Hi Bre! You are the entire reason I have a garden! I came across your videos last October and ended up becoming a gardener! I harvested 120lbs of tomatoes last summer! I was so happy to hear your seed haul this year! I just received my seeds and will be trying to grow tango celery AND the carval carrots you mentioned! I’m also trying the Inca jewel tomatoes off of your recommendation from last year! Happy gardening and thank you for bringing gardening into my life and so many others!
Make sure you grow two Tomitillo plants. They need to cross pollinate with another plant. I made that mistake this year when I gave my sister one plant.
@@itsbreellis you're so welcome! Other than that though, they're very easy to grow and are delicious! There's a great roasted salsa Verde recipe in one of the ball canning books you should check out too.
@@itsbreellis I grow mine in tomato cages as I get a lot of wind and they grow kind of spindly and tall. Also if you have issues with potato beetles they love to lay their eggs on tomatillos in early summer and will decimate a plant in just a few days.
I grew Cherokee Trail of Tears black beans last year and I really liked them. They are an heirloom pole dry bean from Tennessee. Pretty purple pods and vigorous plants even in drought conditions.
I bought poppy seeds because of the beautiful flowers you showed in your garden. I didn’t think about creating a color palette for flowers in the garden I just bought everything I liked (something to think about next time ) don’t give up on your onions I’ve watched your onion videos several times it’s so detailed and informative. I’m currently overwintering several varieties from botanical interest.
Hello Bre, when will you give us a hair care routine 😢 you hair is like Raspunzel's it is sooo pretty and as much as I'm sure your home grown diet is a huge help for them to look so healthy, if there are any tricks or DIY you can share with us, it would be great!
I do have a older video from a few years back that hasn't changed much, but I did plan to do one here over the winter months that was more updated!! - here's the old video if you want to check it out - ruclips.net/video/fCUHZBuSeFg/видео.html
I loved my tango celery, it lasted all summer through the heat and did super well! It got VERY thirsty near the end though, had to water it 2-3x a day or she’d get super droopy 😂 I adore your flower choices this year!! Can’t wait to see what it looks like when they’re all in bloom ☺️
Thanks for sharing the seed haul with us! It always makes me want to go buy more seeds! This was a great video for motivating me! I grew MIGardener's Cherokee Trail of Tears Pole Bean(black bean) last garden season-2024. I had not previously grown any black beans, but my sister in law does food scaping and she recommended trying black beans. I planted them to grow up my corn and they did really well. They also dried quickly and yielded regular sized beans. I also did Hudson Valley Seeds -Black Turtle Bean(bush variety). I planted it in a 1ft x 3.5ft space and it yielded way more than expected -almost a whole pound of beans. They were a lot smaller black bean though. I am in zone 8a. I have grown the purple tomatillos from Botanical Interests and my germination rate was off the charts and I was able to make a lot of green salsa with it. It didn't turn super purple, but had specs of purple which was really cool. Wear gloves when you harvest as they're crazy sticky, or maybe just be okay with stickiness. Ha ha.
Hi Bre! I live in a colder climate so maybe it's not so important to your climate but I find that Tomatillo seed germinate slower than Tomato seeds. So I recommend starting them at the same time as your peppers.
Nice seed haul. My tomatillos got huge! I had to use garden stretchy tape to tie mine to the fence. I had to wrap the tape around the front of the bush & tug a little, then tape. They were falling over.
I’m excited also for spring to get her. My garlic is massive, I have 600 bulbs of Hardneck coming up in spring. Nice choices and botanical interest and migardener are great companies. Baker creek and hoss are super also. Good luck😃
My tomatillos have been rather prolific the last 2 years, so much so I wont be growing them this year. But one thing I have learned is that they like to spread wide and they can get tall if you make them grow up a cage. So make sure you give them adequate space! I do absolutely love growing them though!
Yeah they spread like crazy! We had tons of tomatillo volunteers in our garden from several years prior. They are fun but definitely recommend giving them a specific spot or container
If you have never tried an indeterminate tomato on an arched trellis you should!! I’ve always been overwhelmed by the maintenance on a typical upright growing method but last year I did 3 on an arches trellis and it was a complete game changer!!!!
I ordered some of the same flower seeds as you! I am super excited about the Ballerina Zinnias. I grew Zinderella Peach from Johnny’s last year and loved the daintiness of the blooms. Excited to see what Botanical Interest’s Zinderellas look like. I’m hoping there are some lavender tones in my seed packet. I also got the Apricotta Cosmos too. Happy growing!
Also, you’ll need a cage of some sort to contain them. I grow them every 2 years and make enough salsa verde to last 2 years. Us back yard gardeners only have so much space.
Hey Bre I purchased the Inca jewel & supremo tomato seeds after watching ur awesome harvest. Hope they do as well here in Houston. I wanted to mention u might want to try growing some eucalyptus for ur flower bouquets. Have u tried growing that yet? Love ur videos and always look forward to ur content. Happy holidays 🌲
Good morning Bre! I sure enjoy watching your videos. I really appreciate all of the tips you offer! Do you have a PO Box? I would love to share some of my favorite seed varieties with you. Hope you have a great day!
I grew some of the habaneros from B.I. this year and it turned out to be a scotch bonnet instead. Absolutely delicious but definitely wasn't what I thought I was planting 😂 My current favorite seed company is MIgardener. I got a few from B.I. again but MIgardener was my primary. Great seeds and service from a small company with a great relationship with its seed farmers
MI Gardener has several awesome pole been style dry beans! The Cherokee Tears is a great pole black bean variety!!! I need to watch the whole video before commenting haha!!!
Three years ago I brought the seeds of that pink orange snapdragon and love the flowers ever since. I bought another packet because I want more of them and the seeds I collected from my plants give white offspring
My favorite pole bean is Emerite. I have grown many and its the best by far. It does have black bean seeds but not sure they can be used for black beans. I love sunflowers and grew the Goldy Honey Bear from Botanical Interests and never got one more that 4 feet tall. Will try again this year.
thank you for the unboxing! your summer tomato processing really impressed me-this was my first year gardening and i didn't have a ton of production, so trying to fix some things i can, but going to grow the supremo for sure. maybe the inca jewels too?
The flowers will be gorgeous together! I have been growing the Queeny Lime series for years and love them. I'm also in Kansas, and found that it takes at least 3-4 weeks of cold stratification to start milkweed. Mine grew well but did not come back the following year.
cherokee trail of tears is an amazing pole black bean! super reliable and tasty. Also if you are growing tomatillos, you have to make the chipotle tomatillo salsa recipe from the ball book. absolute game changer! you can sub in some of your dried peppers in that recipe if you want.
loooove your channel and energy! If you dig determent Toms, I highly recommend TomatoFest's Dwarf Tomato series, although I am sure you already know about them. IF not, do check them out. I get huge, full sized toms on glorious determent plants. I put those in grow bags and alllll of my cherry toms (I have a small obsession going on here w/cherry toms LOL) in my garden. Now I have to order some of the seeds you mentioned here-thanks!
I find that milkweed in my garden attracts aphids, I've been using it as a trap crop the last couple years. It does also bring in butterflies and ladybugs but beware the possibility of aphids.
I live in Kansas also. I love to watch your videos and I’m going to order some of the same seeds you have had good luck with. My onion harvest was awesome until I lost them all in the curing phase. I will try again for 2025.
Bre when you grow tomatillos just know you need at least two plants for pollination reasons. I only planted two last year and one plant died so I didn’t have any fruit . This year I will be planting four plants just to make sure.
I'm in Las Vegas, NV. I planted Outredgous lettuce last year, and it held on until early July, well into triple digits of dry heat. I did shade it starting in May, but it was still hot. It might be worth a look.💚
Baker creek not only has the Chinese pink, but also now carry Chinese white. It did really well for me. Doesn’t hold up great in soups but amazing fresh eating.
With your milkweed, are you going to cold stratify? I made the mistake my first year of just planting them in spring so nothing came up. The next year, I tried winter sowing in order to stratify, but that also didn’t work because we have very dry winters and I struggled to keep them moist. SOooo, this year I put my milkweed seeds in the freezer around one month ago. I really hope the third time’s the charm!🤞 I’m looking forward to seeing how you setup your garden, with all those gorgeous flowers!
As others have said Always grow tomatillo plants in pairs for good pollination and be prepared to prune and/or trellis them because they get pretty crazy. I’m in zone 6a northwest Ohio and they are prolific here with each plant producing 100 tomatillos or more. That’s ok with me though because I love salsa verde. I also can plain tomatillo puree for enchiladas verdes and Chilaquiles Verdes.
Hi Bre, thank you so much for this video. I’m always excited to see what your seed haul is for the upcoming year and it is inspires me a great deal. This is going to be my first year for growing tomatillos as well so I need all the tips and tricks. One request I do have could you share how many plants you put into your garden? For example, I’m also going to grow the Hungarian Malgar peppers for the first time this year, based on your recommendation. How many plants do you grow? I’m looking at four but is that enough? Have you made smoked paprika? I’m very interested in learning how to do that because I love that flavor. Thank you so much for another wonderful video.
With the paprika, I tend to plant between 8-12. This has gotten me a years worth of powder but I use it daily and go through a ton of it! They produce pretty similar to any other pepper. I haven't smoked them but it would be super easy to do so!
I know you aren’t big on the slicer tomatoes but maybe try pineapple. It’s an indeterminate so you will need a trellis. I’m pretty excited to try scarlet emperor pole beans. They have red flowers and can be harvested as a snap bean or dried bean. I’m also growing a black bean called Cherokee black pole, which I got from MIgardener, also can be harvested as a snap or dried bean. And inspired by you - Hale’s giant cantaloupe.
Im growing tomatillos for the first time this next season as well. I hear you need two of them because they dont self pollinate. Not sure if thats right or not but Im going to put out two of them anyway. Cant wait for the new season! I just started most of my onions today. My new varieties for the new season will be, Ailsa Craig onions, Red Long Of Tropea Onions, Lacenato Kale, Carentan Leeks, Hollow Crown Parsnips, Emeraald Giant Bell Peppers, Rainbow mix Swiss Chard, Rio Grande Verd Tomatillos, and , Arkansas Traveler tomatoes. Gardening year 36 is going to be an exciting one. I hope!
I am excited to try some of what you are planting like the supremo and inka jewel roma types, also the cayenne with thicker walls. I have grown the apricotta and tomatillos. Just so you know, you need at least two tomatillos for pollination.
I grew green and purple tomatillos and were very prolific, however i was only able to harvest a couple handfuls because worms loved to lay their eggs inside the husks and when they hatched the worms loved the tomatillos so they weren't edible. I didn't spray them, but I'd love advice on how to care for them. We use green tomatillos alot in Mexican dishes....SW KS here! 👋👋
After years growing indeterminate paste tomato varieties, I’m planning to give determinate a try. Would you mind sharing why you do both the classic Roma and the Supremo, as opposed to one or the other? I’m a 6a gardener with a similar-sized garden space as yours. My goal is to put up a year’s worth of tomatoes. Thank you!
If you do order from Baker’s Creek, I love their Lesya red sweet pepper and green zebra tomato. I’m going to try their new plum salvia this year, too. Botanical Interests california giant purple zinnia performed marvelously for me last year in Zone 5 Iowa. So many swallowtail butterflies and goldfinches!
Ugh, I hope you have better luck with habaneros! We live in Colorado, Zone 5b. I’ve tried for 3 seasons & I’ve yet to get 1 with any spice. They all taste like bell peppers & I don’t care for bell peppers so I’ve been so disappointed! I’m definitely going to try the Red Ember Cayennes, thanks for the suggestion!
I don’t know if you’ve already done this, but what I hear from fellow gardeners here in NM that you need to stress your peppers to get them hot. Purposely don’t water them enough right at the end before harvest. Never tried it myself as I’m very allergic to peppers, but as you can imagine, there’s a lot of chile growing talk here!
Grow at least 2 plants of tomatillos when you grow them. You will love them. I have a food stand here in México and I make my salsa de tomatillo and everyone loves it
How did your mystery melon turn out? I don’t remember you mentioning it! Did you ever figure out what you want to plant in those large concrete planters? I ended up planting my first fruit trees a month ago since we’re entering our dormancy phase here in Florida! I planted a yellow variety of peach and also a white peach variety!
I ended up getting one melon, and a day or two before it was fully ripe, I believe a raccoon or something got to it and ruined it. The chickens ended up getting what was left. I plan to try again next year. As far as the planters go, Im still currently trying to make a decision but Im thinking I might try to get some dwarf fruit trees for them!! Those peaches sound amazing!
I planted tomatillos for the first time last year. I only wanted one plant but then read that they need a partner so I ran out and bought another one. Both the seedlings I tried to grow died You really would only need one there so SO productive. Also they like a lot of space they're like a little tree and grow very wide
Im slipping onions this upcoming year. May do some shallots to try, but my onions just didn't do well for 2 straight years and they take up too much space.
@@itsbreellis Our temperatures do not get as hot as yours, but the cold will. I have chosen blues, silvers and white. Since it starts in January, I won't have to get all of the yarn all at once. During the summer, we rarely get to 75 or 80. But that's life in Alaska. Don't even get me going on our short growing season of less than 90 days. Literally thinking of moving back down to the lower 48. Have a Merry Christmas and a Bountiful New Year.
would you say there is some urgency to purchase seeds sooner rather than later, strictly from a worry of Renee's, Botanical Interests, or High Mowing Seeds selling out of what Im wanting to buy?
Tomatillos need 3ft spacing and you need at least 2 plants. They grow quickly. I grow them every year and make salsa. Also, they are cold sensitive. I wait till the temperatures at night are warmer than 40 degrees.
Becky's from Acre Homestead here on RUclips grew a dried, pole black bean this year. She had great success. I don't know where she got the seeds, but you could message/comment and ask her.
Id love some!! Its something I've considered for years and never have yet. I originally didn't put many perennials in because we never planned to be at this house this long, but life happens and the housing market was crazy lol So Ive been adding more and more every year lol Maybe ill find some space for them this year!
I'm looking for seed potatoes. I typically buy organic from the store but that can be hit or miss. I just don't like paying as much for shipping as I do for the potatoes. Do you recommend any places that don't rip you off for shipping that might have seed potatoes?
Why did you get the seeds so early? I buy mine in the middle of February and then plant March 31st But why December but anyways have a good gardening season Bre
She said she had to go ahead and order onions to plant in the next 2 weeks so she decided to go ahead and buy majority for her 2025 garden. Plus there are sales at certain seed shops right now as well for the holidays.
Seed companies always put out there new varieties this time of year and they tend to go quickly. As the person above said as well most seed companies offer discounts/lower totals for free shipping to get sales this time of year so its a great time to restock!! Also makes planning for me a lot easier when I have everything In front of me!
I remember that too. I think it was dragontongue, but double check. She had said the variety she was using wasn't technically a black bean, but it could be used that way because she was having trouble finding a pole black bean too

I hope!
Ill check all those out!! Wishing you a great 36th year!
Maybe you can try to grow Puerto Rican black beans. They are good and very prolific. Good luck.
Ill check those out! Thanks for sharing!
Cherokee trail of tears is a black bean pole variety!
Cah-lah-bra, that's Italian Bre!❣️
I am excited to try some of what you are planting like the supremo and inka jewel roma types, also the cayenne with thicker walls. I have grown the apricotta and tomatillos. Just so you know, you need at least two tomatillos for pollination.
Appreciate the tip! I had no idea they needed 2 to pollinate!
Thank you so much for sharing! Ill check those out!
Was far too excited to watch this for someone in tropical Qld who can order almost none of these 🤣 love my zinderellas though
I got Ballerina Zinnias also.
@ thank you for the advice! I will definitely try that this season, I’m willing to try anything!
Grow at least 2 plants of tomatillos when you grow them. You will love them. I have a food stand here in México and I make my salsa de tomatillo and everyone loves it
Thank you for sharing!! I had no idea they had to have others to help pollinate!
@itsbreellis your very welcome. I am sure you will enjoy them.
Have you thought about growing watermelons? I've tried the sugar babies and they were sweet.
Have you done a seed starting video? I’m going to try starting my own seeds this year.
Yes tons!! I typically walk through the entire year as I go!
I planted tomatillos for the first time last year. I only wanted one plant but then read that they need a partner so I ran out and bought another one. Both the seedlings I tried to grow died You really would only need one there so SO productive. Also they like a lot of space they're like a little tree and grow very wide
It's not that you need two to get a lot of produce, you need two to cross pollinate to create fruit at all
That is interesting! I had no idea they needed a partner. Thanks for sharing!
Im slipping onions this upcoming year. May do some shallots to try, but my onions just didn't do well for 2 straight years and they take up too much space.
I just went to Michaels and bought my yarn for my Temperature blanket 🙃
Love that!!!
How do you keep critters away from your corn plants, what zone are you in?
My tomatillos were fun but def became a trap crop. Everything ate them up and not one tomatillos came from them. But they smell really good.
You gotta plant 2 tomatillos for pollination.
What kind of sugar snap peas did you get?
would you say there is some urgency to purchase seeds sooner rather than later, strictly from a worry of Renee's, Botanical Interests, or High Mowing Seeds selling out of what Im wanting to buy?
Grow at least two tomatillo plants - tomatillos can't self-pollinate!
Thank you for sharing this!
Tomatillos need 3ft spacing and you need at least 2 plants. They grow quickly. I grow them every year and make salsa. Also, they are cold sensitive. I wait till the temperatures at night are warmer than 40 degrees.
They take up a lot more space than I realized!! Ill have to see where I can put them!
Becky's from Acre Homestead here on RUclips grew a dried, pole black bean this year. She had great success. I don't know where she got the seeds, but you could message/comment and ask her.
What do you think about growing climbing roses?
Id love some!! Its something I've considered for years and never have yet. I originally didn't put many perennials in because we never planned to be at this house this long, but life happens and the housing market was crazy lol So Ive been adding more and more every year lol Maybe ill find some space for them this year!
If you add vinegar to hotsauce, it should be safe for up to 2 years.
Becky from Acre Homestead grew a pole black bean last year but I don’t remember the variety…
Ill have to see if I can figure that out!! Thanks for sharing!
I remember that too. I think it was dragontongue, but double check. She had said the variety she was using wasn't technically a black bean, but it could be used that way because she was having trouble finding a pole black bean too
What's your zone?
Great video! FYI it’s “colorway” not “color wave”
You’ll have to grow at least two tomatillos- the need each other to pollinate.
Thank you for sharing! I had no idea!
Plant 3 or 4 tomatillos they need others to set fruit
Appreciate the feed back! I wouldn't have known!
