I’m about to turn 24, and I’m still learning Biblical truths from the man that always told me, “God made you special, and he loves you very much,” as a kid.
@@dominicgraham5310 No thanks. I’m actually extremely tired of American Christianity distorted through the lens of Republican politics. I’m tired of Christians decrying everything that doesn’t align with their politics as unbiblical. I’m tired of Christians claiming the the Bible and the American left are inherently incompatible. Such a view lacks any measure of nuance or humility (ie. “I’m right, and anyone that read the same text I did and came to a different conclusion than I is wrong and needs my correction.) If you’re gonna be a Republican, be a Republican. I really don’t care. But don’t whinge about everything you don’t like being unbiblical. This is why no one likes us.

@@JP2GiannaT Agreed. We definitely need more than just the left or the right. It's going to make things hard to get back on track if it's always going to be team A vs team B. Some team C and team D would mean some actual compromise around here.
righty, so, i'm an atheist far-leftist who stumbled on this video accidentally. i just wanted to stop by and say, i really appreciated this video. even in progressive communities it's rare to see people acknowledge the worldwide role of america's politics, so i really appreciated you talking about that (my family being refugees from a country bombed by america). the history lesson was well researched and really important, and your rejection of ideology for values was a breath of fresh air compared to the partisanship i see in lots of evangelicals. even though i have different values, i respect people who follow their values rather than their fears or their wallets and i respect you for presenting that position to your audience. finally, to the americans thinking about who to vote for, let me say this: neither biden nor trump are the answer. labor unions and community organisations are. your churches and workplaces are the best place to start working for change. housing the homeless, feeding the hungry, standing up against the people who want to hold you down. act your values. go out and help people. it'll do so much more than a vote (though, sure, still vote).
@@rbrannon have you ever been in a union? i have, it's definitely not like that. obviously there are good and bad experiences with anything, but my experience (and that of most people i know) is that unions help us feel closer to our peers and empower us. and how much does it cost? it depends on the union and sometimes on your wages, but anywhere from the price of a coffee per month, to the price of a restaurant meal per month. many smaller unions have exemptions for the poor and unemployed looking for work. most importantly, unions represent all workers, whether they're dues-paying members or not. the primary reason for the passing of the new deal and the prosperity of america during the post-war era was the strength of the labor movement; the reason wages haven't increased with productivity since the 70's is the dismantling of unions after the end of the new deal coalition: workers no longer had a voice. if the minimum wage had gone up with productivity & inflation, it would be over $19 by now. it was union-organised strikes in the 20's and 30's that won americans weekends and 8 hour work days. that's the kind of organising america, and the world, needs right now. the kind that can actually change lives. i think unions are the place to do it. outside of party, outside of belief, people coming together to make their lives better together.
@@awkie Sounds socialist, communistic, complete opposites of Christianity. Okay to have labor unions, but not with great power to control business. It's a check on corrupt business practices, no more than that, should it be.
Right there with ya brother. I sort of stumbled here as well. Thanks for bringing a tiny slice of the left to this discussion. I grew up Christian and I believe I still am. However living in America grates on anyone with sense of morality. I grew up watching the messages of radical love and acceptance through Christ be co-opted by a politicians that used all the verbiage of Protestantism with none of the care for the poor or the down-trodden. I was told that what made Christ worth following was his rejection of greed and love for those that society felt weren't clean enough to commune with the divine. But then the same people that taught me these things abandoned those beliefs for neo-liberal capitalism. Instead of bringing people together they used my faith to divide the working class. To turn us against our neighbors for little more than greed and power. So I had enough. Didn't want to hear it anymore. Ironically, if it wasn't for a few philosophy professors I had at the regional school I went to I'd have given up on believing in a higher power altogether. Today I still feel isolated and it's hard, but there are Christian voices out there that see the injustice, the greed, and the exploitation. There are entire theologies of liberation and social concern that just never made it to me in Oklahoma. And honestly I've decided that I can keep my faith and still wish to help my community build those dual power structures, the same way Christ visited the sick, drove out the merchants, and fed the gathered masses.
I hope this becomes the movement of the church as we go forward. Becoming more bipartisan and and asking ourselves is it biblical rather than is it Republican or is it Democrat?
EXACTLY!! I was taught to line up EVERYTHING with God's word. If it doesn't line up, out with it. It takes a certain amount of wisdom given to us by knowing God's word and wanting to obey Him and not waiver.
Here's my dealio. I always voted "Christian", but only heard one side of the story which means I was uninformed. Ouch. Phil's vids give a more rounded perspective. He definitely has a lean to his walk, but it's one that balances mine. Good medicine. Thanks. (Edit: After viewing a few more of Phil's videos I have found him a bit of a Progressive Christian, which is to say, not a Christian at all in the Biblical sense. Progressive Christianity, while I'm sure is not a new thing, it is a particular brand of men's philosophy loosely based on Christian stories, morality, principles and "sacrificial" leanings. It won't get you to heaven and it will not produce the will of God in a life. Good medicine: While it was good to hear someone's opinion that was mostly devoid of the anger and the "I wish really bad things on you" sentiments in so many YT comments and social media outlets, I now feel I used the "good medicine" term a little early. After a bit more research into the perspective given out by this channel, it is now deemed quite poisonous and I will not be returning. Thanks...)
@jason thomas No it doesn't, but the president has very little power over changing that. Law change rests with the Supreme Court. We've had a Republican majority of judges for decades, but changing the law will not stop abortion as long as women seek them.
"The righteous are willing to disadvantage themselve to advantage the community." "The wicked are willing to disadvantage the community to advantage themselves." Quotes to live by. . .in Jesus' name.
Yes‼️ So what will disadvantage the community? Bigger Government 💙 or Bigger Economy ❤️? Prolife ❤️ or Late Term Abortion 💙? Lower Taxes ❤️ or High Taxes 💙? Etc... I listen to 💙 Biden/Harris speak of ‘greedy’ rich corporations and how they will repeal the TCJA (Tax Cuts & Job Act) on day 1 which will increase both middle class & upper class taxes. One might tell themselves ‘Even though my taxes are going up (disadvantage to me) it’s for the communities (advantage)’ but I ask is it? In the TCJA is where the individual mandate was removed. If that is repealed some of our community will have to pay the government for not being able to afford government health insurance. (I personally fall in this category; was fined $3,400 for not being able to afford $1,300 a month health plan with a $10,000 deductible) I am middle class income. Oh AND I have pre-Existing conditions. Cervical cancer in 2014. Also Middle Class taxes are raised by 3 or 4% instantly if TCJA is repealed. Is that good for the community? One might still think it is the right thing to allow the government force higher taxes and more mandates, but let me say one more thing. These ‘greedy’ rich corporations that you want to pay higher taxes for the good of our communities HOW DO these earn their business? The answer is they HAVE to offer valuable services or products to the American people to EARN our business. Do you think people have 401ks and retirement plans with these ‘greedy’ corporations? When their profit goes up from paying less tax what does that do for our community? They have more money to hire more people? Or invest back in their company which in turn increases those retirement funds? Let’s look at the flip side of things. Let’s say we increase taxes for us and those ‘greedy’ rich corporations. Where is that money going? It’s going to the government. The government forces the American people to pay them by gun point. (Figure of Speech) They create laws and mandates. So basically Biden = Bigger Government and Trump = Bigger Economy Now some might think bigger government is better for our community so it is worth the disadvantage. That is when I ask each and everyone who cares enough to look into the policies that will most likely be enforced. More than likely if Biden wins he will allow government funding to health facilities that perform abortions. Including Late Term Abortion (Trump stopped that) Beware of the smooth talkers with forked tongues. Do your research. As Christian ✝️ on different paths I am sure what is important to you will vary from me. Regardless of who you vote for. *God Bless You* I could write a book, but I am stopping here.
That is not a quote to live by... but virtue signaling...a non-biblical practice. The bible states that "if a man does not work he does not eat". God's expectation is that all mankind is to work...this was even mandated before the fall. Only the widows, orphans and the poor...those who are unable to work are to be helped...through family, and charity from the church...not the government. Also as Christians should we believe in an ideology that explicity denies the existence of God? The democrat party has embraced Socialism/Communism...which stem from the atheist ideology of Marxism. So as Christians should we vote for a party that has as a basis "there is no God"?I do not think so. As Christians we should be voting for the party that is based on Judeo-Christian values...(which are based on the bible) Today Judeo/Christian values are represented ONLY by the Republican/Conservative party. In prior years both the Republicans and Democrats stood for Christian values...God was valued by both parties. When you vote Democrat you vote for Marxism that is opposed to God, does not stand for the sanctity of human life, nor marriage, nor your right to your belief in God. If you have no knowledge of this then you are ignorant of history...study Stalin, Hitler, Mao. Wake up. If Trump does not get a second term and socialism is imbedded in our country you may be willing... initially... to pay most of your income to the government to "help" the poor, disadvantaged, etc until you wake up one day and realize you have given up our freedom...and Christians have been marginalized ...and we have to keep Christianity out of the public sector(no reaching the lost) and only in church...at least for as long as the Marxists allow us. Again study the effects of Marxism on the world. We can help people...and more should be done ...but on a biblical basis...through the creation of jobs, education, safe streets and communities, safe borders, no wars...and making people accountable for their own actions...and especially leading people to the saving knowledge of Christ!
You are seriously doing the Lord's work. I am a member of a white evangelical church and my political leanings make me feel very alone and very isolated. Our senior pastor told us a couple weeks ago that we should be voting on abortion when we vote this November. I love my church and I love my church community but I have a hard time understanding their politics and how we got where we are. Your videos make me feel like I'm not a terrible Christian after all.
Dalana Quintana, You don't have political beliefs, you have beliefs of what is right or wrong. Compare them to the Bible and believe God's interpretation.
Speaking as a Christian I think a fundamental misunderstanding of many of my evangelical friends is that neither party is "pro-abortion" both believe it is tragic. However, one believes it is a complex, tragic, and morally nuanced decision and as such should be left to the individual while the other party wishes to impose a strict and blind moral code on others. The bible explicitly calls us to serve the underprivileged, to be merciful to criminals, to welcome and protect immigrants and travelers and to give of ourselves. There is no explicit imperative in regards to abortion in the bible. It is never mentioned once. We can imply things from other sections but there is no clear single answer in the bible and even conflicting information as with many dilemmas we face in life. As such I think the decision for voting is granted some clarity.
@@rjeefamily926 We are knitted together in the womb by God himself. John the baptist, still in the womb, jumped for joy when he sensed Jesus. Neither Jesus nor John are ever spoken of as merely "potential". The baby is scientifically alive and scientifically separate from the mother with its own DNA, own blood type, and own distinct body. Killing a human who has done no wrong is murder. Murder is strictly commanded against over and over in the bible. American abortion numbers have long surpassed the number of soldiers we have lost in war. Adoption and foster care exist. C-sections can prevent almost all pregnancy complications that would threaten the life of the mother. Abortion is most comparable to the pagan societies that would offer their children to the false god Molech in hopes of gaining more comforts and conveniences in life. That is, people would try to improve their own lives at the cost of their own children.
Imo, abortion should be 100% legal in 1st trimester when the mother's life is at risk. However, if you really want to make the argument all abortion is bad, anti-abortion candidates need to be willing to provide government healthcare because people who are having abortions are not ready to accept the opportunities of parenting.
This is a great companion to the earlier video on “Why do Black/White Christians vote Democrat/Republican?” Is there a coincidence that the church went more “conservative” in the ‘60s as the Republicans went more anti-segregation?
None of this has much of anything to do with the Bible Sin is sin, someone watching both videos you mentioned would think only color sins in this country and racism is one of the Ten Commandments
AAAHHH I wish I had found this channel several weeks ago! You've articulated what I have felt in my heart for a long time on this topic very well. So thank you very much! I plan on bringing this video up next election.
I’m so glad I came across this video. For too long, Christians have been divided by partisan politics. As a Christian, I don’t think it’s unbiblical to support universal healthcare, UBI, the minimum wage, or protecting the environment, but at the same time, I’m strongly pro-life and against the LGBTQ movement, as all Christians should be. So very often, people assume if you support one political issue, then you must also support unrelated political issues, but that is just pure tribalism. Why should your position on taxes be related to your position on transgender rights? They are completely separate issues. As a Christian who has a mixture of conservative and progressive beliefs, I’m constantly attacked by both sides. Until we disentangle our political beliefs from the two-party system, division will persist among Christians.
@Joseph Logsdon I agree with a lot of what you're saying. I agree that tribalism/ partisanship is problematic & overly simplified. And that Biblical views are not limited to one party. But those left-leaning things you support are all pro-life. They all help people stay alive and healthy. Additionally, they tend to decrease demand for abortion. If a woman (or a couple) has no access to affordable healthcare, and her job won't give her much (if any) maternity leave, and she's earning an un-livable minimum wage, she'll be more tempted to choose abortion. (Even if it's illegal) Even compared to adoption. She'd still need prenatal care & maternity leave, which, in those situations would be unpaid leave. I'm not saying that makes it ok to abort, but desperate people often reach for desperate measures. Removing/ decreasing the desperation (and helping empower people to do the hard thing) is more effective than simply banning something. The Prohibition Era didn't stop people from drinking. It started an underground market. You mention tribalism, yet you seem to accept the tribalistic assumption that there's only one way to apply Biblical pro-life beliefs to political policies & parties. Or that all informed/ devout Christians agree that the Bible condemns loving, same-gender marriage. (It's not just a fringe belief to disagree with the traditional view. It's not just a hedonistic or pick-and-choose perspective, although there are those who take that approach. But I'm talking about theological, academic research that looks at the linguistic, historical, cultural, & theological context of those (few) verses.) Good Christians can have different beliefs on those things. Additionally, there are certain issues on which we can have a theologically conservative belief, but a sociopolitically liberal perspective. Because of separation of church and state. I don't think it's appropriate or helpful to impose Christian rules on non-Christians. (Especially if it's consenting adults who aren't hurting anyone.) It's also about the Golden Rule. If you don't want Islamic or Jewish (etc) or secular rules to be imposed on us, then why should we impose Christian rules on them or anyone else?
@@katyscott87 When it comes to abortion, we should be trying to reduce the need for it, but at the same time, murder should never be legal. It’s not an either-or situation. The Bible clearly condemns homosexual acts, and if you believe otherwise, then you are a heretic, and I don’t use that word lightly. I know that some people have tried to suggest that the Bible is only talking about lustful forms of homosexual expression, but if you look closely enough at the text, you will see that the acts themselves are labeled as being against God’s design, regardless of whether they are taking place within a committed relationship or not. Unlike areas of personal behavior, the Bible doesn’t have a clearly defined position on economics, mostly due to the fact that Jesus wasn’t focused on the economic complexities of this world, leaving room for disagreement. When it comes to sexual ethics, however, there can be no disagreement. As Christians, we believe morality to be objective, regardless of whether people recognize the morality or not. In order for the human race to thrive, society needs an objective framework, something that secularism doesn’t provide.
If Jesus cared for the poor and sick and weak when he walked on earth - so should all Christians. Don't be fooled by the religious right Pharisees who have tried to make Christianity revolve around one or two of THEIR pet issues only.
i'm amazed... i'm an atheist and i take in a ton of atheistic content... for some reason your videos came up on my suggestions and, wanting to be open minded, i gave a few of them a watch... i'll admit, i was biased towards my expectations of what i was about to see but you, sir, you give objecitve information on complex topics and, gotta add, you're charismatic while doing so... so i tip my hat off to you... you've actually helped me understand better people who live around me but think differently in a way i could understand, relate and comprehend.
Thank you. I've been under SO much pressure to vote for a certain candidate, or I'm "not a real Christian" "not a mature Christian" "No critical thinking Christian would vote for...".
You're a wise man among so many shallow! Thank you. Found this year's choice was in fact easy! Your quote on what the righteous vs the wicked cared about was right on the money!
Thank you so much for making these videos. As someone who grew up conservative, traveled a bunch for work, lived in different socio-economic areas, I eventually saw my political views change. Years ago I would've considered myself Republican, but seeing racial inequality first hand living in an 88% black community and touring with a black musician for a year opened my eyes to some things. Common things that I was told in conservative circles about racial inequality in modern America didn't line up with the things I saw. I moved back to the area where I grew up, but I no longer saw things the way most other conservative Christians did. When I would try to explain the perspective of other groups, I just got a bunch of conspiracy theories thrown back at me about "ungodly liberals" and "George Soros." When I try to explain things to my liberal friends I get conspiracy theories about "facist conservatives" and the "racist, sexist, Christians." 95% of my black Christian friends vote liberal, even though they are rather conservative on issues, and 95% of my white Christian friends vote conservative even though I don't see any of them yelling "socialism" when they get their stimulus check. I see two groups who would agree on 95% of stuff, but they don't understand each other. All I see in the current political climate is two sides pandering to demographics. I want to vote for the things I think matter, but I don't see a good option that actually supports godly values with either of the two candidates.
You have just summarized my thoughts. I thank you for that. God bless you! I believe that one of the main reasons is that modern followers of Christ have become more religious and partisan than spiritual and wise. They are so concerned about preserving their past traditions instead of sticking to the core values of Christianity. Let us remember what the Word says: True worshippers worship in Spirit and Truth. Let us all remember that our love for God and our neighbors must prevail when making critical decisions.
If you feel there is not a csndidate that is viable for you, you have options to not vote, or write in a vote. We have local things that need to be voted on ad well. Take care.
My views have changed radically over the years too. It started when I got a job at an inner-city health clinic in their HIV program. The things I was told, and believed, as a conservative were shattered daily as I saw individuals, not a nameless, faceless group. When I'd tell my conservative family and friends things I'd observed, I could see walls go up. They literally did not want to hear, or believe, what I was saying. On another note, a few years ago my very conservative brother- and sister-in-law bought a Prius. My sister-in-law's sister, probably even more conservative than they are, was appalled because everyone knows a Prius is a 'liberal' car. When she told me that, I couldn't help but laugh because I wasn't aware cars had ideologies!
@jason thomas Abortion has been with us since the beginning of time and will not go away. A Trump presidency will not eliminate abortion. We have had a Republican majority on the Supreme Court for decades and yet abortion is still with us. Reversing Roe v. Wade will not stop abortions--it will just return the decision of legal v. illegal abortion back to the states. It will be like it was before Roe v. Wade where women seeking abortions travel to states where it's legal, or find a provider who performs them illegally. The real question is WHY women seek abortions. I would be willing to bet there is at least one women who has had an abortion, many more who've contemplated it, within most churches. Being able to minister to these women before they have an abortion is where we need to focus.
God is not over concerned with American politics. He is about His Kingdom and the redemption of his creation. It is a blessing to have the opportunity to vote in an election but we are citizens of heaven and Jesus should be the only real stumbling block in our dealings with the world. If we are creating and preventing barriers with politics,, we’ll never reach a level where the gospel is discussed.
The chosen children of GOD are citizens of HEAVEN now, right now,not in the future. As soon as the person become born again that person immediately is a citizen of HEAVEN.Why do folks say behold : old things are passed away all things are now new,,all A L L.. Let's put it that way. Lets say both you and I are in HEAVEN and I would say to you up there,, I am a citizen of HEAVEN. What would be your response to me.. I would guess you saying,,you likewise. It is something for then and now. There is no duel citizenship where GOG is concern,,man do that.. The world which we now occupy is a kingdom with many subsets kingdoms within..Do not forget that the son of GOD was down here,on this very present soil that we now walk. What did HE come down here to do..Rescue fallen man and those who opt up for HIM rescuing them ,their place of rescue, will it be this present fallen world,or this kingdom that fast coming to its end...NO... HE was here to rescue fallen man and usher in HIS kingdom, which will the eternal dwelling place for those who accept HIM..And so, HE gone out of here many thousands of years now..And now who must continue that part of the work where HIS kingdom is concern:those that have accepted HIM,HIS children. One of the things that kingdoms have are ambassadors and it no different with HIS..Have you not heard that HIS chosen in earth kingdom they are HIS eyes, ears, hands, mouth feet etc. Dose not that appear as characteristics of an ambassador...Now when the United States of America sends an ambassador to France or any other foreign country dose America send that person to push France or that countries interest or America.. It is clear the America ambassador represents the American interest.. Well it's the same for a child of GOD. When that child becomes save GOD could pull that child out of here but then who would be HIS hands mouth feet eyes etc, and so all it is for that reason that HIS saved children continue on in earths kingdom,no longer as a citizen there but instead these children are now HIS reps,HIS ambassadors on kingdom earth pushing HIS agenda rather what they're pushing before being saved.. The children of GOD are to be minding HEAVENLY matters not what going on down here earthly...All of that earthly stuff is fast heading to the rocks and it will all be crushed.... Politics in all forms the main one...
Which illustrates the main problem with America, its religion and social conservatism. YOU believe in something and you say WE. This is why Texan conservatives believe that OTHER WOMEN should not have the right to abortion. Imagine liberals adopting a law according to which organised church attendance would be illegal. All conservatives would do from that point on would be campaing for the "freedom to practice as we want" and "my religion is nobody’s business". That is the problem with American conservatives, they are mostly f-ing hypocrites.
Thank you so much for your sane, loving and well researched word on race and politics. Division is a tool of the enemy and I definitely want to be on the side of love, positive change and the love of Jesus for us all
I always was a fan of Mr Vischer from Veggie Tales but some of the videos like this one above has made me appreciate him in a new and wonderful light. Keep up all the good work!
I have admit I was skeptical when I first clicked to watch, but pleasantly surprised. I've caught flack for years for not 'picking a side' even when I try to explain I have picked a side it's just not represented by a donkey or an elephant, but rather a cross. Thank you for this video. Very well done!
Amen amen ! Yes. LOVE is the command and we are so blinded by other chaos that we are missing what Jesus wants us to be . Thank you for sharing this amazing powerful message
It makes sense though. It's the region that fought for slavery, so playing on racist fears worked like a charm. It's still working today. It's why trump is president and will get at least another 60 million votes.
@@no40acresandamuleforyou.47 Christians did fight for slavery. Most southern slave owners were Christian and followed Leviticus. All of the Qanon people and the anglo saxon caucus people are Christians. And trump did get over 60 million votes. So I'm right on all accounts.
This is by far the most biblical take I've seen on voting and I'm really glad to see a Christian content creator acknowledging that both parties have biblical merits (as well as shortcomings). The decision is all in how you prioritize things and I find it counterproductive when fellow believers judge other believers based on how they vote. Great video.
So good! This year has been one of the more difficult election years to weed through and research and become informed of the facts in issues and candidates... which is why I really appreciate the reminder to PRAY. We need both as we wield the power of our vote.
Trump was dishonest with America and withheld vital information about the pandemic, causing needless death. Is hat not enough for you? A person does not deserve to lead the country if he does not care about its people.
Please do more of these short explainer videos. They're quite informative and stimulate discussion in the Christian community throughout the democratic world aka I'm in South Africa and find these videos useful to debate socioeconomics with fellow Christian peers.

Phil, I am turning 13 years old in 3 months. And I love VeggieTales. By the way, my favorite animated TV show is Liberty's Kids. If you've all seen it before, then you remember it.
Phil Vischer is trying his best to show that not all Republican and Democrat policies are evil, but many hate the other side so much that they label phil as evil. It saddens me when Phil Vischer is being incredibly moderate with his videos and both the extreme right and left want to cancel him because he critique their side and does not view either side as inherently evil. They shout that Vischer is evil and is either a Socialist/Markist or a racist/Trumpist because he doesn’t agree with their point of view that the other side is evil at all cost. Phil clearly assign both praise and criticism to both political parties, and yet just the littlest critique of ones side makes people uncomfortable and they threaten to boycott VeggieTales. This clearly reveals that a portion of American Christians on the left and right are shaped by cable news and not the church or scripture. The main purpose of the kingdom of God is reconciliation and not tribalism. America’s pluralistic society is the greatest example of what the kingdom of god will look like, but some Christian extremists on both the left and the right do not want to hear what the other side has to say and rejects reconciliation and seeks vengeance. I beg of you to please be respectful to the man who has shaped the childhoods of millions of Christians and is trying to continue to help shape them through love and reconciliation as they enter adulthood in a crazy political nation driven by sensationalized cable news.
It may seem that way to you, but what I have observed from Mr. Vischer since the current president was elected was more of a lecture/education on how 'white Christians' did it wrong. To be fair, I obviously keep listening and sometimes I am very pushed and challenged. However, sometimes I know their being Obviously bias and not giving all information.
That's exactly what he said. The problem with the church is their obsession with a ranking order. The "least of these" is everyone in the group that he mentioned (unborn, immigrants, refugees, poor, imprisoned, etc). But according to the church, the least of these consists only of the unborn. That's why videos like this matter. It calls attention to the whole written word of God- not just the parts Christians are most comfortable addressing.
@@crispblox3000 your statement is false and an opinion. The church does not exclude the others and include only abortion. Where do you get that information. Whose " church" are you referring to? Look at all of the outreach done by all different denominations throughout our country, in every town, everywhere. I was the missions director at our church, and our outreach was to foreign missions, as well as local missions. Human needs were being met locally and worldwide. MANY, MANY other churches do the same. So abortion wasn't even addressed other than joining the 'walk for life" for any church to participate in. So, the Majority of our outreach DID address the other least of these. So please do not make a statement like that with the lack of info to prove it.
Wow. I discovered your video channel tonight and so relieved to find a channel that reflects my concerns and values as a Christian. I am an intellectual man of faith and I often have issues with the right and the left. I often feel out of place in Christian circles. Thanks brother for your informative view of how we got so mess up and more important - pointing to scripture rather than politics.
It will never cease to amaze me that a country that has fifty kinds of everything has once settled for TWO parties, the winner takes it all system and nothing in between.
The question is, as a Christian do I want to vote to give the government power to take care of people (which, like everything else, they do poorly) or do I want to vote for policies which benefit community organizations like churches and service-oriented non-profits to take care of people. Of course, the most extreme cases should be handled by the government but most cases are not extreme and should be handled by communities and people, not government. The more government takes from its citizens the less the citizens participate in social outreach which encourages God and churches and benefits the individual.
Well, a lot of things aren't that simple. Remember those tax cuts Trump passed. Turns out those hurt churches and faith-based non-profits because now people didn't need to make big donations to offset their taxes. To the tune of about $15 billion annually, not to mention charitable bequests.
I would just like to mention that the advice to vote to your disadvantage, if it benefits the least among us, is based on a presumption that government can/will solve the issue. How many social programs can we say have met our expectations?
My question is this...was the present occupant in the WH the only answer? I was prepared to vote Republican for the first time in 2016 because of the abortion issue. But when this man was chosen as the Republican nominee, I was horrified. If Jesus didn’t teach us anything else, He taught us about character. I didn’t know anyone who said the things this man said and acted the way he did. The issue of abortion became secondary. I just couldn’t then and four years later, I still can’t.
If you want to reduce abortion rates, then vote for the party that will 1) promote sex ed and knowledge of contraceptives 2) make contraceptives easily available (possibly making them free or heavily subsidized) 3) provide free maternity care/health care 4) provide financial support for raising children Points 1 and 2 will reduce demand for abortions by preventing accidental pregnancies in the first place. Point 3 will reduce the physical difficulties of pregnancy. Point 4 will reduce the financial difficulty of child rearing. Both of which again will reduce demand for abortion as more women feel comfortable with having a child. Combine this with advocating for giving a child up for adoption instead of aborting, and you have a recipe for huge decrease in the abortion rate. I know which party would support this platform, and it isn’t the Republicans.
Enjoying this series very much. (as a non American) These things aren't all that different here in Canada. Thanks very much for the balanced and appropriate words. Bob and Larry 2024
My favorite part about this whole video is that Phil never said whether to vote Republican or Democrat... he simply said vote with a conscience, and y’all immediately starting calling him out for supporting Democrats... he never said Democrats, but you knew. You knew that voting with a conscience meant voting against Trump, even if it didn’t completely align with your values. You watched this video that showed no explicit favor to either side, and yet you understood the answer. That’s your conscience. It knows, and you do too, even if it’s painful. It’s never too late to change your mind, and if you’re wrong or dissatisfied, you can always go back.
Today's evangelicals have been completely conned by the religious right (political group) that unless you bow down to their candidate you are considered a heretic
Incorrect, and you are using a deceptive tactic here. You are begging the question when you say "You knew...". I am personally upset by this video because Phil is suggesting that maybe it's not so bad to vote for a pro-abortion candidate, as long this person is using the apparatus of government to help people in other ways. It's really a bait-and-switch. His other video on abortion goes on to say that Republican candidates haven't really done a great job in lessening the quantity of abortions anyway. This is all very subtle, but wrong. You simply cannot and should not ever vote for a candidate that is pro-abortion, no matter what other issues are in play. Without the fundamental right to be born, there is no additional right to be considered. All sin is odious to God, but clearly murder is among the *most* destructive to society. No one should need to watch an actual video of an abortion, or a documentary on the emotional struggles of women who have had abortions, to understand how evil and destructive this singular act is. Phil displays a statement about the righteous being willing to be disadvantaged and then presents it *as though* it were from the book of Proverbs. I know he attributes Waltke, but make no mistake: He wants you to think this is a paraphrase of a Biblical quote. He may actually believe it is himself. However, it's not. The Biblical principle of service is done on two levels: via the Church as an organization; and on the personal level among your neighbors. Contrary to foolish worldly-wisdom, it does not take a village to raise a child. If it did, God would have given that mandate. Further, NO WHERE does the Bible suggest secular governments should be involved in charity, and this is where Mr. Vischer goes horribly awry in his thinking. In fact, if history teaches us anything in this regard, it's that government sponsored charity leaves communities in shambles in the long run. His teaching appears to be a thinly veiled social justice gospel. A big government candidate, good-hearted, good-intentioned though he/she may be, will only exacerbate society's miseries in the long run. Romans 13 teaches that we must respect government, because it's primary purpose from God is to protect us from evildoers. If we have the power to shape our own government, we should limit its authority to that sphere. The local church alone must operate in the spiritual sphere. The Founding Fathers understood this principle, and created an absolutely ingenious system to preserve these principles. I totally understand not voting for Trump. But please don't be fooled into thinking voting for any pro-abortion, big-government candidate is righteous or even reasonable. Even history shows that it's not.
@@Deslung I actually have a video on this exact subject, I’d really like it if you watched it. Abortion actually does decrease significantly faster under democratic presidents (and I’m saying this as someone who isn’t a democrat). Not to mention... Trump isn’t pro-life himself. He’s paid for seven different women’s abortions (all proven with actual court cases, I promise) and is currently FORCING women on the borders of our country to have abortions and hysterectomies against their will. He’s forced more abortions on these women than he’s stopped within our own country, and these are facts. No candidate, no woman, democrat or republican is “for abortion” it’s a long painful process that we’d all like to avoid. But the republican strategy is to make it as illegal as possible, and the democratic strategy is to make it as unnecessary as possible (aka, providing resources for women not to get pregnant in the first place, providing more healthcare and childcare to women so they feel more inclined to have the child and not be afraid of the financial) and the results are undeniably more efficient. Check it out if you have a moment! ruclips.net/video/n9lUa6oD1J0/видео.html And thank you for replying to my comment, your perspective is appreciated.
Good things to think about. All of us need to trust more in Christ and His church and less in either political party. However, it does seem like the American church in general has abandoned it's role to care for the least of these and expects the government to play that role- which we have seen neither party can do well. So I vote based on who allows me the most freedom to live out my Christian beliefs and try and care for the people He puts in my life. The government will never be the answer, but we as the Church need to step up and be the Church to a lost and hurting world by the power of the Holy Spirit and with the Love of Christ meeting both practical and spiritual needs.
Well, that was a breath of fresh air. I didn't happen upon this video until after the election was over, although the results are still being disputed, and I have been stressed before, during, and after the election. Much of what I see in the media, both national news media and social media, is ugly, angry, hostile, defiant, defensive, contemptuous, vindictive, etc. This video series calmly presents a Christian perspective that I don't see coming from a lot of people whether they profess a Christian faith or not, and it reaffirms my belief that no party has all the answers or all the "right" answers. Thanks!
Here's the problem with this video: to vote to "protect life" (anti-abortion and contraception) is to vote Republican-- pro-Trump Republican. But then, you're voting AGAINST social programs, humanitarian concerns here and abroad, LGBTQ+ rights, gay marriage, universal health care, the public schools, gun control, support for Ukraine against the Russian invasion, race relations taught in the schools, etc, etc. My dad made me promise never to vote for a pro-choice candidate or party, yet, I could never stomach voting Republican, so I have not voted since 1980. I now support the Democratic Party for several reasons. I recognized that Trump would be a nightmare for this country and was planning to con voters into believing that he won future elections when he did not because he said he was planning to do this! Abortion is the taking of a human life, but it is virtually impossible to stop or even slow down by coercive measures. (I've read some historical studies that show that self-induced and facilitated abortions have always been common, even where forbidden by law and punishable.) Many mothers with children have abortions; what would happen when hundreds of thousands of moms with kids were carted off for long prison sentences? And often, doctors cannot distinguish between a spontaneous miscarriage and an intentional, induced abortion. In Texas and some other pro-life states, they aim to try to stop pregnant females from leaving the state to have abortions. How are these state governments going to do that? We'll be like the USSR behind the Iron Curtain! Trump tried to break up NATO, in service to his friend, Vladimir Putin! That's UNFORGIVABLE in my book. Trump knew from Putin himself that Russia would be invading Ukraine under false pretenses to seize its land, resources, and modern factories. My dad is no longer with us. I waited until he had passed to vote. The GOP is and always will lean towards being racist, sexist, and xenophobic. It's in its ideological DNA. (Russell Kirk's treatise on why he's a conservative.) And for these reasons, I am not.
Thanks for your faithful clear teaching. It’s not easy to vote apart from ideology when that’s how the choices are set up. I have a hard time voting for social programs because I just don’t trust them and I think a lot of people talk themselves out of actually helping others because they voted for someone else who would take care of it, supposedly.
I’d argue that Christians should advocate that the Church cares for the the least of these, and not our government. That would expand the Kingdom more.
i don't think that's as possible under protestantism, especially with smaller/not far-reaching churches like there are in america. that'd probably be possible in catholicism though
Except, there is no provision in the Bible that helping people should only come through two means - individual charity to others and support through a church. Supporting the poor, the immigrant, etc., can be done also through government action. Taxes you already pay go to feeding and housing the poor. The Bible doesn't care how Matthew 25:4 is carried out.
I can't vote for abortion, same sex marriage, gender mutilation of children, or reverse racism. So tell me, what's so important on the other side to outweigh all of that?
Is it not implied? Is it wise to think that the government, which we have the opportunity to elect, amounts to nothing? Perhaps a more accurate question would be, does not God serve the needs of His children through decisions that we make? You did not choose where you were born. You or I could have been born in a country where we have no such ability. And with ability, comes responsibility.
This is a great breakdown of the issues around faith and politics. I don't agree with all of your points, but I'm not so self righteous as to believe I'm always right either. God bless, and keep striving to call Christians back to following Christ, rather than some other ideology.
I was raised on Phil's work in Veggie Tales, and if not for hateful things done to me by people of the church (no SA, just cruelty and bullying.. "just"), i might still be one. But i know i would still be how i am now. Someone who believes in helping those in need regardless of what letter or animal they associate with. I believe the only way to vote is to vote to help peoppe in all walks of life, regardless of who or what they believe, because at the end of the day, the things we all share are this world, and lives that need to be held to their fullest potential. Anything shy of that goes against everything society has built up to this point. Thank you.
I belief that political views shouldn’t be mix with religion. Jesus name shouldn’t be in the same sentence. Like you said that “Jesus would throw both tables out of the temple.”
If you are being a Christian it may be possible to support actions by both sides and disagree and condemn actions by both sides too. It depends what is Biblical and following the Gospel. Too often we reject everything or accept everything without questioning. We still need to question and hold to account people we trust. People are not infallible and can make mistakes as well as deliberately do wrong.
I think it’s important to say that centrism isn’t where we should be either. Being moderate for the sake of being moderate is like choosing both parties, when, as you say, Jesus would choose neither. Discerning our principles and seeing which party hits the most of them shouldn’t just coax us into the path of least resistance/ whatever is normative to everyone. Norms are often very harmful. The center of society is skewed. Taking a stand doesn’t have to look like standing with a certain party, but it should be taking a stand.
From Rich Cavaliero: Don't think only of making abortion illegal, think of making abortion unnecessary. As pointed out the reduction of abortion is far more significant under Dem presidents than GOP. As suggested here, it may be because Dem funding for Planned Parenthood might help limit unwanted pregnancy. Remember the name is "planned" NOT "unplanned" parenthood! Perhaps Christians should focus on changing the religious views on birth control!
Thank you for making these videos! It's really helped me to articulate how I've been thinking and feeling as well as educate myself on how much is shaped by history. Thank you for another example of putting God in the place He deserves. Only God offers salvation, not either political party. God calls us to love Him and love one another, thank you for saying that so well
If election day comes and I don't feel confidently informed, should I still vote? I feel like I can't figure out which information about candidates to believe.
I get more informed information about national and state elections than I do for local. Such as our local college has trustees that are voted in. I never get any information on who they are or what they do. Same with judges. drives me crazy trying to figure out how to be an informed voter when there is no information available.....
Every Christian in America needs to watch this (along with all the other Holy Post videos). We are so badly broken in this country. As Christians, we were never supposed to allow this world to divide us, as we are all members of the same body of Christ. We are, sadly, divided though. Our polarized politics has spilled over into our churches and communities, and it is not only dangerous, it hobbles our ability to spread the good news of Christ. We can end this division though, we must.
I understand what you are trying to say but honestly, what is dividing us and rightfully so, is The Word of God. The Lord says that judgement will begin in the household of Faith and that He will separate the wheat from the tare - it is clear this is happening. At the end of the day, this is about Righteousness and unrighteousness. His Word says that He is looking for those who will worship Him in spirit and in TRUTH. Hypocrites who intentionally lie, steak, cheat or are unwillingly led astray because they do not study to show thyself approved or have a dedicated daily prayer life - are to blame. Those who disregard Matthew 25, where Jesus was very clear about our roles as His Followers and also in 1 John 4 which gives pointed instructions about LOVE, from God Who IS LOVE - they will be held accountable for choosing to worship at the feet of hate, bigotry, greed, selfishness and false doctrine. Both parties are flawed because people are in them - there are no perfect human beings. But if you look at what the brother laid out in the platforms and juxtaposed against the Word, the choice is clear. One says they are for certain things but their policies are completely antithetical to the caring of God's people. Judgement belongs to God, not man. Our job is to serve God👑 by loving Him and one another. PERIOD!💯💜💯
@@chelabuford7106 You sound great, until I saw you only use 2 points of the gospel, and left out truth. Trump hasn't lied about his stand for Christian values. You accuse him of lying on that, when he isn't. Yet the Democrats are lying about their concern for the poor. They're concern is for themselves, they want Christianity out of America, they will be selfish about it, even if it's false pride about their works, because that's the way unbelievers are, it's in God's word. Shockingly, no one has brought up how many people will use agencies, people, to get what they want, lying all the way. I expect the world to be fooled, but not Christians. Actually, many unbelievers still think about what they're doing and do right in many situations, while many Christians have become "Burger King" believers, picking and choosing from the Bible, "having it their own way", being in error rather than truth. Christians have God's leading in who to give to. And it won't always be who we think. But government social agencies will give to whoever they want, and hey, when they need more, the socialist government, you gotta know that's the Democrats, (Trump cut taxes) and the Democrats will (un) just (ly) raise your taxes. Not a problem for the rich government officials espousing socialism, taking your hard earned money so you have the privilege of living with all the socialist loving poor who won't work, and as an added bonus, Uncle Govt is the provider!! Hallelujah, praise the lord...that being the god of this world, in human guises. Wake up. Christians will be held most accountable receiving worse punishment for believing and living wrong than reasonable unbelievers who chose Christian values, just never gave their lives to Christ, in the eternal judgement.
@@michaelalbertson7457 I sound great because I have The Word as my source. I really don't have to use more than those two scriptures for anyone seeking after the heart of God to highlight the essence of what being a Christ Follower is ultimately about; LOVE. I could use other scriptures to espouse, pontificate and illuminate The Gospel of Jesus Christ but it will ALL still be reduced to LOVE. Loving Him with all our heart, mind, soul and strength and Loving one another as we love ourselves - which are the two GREATEST Commandments according to The Word of God. The Word says and in these two, the WHOLE LAW IS FULFILLED. This simply means, if you submit to His will, you will learn His love for you, accept it, be grateful, know that you were created to love - love others; serve HIM with everything you have, realizing we didn't come here just to consume but to really be a Light in the world. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven". - Matthew 5:16 Everything you espouse outside of God's Word is pure conjecture and opinion. Have you ever heard of a reprobate mind? That is what happens to continuous denial of truth, a hard heart and a hard head. The Bible also speaks of many will come before the Lord Jesus saying, "Lord, Lord... But I will tell them, "I will have nothing to do with you! Get out of my sight, you evil people!" Another translation says, And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; "DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS." Is that not what we have been witnessing?!!! It is not my job to debate you, The Word will, and ALWAYS will STAND on its own! I just know what I know from His Holy scriptures to guide us into all TRUTH. LOVE is evident to those who practice it and conversely so is evil evident to those who don't practice it. Religion makes the mind dull, the heart coarse and unresponsive to the true teachings of Love and Righteousness. Relationship with GOD will always be a mirror to our hearts, in real time, to help us make decisions that honor HIM not our checkbook or political persuasions. Conservatism these days has come down to take as much as you can and keep as much as you can. Caring not for all people, only care for yourself and give yourself all the advantages while taking advantage of "the others" and the least of these. Democrats are not perfect but they certainly come much closer to representing the poor, downtrodden and the masses - the middle class - not the privileged few. This administration in particular, has passed two permanent tax cuts each giving 83% out of 100% or 83¢ out of every $1.00 to the wealthiest people and yet you make this argument?! That is disingenuous and ridiculous on its face!💯 Transactional politics does not mean this person is at all a Follower of Jesus Christ. God never told us in His Word to obtain power this way or to trust in this world system for what we need but to ultimately trust in Him. You have heard of the Pharisees and Saducees correct? Well, this is the modern version in a few certain sects of "Christianity". The thieves are in the temple and have been. God is watching. We are being destroyed from within, in this country. We are supposed to be the United States of America. Some still choose to relitigate the Civil War. Some are power hungry materialists, which The Bible calls idolaters. No one can take your faith from you - that is your personal decision. However, you shouldn't try and push ANY faith on anyone. God clearly gave us all the opportunity to decide; "yes" or "no" - very simple. An extremist faith is an extremist faith no matter where it comes from, especially if you seek to deny the humanity of the Life God created. The good news is He is the final judge and His ways are perfect. You may want to rethink your position, but that is still your choice and yours alone. I wish you well. I choose LOVE.
@@chelabuford7106 Without wealthy people, you don't got good jobs, took me a long time to figure that out, and probably only because I listened to every view and chose the one that made the most sense. Jesus said if you love Me, keep one commandment. Oh, did I misquote that? You got a whole lot more commandments out there to prove you love God. And there's a whole lot more scripture in the Bible you ain't even come close to considering. Man does not live by bread alone, but by EVERY word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Yep, you sound good, but you're missing a lot. Hope you take the time to consider the whole counsel of God found in the Bible as revealed by the Holy Spirit. It's worth it to know. You haven't considered that we have free will to obey God and do what He says? He don't force anyone to come to Him. As for the election, God chose the right candidate for what He wants done. You mean you decide rather than obey God, and vote for who He wants, after all, He called the man and the man answered, here am I. You got free will all wrong. God's will is what Christians follow. The world has been saying free will for centuries, and they're right, what many Christians are not understanding is that after by free will of choosing God as their Lord, God's will is their only option, if they want to please God. After all, since God is always right and never wrong, all Christians should want to hear Him and obey Him, to please our wonderful and good and gracious Heavenly Father. He rewards us with joy and more. Praise God. I'm not ignoring your other statements, too long to respond in detail to, in that, you wouldn't understand or believe what I'd say. I will say most of them are so off base, there's not much I can say, you're nowhere near the truth. Go to God and ask Him about all this.
The government has done a poor job taking care of anything. The poor remain poor, the immigrants get no citizenship, racism is still rampant. This is why I vote for small government and let us Christians have more resources to help our neighbors.
Love these videos. I feel very isolated as a progressive Christian sometimes. The way I see the world and the way older, conservative white Christian's see it is vastly different. Always working to expand the common ground. These videos can help shrink the gap. Definitely sharing this and the videos on abortion and black Christian's compared to white Christian's 🙌
I think you need to be careful about this message. As a Christian, you are commanded to take care of the least of these BUT that doesn’t mean that you have to vote for the government to do that. There are Organizations and churches that can fill that role. The way our political system works today, if you vote for the party that feels government is the way to take care of the least of these( and what is the definition of caring... making them dependent on government program???), then you are also voting for the party that believes in killing babies, destroying the families, in silencing the voice that disagrees with their views, and is anti God. I believe the Proverbs verse is being twisted as well. I know a group of Godly men, who some would say are wealthy, who loved God and loved people, they invested their wealthy to include time, talents and money to create, support, and work in organizations that helped the disadvantaged. They didn’t provide handouts, they taught them skills so they could have pride in themselves, make their own living, take care of their own families. Believe it or not it was government regulations that hindered their work. By voting for the party that says they will take care of the least of these, when we as Christians should be stepping forward and taking care of the people instead of relying on a government that also takes away our moral compass and our Godly heritage.
Great video, but I have one critique. Imo, all the points you brought up would be valid if you take out the social issues, namely abortion. Valid points can be made and good moral people can be on both sides of the question of how best to help the poor, how best to address past racial injustices, or the best government policy toward those with no health coverage, how big government should be, immigration policy, etc.. However, all of these are debating things that affect quality of life for some certain people group. By contrast with the abortion issue, we're talking about the legalized murder of an entire people group; i.e. not merely quality of life, but life, itself. That puts it in a different category. That puts the importance and moral culpability of the issue on a higher tier. I won't say a Christian must vote Republican because, of course, there is corruption there also and things to not like about the party, but I will say without qualification that it is WRONG and sinful to vote for the party that consistently stands opposed to what God has ordained; the separation and distinction and different roles of the genders, the biblical definition of marriage, objective transcendent standard of morality, and most importantly, the immeasurable value of innocent human life.
This video is naive and simplified to the point of meaningless. Abortion is supported by one party, the Democrats -- and fully endorsed any time before birth (and ever AFTER) by both the head and VP on the ticket. This period of history is like living in the time of abolition debates in the British parliament when Christian PM William Wilberforce fought for years trying to ban slavery.
No one wants more abortion. The right seeks to reduce abortion by making it illegal. The left seeks to reduce abortion by making it less necessary. Which approach is more moral is an open question, but we know which approach is more effective. As it stands now, the liberal approaches have proven more effective in reducing abortions that the conservative approaches.
Is it not also WRONG and SINFUL to vote for candidates who consistently display the works of the flesh as described in Galatians 5:19, and who display none of the fruit of the spirit? Leadership matters and it's naive to think that any decision doesn't involve compromise of some sort.
He made an entire video on abortion. Go watch it. Democratic policies tend to reduce abortions much more than republicans “abstinence only, overturn Roe” strategy.
While conservatives are not perfect, their policies do more to uplift the least of these, than the liberals. Liberals talk about caring about the least of these, but their policies tend to keep them down.
@@tommyliu7020 policies like defining people by the color of their skin rather that the content of their character? Redefining gender and breaking us the traditional family (fatherlessness is known by both live and cons researchers as the #1 predictor of incarceration and poverty), supporting abortion which disproportionately affects Blacks and other minorities, keeping us minorities? Overregulating businesses so that it is hard to start and grow a business, the number one way that people go from poverty to wealth. Teaching young black people to blame our problems on our race, which can't be changed, instead of taking responsibility and overcoming our hurtles. Incentivizing poverty, through a welfare system that punishes success, and provides a standard of living just good enough to get by on. Acting as the thought police, destroying anyone who dates publically hold conservative views. Which of these policies that are hallmarks of the progressive movement do more to help people?
I’m Jewish and I love this. Do we care about this disadvantaged party or that disadvantaged party? Yes. I came here after seeing your video on why Black Christians and White Christians tend to vote differently which was, well, shockingly good. I also noted what you didn’t talk about. You didn’t indicate that the world was ending because of pronouns. Love God and Help Those Who Need Help. Perfect primary criteria. Perfect place to focus. If that’s your central message you’re doing great. If it’s not your central message you’re getting it wrong. And remember whose criteria are primary. Jesus’, not Paul’s. For a variety of reasons including life cycle events of friends and the Christian family I married into, music (performing and listening), and business, I’ve been in a lot of church parking lots. I’ll tell you what I’ve never seen in any of them: A WWPD bumper sticker.
I think Mr. Vischer and I have a fundamental ideological disagreement. I don’t think it is the American government’s job to take care of people. It is the church’s job. I don’t feel obligated to vote for a policy that will “help” disadvantaged people because I don’t think governments do a very good job of helping people in the first place. I do feel called by God to give my time, money, and resources to private organizations that help people, especially Christian organizations that are the hands and feet of Jesus. Human governments will never be the hands and feet of Jesus. They will never help disadvantaged people in Jesus name, and it’s not their responsibility to do so. I vote that the government will get out of the way and let the church do her job. I don’t begrudge Christians who vote to have their government do the church’s job, but I would like to bring awareness to this aspect of the issue. If I vote against a policy that “helps” disadvantaged people, it’s not because I don’t love those people and feel they need help. It’s because the government is really bad at helping people, ridiculously inefficient, and, in my opinion, it isn’t their job in the first place. I believe this ideological differences about the role of government in society is the primary reason two Christians can learn and pray about the issues facing our world, and still vote differently. And maybe that’s okay. As long as you’re still my brother/sister in Christ, we are family, and family doesn’t have to all vote the same way, right?
"Human governments will never be the hands and feet of Jesus. They will never help disadvantaged people in Jesus name, and it’s not their responsibility to do so." So by this logic, you should be cool with the government funding abortion, since it's not the government's responsibility to help disadvantaged people.
We make up the government, so they are one in the same. Biblical stories only speak of monarchies and theocracies, where the people and government are separate. But now we live in a democratic republic where we choose each other to represent us in government. So we are the government. And we can help more people together as a government than we can individually. If we still lived under a king, what you're saying would be true. But America never had a king, so the government was never separate from us.
I agree...but the church has failed miserably in some areas of ministering to the 'least of these.' One example is prison ministry. I remember Chuck Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship, stating that back in the 70s, the church was woefully absent from prison ministry. However, Muslims were not, which is how the Black Muslim movement began as many black prisoners responded to the Muslim presence in prison. Now there are many Christian prison ministries but the church missed a huge chance of reaching lost souls because we, for whatever reason, did not seek to minister to those in prison.
How should we as Christians vote? We should always keep in mind that Politics is a Man/Woman construct and as such. Is subject to the flaws of Man/Woman.
I love this RUclips channel..here is the thing, after reading Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell, it seems like the liberal policies that meant to help the poor and voiceless, tend to actually foment more poverty. Historically, the more free a market is from government influence, the better it is for the poor...I struggle deeply with this. I just feel like that increasing taxes and telling us that our taxes are going to the poor, yet in reality they go to wasteful programs isn't exactly a Christian ideal.
You’re just wrong on economics, but at least you have a good heart. I pray you will come to learn liberal economics are much better than naked capitalism.
I noticed Tim Kellers' work on Biblical justice is included in the credits...I have listened to his sermons on justice (and related topics) over and over again. The Biblical concept of societal "Shalom" as the ancient Hebrews understood it is particularly compelling.
What does my willingness to disadvantage myself to advantage my community and my being charitable and generous to the least of these have to do with the government and voting? Christ calls me to love my neighbor, not to make the government to write laws that make me love my neighbor.
Amen, and again I say amen, Phil! I have spent much time in the book of Proverbs over the past four years. I believe the book of Proverbs is a wake-up call for the church today! I'm 61 years old and have been a registered republican throughout most of my life until 2018 when I registered as an independent. As a follower of Jesus, it is evident that Donald Trump is not the choice for me. I know this puts me on the outside of mainstream evangelical thinking. However, the Pro-life issue is so much more than just the unborn. Have we forgotten the biggest pro-life issue is where someone decides to spend eternity; this is what matters most to our savior. When I think about the more than 220,000 people who have died from covid in the US, I wonder how many of them died, not knowing Jesus! I also think about the children at our border in cages separated from their parents. How many of these will we be willing to trade for the unborn? They at least go to spend eternity with our Lord, and "Pro Grace" is the answer to this topic. Finally, think about the thousands and thousands of lost souls who now don't want anything to do with the gospel because of a hypocritical church that defends a political party of arrogance, anger, hatred, bigotry, cruelty, and lies a stark contrast to the fruit of the spirit. My heart is genuinely saddened to think about the witness the church at large has had recently! Christians should be reflecting the character of Christ instead of reflecting the character of the current president! I pray for Christians all across our nation to make the right choice for 2020!
I feel the same as you. Pro life encompass ALL LIFE. I agree with you 💯 👍. We'll just have to keep praying and demonstrating the true love of Jesus to this fallen world. If only they'd put as much passion into saving lost souls as they do protesting against wearing a mask. They're more worried about losing their rights and holding on to their assault weapons than they are for some lost soul's eternal life. It's sad and it's painful to see. GOD BLESS US ALL❤🙏🏾
You speak straight from my soul! I am a born-again Christian 66-year-old scientist from Germany and I feel this mutual dislike, this hatred between "Red" and "Blue" wherever I go in American blogs. There is a blatant pretense that it is "only" about abortion. An emotionally whipped up ambiance is no longer able to follow the reason of the heart. And why? Because people are no longer willing to let themselves be purified by Christ in a necessary transformation process. Before their senses and intellect have even begun to undergo this divine operation east of Eden, they begin to spread their foolishness at the top of their voices. John of the Cross called this spiritual gluttony. Read about his ascent to Mount Carmel. A good introduction is Sarah Coakley's RUclips contributions on this topic. The actual Divine Grace is something we take in passively, yes, passively, in a process of poured in Divine contemplation. During this time, all our forward rushing activities of our senses and active minds have to stop! And that hurts because during this time all the comforts of the soul that we have come to love so dearly, such as confirmation, recognition, etc., are absent. This is frustrating. And yet everything happens out of pure divine love. The Lord knows best how bad it can be to fall into HIS hands completely unpurified. Many "Reds" and "Blues" are currently, unfortunately, going the way: el Camino del Espiritu imperfecto, hopefully not even worse: el Camino de Spiritu errado. Not until the top of the: Senda estrecha de la perfeccion on the top of the mountain, we are physically and mentally so far renewed that we as the bride can unite with the bridegroom Jesus. And you, Sandy, have given a very similar answer here with Pro-Grace in a shortened form. PS: It is comparatively comforting to get involved in Christian conservative blogs of the Canadians.
You need to put each side on a scale. If you're a single issue voter over abortion, you'll tolerate any number of potentially greater evils in the process.
Y'all should watch his video on preventing abortions. It's more complicated than most people think, and simply banning abortion isn't really the best way about it.
What's most telling is that lawmakers, for all their clamoring on abortion are notoriously silent on the subject of IVF, which disposes of tens of thousands of fertilized embryos (aka children) per year. Pro-life isn't really about life as it is about control, because pro-life individuals often rationalize IVF since it apparently gives opportunities for creating a life where there was none previously (regardless of how many embryos die in the process.)
Your definition of “righteous” (taken out of context) is flawed. The biblical righteous are those in good standing with God which is only born again believers who put their trust in the finished work of Christ on the cross. The rest of the world are at enmity with God and trusting themselves (self-righteous) and trusting in their own works. You twist the definition of righteous to give yourself leeway to push a social work BLM gospel. Just my humble opinion.
You may have missed the quotation marks around those two sentences. What you perceive as ideology is actually biblical scholarship. Of course, you're free to hold an opposing political stance. But in terms of actual biblical theology, what you propose as a definition doesn't make any sense in an OT context. OT theology is largely centered around the concept of communal justice, like it or not.
I'm pretty sure old Phil is voting for Joe Biden, because Bernie is not on the ballot. He tries to sell himself as above politics and a moderate, but if you look at the guests and the ideas they are promoting on the Holy Post Podcast it leans decidedly left. Phil is ok if you vote for Brian Carroll because you wouldn't be voting for Trump: and that is his end game.
@@gusdad4811 you’re probably correct. I was just pointing out that if you take what Phil actually says in this video to heart you’d have to vote for Carroll because neither Biden or Trump fit.
I really don't like how you seemed to put such little value on the unborn, to me this is the key issue every time we vote, as they truly are the ONLY group that has NO voice; I like how you point out we need to let go of party loyalties, we can not find our hope in this world, or it's governments, only hope that our vote can provide us the freedoms in this world to love those as God has commanded. I do agree all in that group of people you listed deserve our love and that as Americans we are blessed and should be using our blessing to show God's love to others.
You should watch his video about abortion. You will see that no matter how much Christians vote for Republicans on this single issue (as many white Christians have been doing since Roe v. Wade) Republican politicians and court have NOT kpet up their end. That's been going on for nearly 50 years! And they have had ample opportunity to strike it down if they wanted to but all they want is your vote to keep them in power while they pander to the narrative about abortion. You should really check out the video. Very eye-opening
He's a reluctant Biden voter I think, he's the brand of christian that is conflicted by how neither party really reflects all Christian values but is repulsed by Trump.
This. I don't vote according to party. We need to do away with the 2-party system altogether. Every politician is thinking about how manipulate their party into voting for them, not how to solve the problems they themselves have caused.

righty, so, i'm an atheist far-leftist who stumbled on this video accidentally. i just wanted to stop by and say, i really appreciated this video. even in progressive communities it's rare to see people acknowledge the worldwide role of america's politics, so i really appreciated you talking about that (my family being refugees from a country bombed by america). the history lesson was well researched and really important, and your rejection of ideology for values was a breath of fresh air compared to the partisanship i see in lots of evangelicals. even though i have different values, i respect people who follow their values rather than their fears or their wallets and i respect you for presenting that position to your audience.
finally, to the americans thinking about who to vote for, let me say this: neither biden nor trump are the answer. labor unions and community organisations are. your churches and workplaces are the best place to start working for change. housing the homeless, feeding the hungry, standing up against the people who want to hold you down. act your values. go out and help people. it'll do so much more than a vote (though, sure, still vote).
Welcome!
Though, I completely disagree with you on labor unions.
It is like paying "protection money" to the mob.
Jesus loves you!! ❤️

Thanks...)
Well, the democrats more line up with christianity. God didn't say to force your faith down their throats, but that's exactly what the right is doing.
This is definitely the part that stood out to me the most in this video.
Yes‼️
So what will disadvantage the community?
So basically Biden = Bigger Government and Trump = Bigger Economy
Now some might think bigger government is better for our community so it is worth the disadvantage.
That is when I ask each and everyone who cares enough to look into the policies that will most likely be enforced.
More than likely if Biden wins he will allow government funding to health facilities that perform abortions. Including Late Term Abortion (Trump stopped that)
Beware of the smooth talkers with forked tongues. Do your research. As Christian ✝️ on different paths I am sure what is important to you will vary from me. Regardless of who you vote for.

I could write a book, but I am stopping here.
Agreed. Modern day conservatism is far too selfish. God can look after his religion. We should consider our own faith and living by it.
Amen
“He would throw both tables out of the temple.” YES!!!!
@jason thomas "Abortion" isn't on the ballot though. People are.

Love your Answer! Agreed. In the same boat.
You're a brave man. Consider me another ally. I feel the same way.
@Joseph Logsdon
I agree with a lot of what you're saying.

Abortion has been with us since the beginning of time and will not go away.
AMEN
Dose not that appear as characteristics of an ambassador...Now when the
United States of America sends an ambassador to France or any other foreign country dose America send that person to push France or that countries interest or America..

I find your videos accurate and honest. That is refreshing. Thanks for being a truth teller.
Learning and praying is great. Matching up our ideals according to the expressed written word of God is also a must.
Well said.
Whose
" church" are you referring to? Look at all of the outreach done by all different denominations throughout our country, in every town, everywhere. I was the missions director at our church, and our outreach was to foreign missions, as well as local missions. Human needs were being met locally and worldwide. MANY, MANY other churches do the same. So abortion wasn't even addressed other than joining the 'walk for life" for any church to participate in. So, the Majority of our outreach DID address the other least of these. So please do not make a statement like that with the lack of info to prove it.

Church organizations are equally prone to corruption and mismanagement as government, if not more so.
#Experience
That's assuming agree with the analysis the government always runs things poorly
@@SonicBoomC98 True
If you want to reduce abortion rates, then vote for the party that will
1) promote sex ed and knowledge of contraceptives
2) make contraceptives easily available (possibly making them free or heavily subsidized)
3) provide free maternity care/health care
4) provide financial support for raising children
Points 1 and 2 will reduce demand for abortions by preventing accidental pregnancies in the first place.
@@Deslung vischer is voting for Biden/Harris. No secret here.

@@michaelganovski7077 No, actually he has specifically stated on his podcast that he is voting third party, he doesn't specify which candidate though.
How should we vote? Privately.
(Russell Kirk's treatise on why he's a conservative.)
And for these reasons, I am not.
You’re on the same page
If the churches were taking care of the poor and widowed, etc, the government wouldn’t have to have stepped in.
I can't vote for abortion, same sex marriage, gender mutilation of children, or reverse racism. So tell me, what's so important on the other side to outweigh all of that?
I thank God for these programs.
Just came across this channel......... you know those videos that cause you to wish everyone could watch it? This is it!!
The bible does not say the the government should be serving any of these people but we the church should.
@@spencerbixby7819 yes we have the ability to help these people without governments interference.

This is a great breakdown of the issues around faith and politics. I don't agree with all of your points, but I'm not so self righteous as to believe I'm always right either. God bless, and keep striving to call Christians back to following Christ, rather than some other ideology.
Thank you so much, Mr. Vischer. I really appreciate these videos that you've been making.
Thank you.
Love this, this is such an underrated channel!
I belief that political views shouldn’t be mix with religion. Jesus name shouldn’t be in the same sentence. Like you said that “Jesus would throw both tables out of the temple.”
Phil: “I believe in you”
Me: “We’re doomed”
👍👍
Believe in scripture. Phil can't save you.

Those who disregard Matthew 25, where Jesus was very clear about our roles as His Followers
and also in 1 John 4 which gives pointed instructions about LOVE, from God Who IS LOVE - they will be held accountable for choosing to worship at the feet of hate, bigotry, greed, selfishness and false doctrine.
Our job is to serve God👑
by loving Him and one another. PERIOD!💯💜💯

@@michaelalbertson7457 Yup, I guessed right. You're a Trump supporter.
- Matthew 5:16
Everything you espouse outside of God's Word is pure conjecture and opinion. Have you ever heard of a reprobate mind? That is what happens to continuous denial of truth, a hard heart and a hard head. The Bible also speaks of many will come before the Lord Jesus saying, "Lord, Lord... But I will tell them, "I will have nothing to do with you! Get out of my sight, you evil people!"
Another translation says,
And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; "DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS." Is that not what we have been witnessing?!!!
Thank you Phil. Love your balanced and biblical insight.
Even though I'm an atheist I'll admit you're one of the smartest Christian I have met.
Phil can you run for president? I would totally vote for you! And Bob the tomato LOL. This was so helpful!
i hope not!
While conservatives are not perfect, their policies do more to uplift the least of these, than the liberals. Liberals talk about caring about the least of these, but their policies tend to keep them down.
You are 100% wrong. Progressive policies he,o much more.
I’ll tell you what I’ve never seen in any of them:
A WWPD bumper sticker.
Agree wholeheartedly!
"Human governments will never be the hands and feet of Jesus. They will never help disadvantaged people in Jesus name, and it’s not their responsibility to do so."
So by this logic, you should be cool with the government funding abortion, since it's not the government's responsibility to help disadvantaged people.
@@lindadodson1586 probably because most of the people in prison are already Christians. Black Muslims were converting Christians.
@@tommyliu7020 although I believe in the power of prayer, perhaps a discussion would also help...how am I wrong?
I love that Bob the Tomato is tackling Christianity in politics. Seriously though, thank you, Phil!
Nailed it again. Thank you Phil for consistently pointing us, young and old, back to our identities as Jesus followers.
I noticed Tim Kellers' work on Biblical justice is included in the credits...I have listened to his sermons on justice (and related topics) over and over again. The Biblical concept of societal "Shalom" as the ancient Hebrews understood it is particularly compelling.
I'd be curious to see how AD Robles bashes you this time.

AMEN!!!
@Ontrend50: May I add another amen?
Your comment is refreshing! I am uplifted to see there is still Christians that think beyond their political views! May God continues to bless you!
Superbly done~!!! Thank you my Brother~!!!
You need to put each side on a scale. If you're a single issue voter over abortion, you'll tolerate any number of potentially greater evils in the process.
Mmmmmm...... is there a greater evil than Murder?
Y'all should watch his video on preventing abortions. It's more complicated than most people think, and simply banning abortion isn't really the best way about it.
@@qwaszx3561 Agreed. Much more to it than just saying "its banned". Lots services that need to be in place to help.

As a left leaning Christian, you handled this subject matter well. Thank you Phil Vischer.
He is every bit the leftist you are so of course you agree
BOB THE TOMATO IS WOKE
he is - he has moved left - emergent like.
Wow!!!! Phil, you are on to something and we need to take notice!!
This shouldn't be as radical as it sounds, but it is. Preach it, Phil.

Good stuff! Just one question: shouldn't we also consider character, not just policy?
I really don't like how you seemed to put such little value on the unborn, to me this is the key issue every time we vote, as they truly are the ONLY group that has NO voice; I like how you point out we need to let go of party loyalties, we can not find our hope in this world, or it's governments, only hope that our vote can provide us the freedoms in this world to love those as God has commanded. I do agree all in that group of people you listed deserve our love and that as Americans we are blessed and should be using our blessing to show God's love to others.
Thanks for sharing. My pastor recommended this video. Can't believe that he did. Really disappointed.

This. I don't vote according to party. We need to do away with the 2-party system altogether. It has done nothing but divide us on issues most of us actually could come together and agree on if we didn't have these biases. Every politician is thinking about how manipulate their party into voting for them, not how to solve the problems they themselves have caused.
