. I just ordered some new components. I'm 70 and live up at 7000', so I've decided to put on a 165mm crankset to try easing joint stress. I also just ordered what I need to convert to AXS with Shimano. So, Microspline driver, XT 10-51 cassette, XT HG+ chain, and, I decided that, since Absolute Black makes an oval that is designed to be mounted on a SRAM crank but for use with a Shimano HG+ chain, I got that as well. I like the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear spacing on Shimano more than SRAM, so I'm really looking forward to trying this out! The one question I had was on setting B-gap, which you answered.
    I'm thinking that the chain lengths are the same moving between SRAM and Shimano, though, correct?

      @@LoveMTB Hey there what's up. So just wanted to share my first impressions with you on the Sramano setup(XO1 AXS(used already a little banged up a few scratches), SLX cassette/Xtr chain(1000miles on both), Absolute black 32 oval, 140mm rear travel Yt jeffsy)...I don't want to judge to fast as I gor 2 rides(4h, 1500m climbing, bike park, some blue trails in the woods). So the Pros apart from the obvious are that I don't need to think about how much I need to press the shifter(controller) anymore especially when the hands body is tired. The next pro is the option to shift up/down(app settings) with your pointing finger as on shimano xt shifters(can't live without that option)...interestingly when AXS first reviews came out I was a bit disappointed as none of the reviewers didn't mention this option is available on the new wireless system, luckily it is. The third is ofcourse the zzzt zzzt 😜. Ok for the Cons, the speed, don't take me wrong it's fast enough, but my first after 1 season with an XT setup is that in a situation when coming fast into a corner with brakes and to a step climb, the analog setup was a tick of a second faster there(maybe I just need to get my Sramano shifting technique better) or set my multiple shift from 2 to 3 gear at once. The second Con would be the Sram AXS clutch strength, compared to an Shimano XT it is weak, the chain is all over the place where with the XT was quiet. The third Con would be that the shifter is to sensitive in rough trail situations(the travel of the buttons is a little bit to short I think). Installation, setup(indexing, b gap, limits) all went perfectly and very easy. So do need more riding time to get used to it better. The shifting is good, but I do have one issue, the chain is doing loud clunks when going down the cassette and sometimes has trouble to go up right away, that is probably a little because of the wear on the cassette, but also probably, I think the chain length. On the pure Shimano setup I was running a 34T oval(chain length according to the Shimano 12 speed instructions(+ 5 or 6 half-links), went to a 32T oval now so shortened the chain for 2 half-links. It's 57 full links long now on a 440mm chainstay. I have a feeling that it's still 2 half-links to long. How did you size the chain, Sram way or Shimano way? Probably it should be done the Sram way as it's a Sram derailleur, right? How is your setup working out for you?

    My XTRs shifting keeps detuning during big and long descends when I do minimal shifting. I’ve struggled with this for a long time on my long travel bike (160) and do not have this issue on my hard tail or short travel bike. It seems I am experiencing detuning from cable stretch and I can’t seem to fix it. I will be upgrading to wireless shortly to try and eliminate this problem.

In fact, I think this setup shifts better than any SRAM drivetrain (I’ve owned GX and X01 group sets) and it shifts just as good as the mechanical XTR drivetrain. Do you find that 12 speed chains wear out faster than 11 speed chains, for any brands?

  • @omeletn
    @omeletn 3 года назад +1

    Yes this is the way!! I've been running an AXS derailleur on my XTR drivetrains on two separate bikes for the past year without any issues! It simply works everytime with a perfect shift. The biggest point to getting flawless operation you hit very well. Proper B-gap adjustment set at sag is key!! I use a micrometer to get the 51t cog exactly at 46mm from the center of the top jockey wheel bolt while at sag. That combined with a properly measured chain using Shimano's 12 speed chain guide, and the shifting is perfect everytime especially under load!!

    • @omeletn
      @omeletn 3 года назад

      @@LoveMTB Yeah I've stuck to Shimano's new method for their 12 speed chains. I've seen a lot of guys have shifting issues while they try to chase the perfect B-gap setting which in the end always came down to an improper chain length because they used an older chain sizing method.

I didn't experience any degradation in performance when switching to AXS. The perfect shift everytime was noticeable from the beginning though! From my experience it shifts just as good as full XTR did, only now I don't have to worry about the need to goose the lever slightly to shift up the cassette at times like I was used to with traditional derailleurs.

The battery lasts longer than expected. It's robust, I've smacked them a few times which is concerning everytime because they are so expensive, but no issues yet!
      Areas to improve: Before GX AXS I'd say price (I own XX1 and XO1) but with GX out now with a small weight penalty, AXS is getting cheaper. I wish the controller was a little smaller, I know it's petty but it is a little chunky for my liking. I wish the controllers were more customizable, I have both the AXS derailleur and Reverb AXS and I wish I could program the buttons to do anything I want such as being able to program a single click, double click, or long press on either controller for whatever I desire.

    Thanks very much for your videos and all the compatibility tests! I am loving the Shramano Eagle GX setup, but I still cannot find a reliable information about "per cog" micro adjustments in the AXS app. Is it possible at all ? Or was this "removed" by a firmware to motivate people to spend more money on the transmission setup? Thanks for answer!

      It is 0.2mm with every click adjust from the shifter or the app. Nothings removed if anything carried forward to the Transmissikn

    Thanks. I just did this and it shifts amazing except for the biggest COG. I could not trouble shoot it and neither could my LBS. Not a bent hangar. Only thing i can think of is I have a oneup switch oval ring. Going to try a shimano direct ring. Any suggestions?

      Do you have the 55 or 56.5mm chain line cranks as opposed to the 52mm ones? That might cause you to have the poor shift at the most extreme angle in that granny gear, since the chain line is biased towards the smaller cogs.

    Hi mate. Great vid. Question about the b-gap adjustment. Do you adjust with the shock deflated or with air still in it? I’m confused and about to attempt the fit and don’t want to mess it up! Thanks!!

    I have a question without mixing and matching SRAM and Shimano, I just currently got the SRAM GX AXS upgrade kit, it was wondering with the 12speed XT Shimano cassette and the SRAM chain and the SRAM front chain ring would that be a problem? Or should I use the Shimano chain with the Shimano rear cassette?

    Good informative video. How difficult (spring tension) are the shifter buttons to hit? Thinking about doing this upgrade. I find your video's some of the best when looking at parts for future upgrade.

    Been using this setup with slx cassette chain and oval chainring and was working fine for the past month but now it seems to want to jump gears at the top and bottom of the range even after micro adjustment in the middle of the cassette. If I adjust for the small cogs, big cogs start to jump around and vice versa.

    • @thesupernad

      This means you most likely need to align your derailleur hanger. When its gets bent or twisted it affects the angle of the upper cog in relation to your front chainring.

    Love your AXS videos, they've been extremely helpful for me as I'm about to take the plunge and install an AXS kit next week. Something I've been wondering about that maybe you can answer though, how about using a Shimano HG+ compatible chainring with a SRAM narrow wide chain, will there be any drawbacks to it?

    I would be totally ready to drop heavy wires for 5v, gnd and signal with central lion cell placed somewhere in the frame. No need for wireless in the mainstream. This could also apply to dropper and lockouts. would result in super small shifters and buttons. Say if SHimano would bite SLX and do it there

      @@LoveMTB It is pretty aggressive tbh. The chainline is 52mm and the chainstay length is 435 mm. It never did it with the the Shimano SLX M7100 Deraileur.
