Yeah John Higgins gets away with it after being filmed and Steven Lee gets a life ban, totally unfair
I agree with u , absolutely injustice ..Lee would of won more event , even would champion all probably ,and uk too
Incorrect. Higgins agreed to fix a match but didn’t. Lee was judged to have fixed several matches, very different. Higgins was charged €75,000 and got a 6 months ban.
@@johnmc3862 yeah but would have gone on to fix matches had he not been exposed
@@FaisalB-no8gc totally agree, he was awesome
You're not guilty of anything until after the offence.
In number 10, when Higgins and opponent shake hands, game is over, no matter where the cue ball goes anymore.
Indeed, Higgins missed it.
D handshake.......it no valid ,they no spit on they hand.
When you shake someone’s hand that’s not saying you’ve conceded because you’ve got to say the words I concede
When dott stopped the cue ball surely that's a deliberate foul that should be frame over.?
Precisely! That is my understanding as well. As for Higgins "cheating"? Given his sense of humour, I suspect he was just leading these journalists on a wild goose chase, but they were too stupid to realize he was having a laugh at them.
The handshake on the first Higgins clip is basically the end of match.
\I'd have thought so too.
Indeed. Surprised Higgins actually missed it.
Higgins got away with it.
And Ronnie too , 1998 against Ken Doherty final , on drug test failing
He didn’t, he only agreed to fix a match. Unlike Lee who actually fixed several matches . Higgins got a 6 month ban and £75’000 fine and £10’000 in costs.
Ronnie gave the prize money back and Ken was declared winner of the Irish masters.
This video didn't really explain any of the controversies well for the uninitiated. Anyway, no.1, the last incident, is for me the only significant one. Unmentioned in the video is that the incident took place in Ukraine, where there is no snooker. Higgins & his manager travelled all the way there just for this meeting. During it, Higgins explained how easy it is to miss a shot without arousing suspicion, and went on to exclaim that proceeds from this cheating agreement would enable him to pay off his mortgage. When all was later revealed, Higgins manager was banned for life while Higgins himself got a slap on the wrist. I'm sorry, but ever since, I cannot bear to watch Higgins play.
Alain Robidoux's comments aged like milk. Ronnie could probably beat them all left handed.
Great video. Totally agree with you on you Dott-Selby comment, Dott should of just potted the white. Plus if Higgins said he was scared and said he would have anything to get out the meeting. Why didn't he instantly tell the authorities what happened, instead of waiting for it to come out in the paper.
*should have
@@randomrandomizer The Foul & a Miss rule prevents deliberate misses (regardless of scores) so if Dott had knocked the cue ball in, the referee would have understood the gesture, called F&M & I am sure nothing further would have happened.
A sensible thing happened after this incident: the rule for "Ball forced off the table" has been updated because of it, so if this was to occur again, it would now be ball in hand. A good referee (& certainly all those you see on TV) will then pick up the cue ball & place it on the cushion as if it had been pocketed.
People keep saying that Higgins is so honorable and a true ambassador...😂😂😂😂😂
It's the same mentality that want roman Polanski to be free just because he's a great film maker.
If anyone other than the top 5 players get caught on that video, they are gone for life. Probably even top 10.
Hearn is about money, at all costs. He's a promoter! That's good f'ing job. He makes money when the support sells tickets and when his players make money. He double dips and he's allowed to get away with it.
Higgins was never going to be convicted, even if he was caught losing to a club player Even if a video came out saying that he was going to lose to a club player
Nobody has said that. Ever.
If higgins was just saying anything to get out of the meeting, why would he not then report them straight away?
He only turned around because Higgins called loud "congratulation", otherwise the foul wouldn't happen.
Stephen Lee should have been number 2 and the list of Chinese players that got banned should be number 1.
Another controversy for you.
Why did John Higgins only get a 6 month ban for "match fixing" but Stephen Lee was banned for 12 YEARS.
Is it because Stephen Lee wasn't such a big draw as John Higgins.
Stephen lee had the best cue action ive ever seen, and that include Ronnie. But watch the video impartially and look at John Higgens body language and then make the call
Number 9 doesn't belong on the list. Robidoux made a mockery of the game and got what he deserved. Ronnie has worked very hard to get just as good with his left hand as with his right, and he can use it whenever he wants.
Re Dott stopping white from fouling. Interference of any ball "on the table" is an instant foul. Dotts action was actually unsportsmanlike conduct and should have been treated as such. In saying that, Selby should have waited for the referees conclusion and not touched the white.
I thought the same. I think the ref is right in his idea, but surely wrong for not warning dott for unsportsmanlike conduct?
@@sam29mill2 The ref applied the rules correctly & the rules state quite clearly that he is not allowed to warn a player that they are about to foul.
The rules have since been updated so that a ball touched in this way is considered to have been forced off the table.
There is no rule worded like that but there is a rule about referees making decisions in the interest of fair play which could and should reach the same outcome
I remember the Cliff Thorburn thing with the Green. As I recall he did nominate the Green but the ref never heard him. 👍
A player still has to nominate a colour if it's not obvious
What about the Stephen Lee case?
Last time when i search channels to watch snooker but if i saw Peter ebdon playing, i changed back the channel to watch other than snooker
We can never forget John Higgins & Steven Lee`s Match rigging.
Higgins should have got a 12 year ban
No he shouldn’t. Higgins only agreed to do it but actually didn’t do anything. He got a 6 months ban and £75,000 plus £10,000 in costs. Lees cheating was on different scale altogether.
@@johnmc3862 still had intent !
Stephen Lee has served enough time off now... get him back on the baize with that Rolls Royce cue action!
Thanks for the vid. Robidoux's annoyance at Ronnie playing left-handed was because back then it was considered unsportsmanlike and disrespectful. But the game has moved on since.
Could you boost the audio of the third party clips next time? They were hard to hear.
Yes, but I get the feeling that Robidoux would not have been nearly so annoyed had Ronnie not made him look like a beginner.
Number 10: Technically Sijun fouled on the final black by leaving the rest on the table and allowing the cue ball to touch it, despite having otherwise played a winning shot, so Higgins should have been awarded 7 penalty points and the frame ended there, unless the 7 penalty points levelled the scores, in which case the black should have been respotted. However the referee didn't call the foul, and it might have been seen as against the spirit of the game had Higgins insisted on the foul being called, which he could have done had he seen it himself.
Technically the game was over before the cue ball hit the rest.
It's like the most civilized controversy in the world.
If we did this in America, there would be metal detectors at the door.
Wait. There are probably metal detectors at the door regardless here.
Common sense should prevail. When the cue ball was stopped by hand, and was obviously going in pocket. It should be classed as a foul. It was a bad rule
& indeed it has. Although the referee was entirely correct in this incident, the rules have since been changed so a ball touched in this way is considered to have been "forced off the table".
Erm. Quinten Hann threatening Andy Hicks after he lost a match?
Seen thorburns green quite a few times, be very unlikely cliff wouldn't of nominated as he's as professional as you get, he did walk out of the arena to check on something and when returned he told Alex he couldn't use his cue extention again that he was using, and cliff did say something before the shot I'm pretty sure he just didn't say it loud enough
Im sure he nominated the green. His only mistake was playing the shot without hearing the ref repeat, "green ball."
If you go to the video of the incident (also on YT), you can clearly hear Thorburn say "green".
What about when Ronnie overhit the white by half an inch and couldn't hit the black then had multiple misses, then fouled his hand on the black but it wasn't called a miss so Higgins couldn't replace the balls. It suggested that a player could just touch a ball and it couldn't be called a miss because a shot wasn't played.
Looked like the shot you highlighted was right handed?
#1 If "rules are rules", then it still should be fine since his opponent resigned.
Agreed
When I play pool down the pub with some mates it's not uncommon to hear me say, "I didn't see that" or "Take that again".... but when I play snooker with friends I stick to the rules religiously as do they.
Thanks for sharing as I hadn't seen some of those before, like the Selby foul. 👍
8:35 That was my first thought when I first saw this, until I realised that that would be a foul and a miss. The cue ball would be replaced giving Dott two further chances to 'deliberately' play a legal shot.
Ronnie plays left handed all the time. He is very gifted that way. I watched him enter a pool hall, play exclusively left handed, and he beat everyone who challenged him. The guy it’s incredible.
Good and selection and commentary.
To be honest, Alex Higgins was probably too drunk to notice whether Cliff had called the Green or not
Quinten Hann
I have never understood why Clare Balding is used as a sports guru. She has never done anything.
The concede was odd but an option. Any match fixing has to be top spot for shenanigans tho.
No I agree with the video, considering the stage of the tournament it wasn't as important compared to the other examples
The Steve Dais beating Higgins in 2010 was the biggest shock ever i am almost certain a few people put on a few quid for a shock result
Keep it up
I assume that this video was made some time before the 2 days ago it was posted as the number one today wold be the massive match fixing scandal by 10 (was it) of the Chinese players including 2 in the top 16. 2 of them have been banned for life I think.
and you missed Quinten Hann as well 😀
Missed the moment that STEPHEN LEE bought a Big Mac meal into the crucible
At number 5 one can argue the the ball did leave the bed of the table. It was up in the air a few MM. However when Mark moved the ball in to the "D",he slided it on the bed of the table.
Yeah higgins got off scot free, but Stephen lee was banned for 12 years
Number 10 is crazy
I dont get the cleaning the ball issue. Wasn't the ref in the right? If he was trying to hit the brown and it was just behind, then he was trying to get an advantage right?
1:30 that's right handed.
Higgins, wow he got away with so much. Chinese players were hammered. Fair?
There's a reason News of the World is gone.
You missed that shocking moment when Steve Davis grabbed Dennis Taylor's glasses from his face, then stamped on them, then threw them up in the air and volleyed them into the crowd. Dennis Taylor was furious and put Steve Davis in a headlock, just before the camera switched to the studio.
Every game the bent players were involved with should be declared void and all money returned to there victims who bet on the bent bastards
No Stephen Lee??
No mention of Stephen Lee?
Must be in another video..... criminals of snooker!!
Yeah higgins should have been banned for life.
When Taylor and Davis met in the Black Ball final I believe Taylor had just joined (Or signed up to join) Hearn's Matchroom team.
Davis was winning everything at the time and boring the pants of viewers so a loss would make the game (and Steve) more watchable and at the same time add to the popularity Of Dennis.
So - two Matchroom players managed by BH and the ideal result and a massively entertaining game.
Maybe I'm totally wrong here. but Steve's reaction to his loss looked like terrible OTT acting.
Hmmmm.
Is Stephen Lee's ban not up soon? I wonder if he will return to the table. I know he was a cheat, but he really did have the best cue action out the lot of them. Higgins got away with that too. Double standards.
How about Stephen Lee?
I lost respect for Dott after he did that, although Chamberlain was right within the rules he coukd have used discretion
How's selbys 6 minute shot not on this list
thought Cliff Thorburn very unlucky. I'm sure he would've nominated green.
trailerpark948. he did nominate the green actually. I'm sure Hiiggins heard it. I did.
@@barflytom3273 very much in agreement with you.
The rule is to nominate if its not obvious ..
How about when steven Lee got banned for match fixing ?? Much longer ban then Higgins
stephen lee?
Hot pot dott knew exactly what he was doing 😂
What about Stephen Lee and his match fixing?
the conclusion is fixed not controversial
I think the Patsy Fagan incident in the 1982 World Championship was worthy of inclusion O'Sullivan playing left handed shouldn't have been on the list.
Love and miss Alan Chamberlain. Lovely guy IRL but absolute lawful evil when working 🤣
I don’t really think his case is strengthened by the News of the World collapsing.
That is irrelevant.
amazing
Peter Ebdon should’ve been banned from playing professional snooker for deliberately taking ages on every shot he should’ve been banned for life Peter Ebdon was a cheat. !!
@4:56 that's nothing to do with nominating a colour!
Great video but missed out Stephen lee
How do u only have 26 subs?!?! u deserves way more
Stephen Lee
What about when Ronnie played Stuart Bingham and used the chalk to see if the white ball had enough room to hit the black, it should have been a 7 point foul
Yep higgings the cheat never liked him still don't.
This is a weird sport
Referees don't nominate colours if they are unsure what is been played. Players have the responsibility to make clear what their nominated colour is. The referee only repeats what the player has nominated verbally. The repetition is for the player to confirm that the referee has heard the call. Since in the clip, the referee didn't hear the player's nomination, and it wasn't otherwise clear, the foul is seven points according to the rules. It's not something the referee just decides because he wants to be harsh.
zeizei6th. good point. he should have made sure the ref repeated his call, even though he did nominate green ball.
Ronnie wasn't charged at all, Alain robidoux said he was being disrespectful for playing left handed, which of course he wasn't, he was just jealous of the talent,
There was disciplinary hearing after the match. You should check your facts haha
@@kwesi46victory for you there champ
@@kwesi46but ronnie was let off
Missed the Stephen Lee match fixing
the conclusion is fixed not controversial
Barry Hearn should not be getting involved in what players do on the table, he’s a promoter , he doesn’t own these players, he knows nothing bout the game, same as his son in boxing, , there full of crap, 😂🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️☘️
These are your opinions, so I say, I don’t give a crap!
Your talking Balls,on number 3 your theory does not make sense,if it wasn't the referees fault for not hearing it, how can it be Alexanders fault either and saying unsporting behaviour, when absolutely no proof.. 😅
"Joining something bigger than yourself" get over yourself mate.
Dott not intentionally fouling and returning the ball to Selby was really poor form.
A deliberate foul would have been a foul and a miss. Ball replaced for Dott to have two more attempts at a 'deliberately' legal shot.
This poster is awful 😮
You missed out Stephen lee
The rest was only left on the table because of the distraction of conceding. Ronnie should of donated the 147 prize money to charity, it might of made his point stronger and make him look good instead of greedy, well the ref could of and should've cleaned the ball in a way that only move the ball deeper into a snooker, he just needed to put the marker down on the side to a disadvantage, yes unsportsmanship of Dot, missed an opportunity to make himself look good, a silly rule though, a player could stop the ball on the edge before dropping into the pocket, leaving it in a position of no advantage and only giving 4 points away, taking too long is not fare on the paying public, looks like it backfired anyhow, only made 12, Ronnie made a 147 in 5 minutes, very silly of the ref to call a miss and bad of Higgins to take the points and the advantage, It didn't look like a push shot to me because the ball spun back, it did look like it took a kick though, Higgins should of been banned for life.
Should have not of
So many mistakes. In the clip, Ronnie is using his right hand. The prize for a 147 was never £147,000 at snap tournaments like the Welsh Open. The referee did not call a "miss" in the Alex Higgins game, as the miss rule didn't exist then.
The video would be much better if we didnt have to listen your dribble.
Huh? He just explained what's going on
Congratulations on having no idea of the rules except a couple or one of your examples ...." You a self claimed Snooker Expert" as a A Grade Referee and before retiring i can and agree with you that at best you may have one example correct . and one that is debate able correct but failed on all others
We might have to check on your " A grade referee card" hahaha. Have a nice evening Robert the ref
