- In this video I install the portal axle kit on our Danchee Ridgerock rock crawler! This is a $38 upgrade from Redcat that results in a significant increase in ground clearance, which is an area where I have struggled with the ridgerock. In addition to the axle kit, I toss on some 2.2" Proline Hyrax tires. What should we do next?!

Okay, you asked me so here goes 3s Lipo ▪︎ Spektrum Smart Batt.1300mah 11.1v I've been running this battery for several years in the Ridgerock, and my Capra (highly recommend) tires Mud Slinger XL 2.2 looks like Boggers super sticky ..... Harley doubted me but I've had no problems and over 45min runtime. Thx for the video!! P.S. the tires fit the stock Ridgerock bead locks great 👍
This was my first rc. Got a 2nd one to build it to another chassis and include the portals. Best value for the money compared to all other rtrs. Glad redcat did this for it.
For links it's the e10 and code 18084
Servos there are a 2 pack of 25kg
Tires need to be smaller like the injora 106mm pins with soft inserts and minimal offset to reduce that scrub radius otherwise tires will rub on shocks.
90mm shocks as there is already too much clearance with 50+ WT oil and softer springs.
This crawler is definitely on the top of my list!
Thats what I'm using redcat everest front n rear links . Fit perfectly . With the deep woods tires this thing is unstoppable
Im using the duratrax deepwoods cr tires. Huge improvement. Everything else is still stock. Except I put front n rear links
I put Mrs gears in the front and left plastic to give more forward weight. If those strip I'll replace those with the plastic ones from the front.
The links from the Everest 10 will fit on it perfect. I had one I upgraded and it was awesome. Hate I got rid of it now!
With the portals, can we now put underdrive gears in the rear?
We strip the gear twice in the axels now they have the metal gear upgrade now and it gave more weight.
Hey bud nice video as always. You know you can give this rig a tummy tug and also make some high clearance links out of some aluminium pipe and threaded rod than put some inner springs in it and you bring the centre of gravity down. Hope that helps🤘🤘🤘
Redcat everest 10 high clearance links fit it
Yes but 2 portal serts cost more than half the price of the car...also, i think they are gonna make the hubs more prone to damage and last less. Money on this rc should be put on good tires, metal links and some free mods available too. Mine has many many hours of rock crwling and incredibly nothing ever failed, except a loose mini screw of the front axle ultra cheap to replace. Even plastic metal gears are more than enough for a high C rate 2s lipo
1 set completes both axles. EZ money
I would love to see more ridge rock content, I bought myself one from Summit Racing because it’s cool. Then I found the SCX24’s and bought that instead. My Ridgerock return some how didn’t go through…ooopsy. Figured my daughter would like it, she has no interest at all. Guess I need to make it funner “for her”
i am putting on the new portals but you didn't show how you split the axle around the motor, the ends of the driveshafts have pins that dont come out
You plan to eventually get sum hardpark builds here? Like the dementor and 1.8" wheels
Thanks for the video. Where is “crawler heaven” located? Fort Phoenix is awesome like you said, but would love to find the outdoor courses you use.
It’s in Yarmouth, on the cape. Old sand pit near Deb’s Way
Thank you!
Whats the diff between the ridgerock and the ridgerunner? The truck looks more equipped
The ridgerock has way more flex. I think they have different chassis and shock setups.
How was the instruction was it a good manual if u will lol 😆 thanks for sharing 👍
As far as I can tell, this portal kit seems to turn these into the axles that come on the Ridgerunner.
Does the ridge runner come with portals? I haven’t even looked
Ad more to the crawler cors like mini moad
Can anybody tell me if they make overdrive gears for Ridge rock portal axles?
I personally have not seen them. As a side note, I snapped by axle shaft recently and will be going back to straight axles
I had a ridgerock as my first crawler. The Facebook page has a pdf at the top of the page with all the mods you can do to it. The belly cut mod helps. I ran 2 1080 esc and ran dig like exocage rc. I also had the everest 10 high clearance links, 35kg servos and 2.2s. I ended up sellin it because of the plastic gears. They hadn't released the metal ones. Kinda wanna build another one now that I'm more experienced
my ridgerock controller has throttle and steering reverse.......
So does mine and I realized that after I installed the axles. The note about swapping axles in the instructions makes no sense 🤣
Personally I'd rather have the motor in the center of the rig, rather than the motor on axle idea, imo.
I find motor on axle build very interesting I'm glad there are some more on the market
I kind of think the same but, having more weight over the axles/wheels helps with traction and stability
That is the main advantage of this rc over the competition. Motor on axles removes torq twist, less maintenance, power direct to the wheel without losing power in the driveshafts, lower centre of gravity. Only loses on axle ground clearance and scale looks.
