Don't forget Fred Smith (Television), Graham Maby (Joe Jackson), Sting (The Police, duh), Bruce Foxton (The Jam), Colin Moulding (XTC), and Bruce Thomas (Elvis Costello).
You must have forgotten those bands suck. Get fucked asshole
Graham Maby love is very awesome to see amazing player
This was great, dude. I'd totally watch you do deep dives into different bands. Like, a certain guitarist, or bassist, or drummer, or even the whole band. I know it's been done to death, but I cant get enough of other peoples opinions and enthusiasm. Nice work.
Thanks, I appreciate that. Might do more like this in the future!
Run it bro
Little bit unsolicited, but great advice I got from a fellow bassist...
When playing "A Forest" play it all on the top string, gives a much more consistent sound.
Love these videos.
Thanks for watching!
Not really punk, but I’ve seen the Blockheads categorised as post-punk; Norman Watt-Roy had some great basslines, such as “Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick”. He also recorded bass parts for some Clash songs.
Blockheads are great!
I played new boots and panties today. This came out in 1977 so I can’t call it post punk, maybe proto post punk.
@@kencratchley8697 I feel like that's a bit of an oxymoron, haha!
I don’t know what I thought this video was going to be like, but it definitely wasn’t this. Really great job.
Love me some Cigar, one of the best current skate punk bands
100% 🤘
Brian ritchie of the. Femmes is one of the most underrated bassists of all time, I’d say outside of slap bassists he’s one of the best of all time
I'm pretty much a metal guy but playing punk on bass helps with stamina and speed. Well for me at least.
Speed helps a lot with stamina.
Great video bro!
Thanks, really appreciate it!
What are the three songs where you take the bass out at the beginning? Great video!
Thanks! It's Lost In The Supermarket, Thrash Unreal and We Are The One.
RKL❤
🤘
what bass would you suggest to get a mark hoppus like sound and look?
I guess his signature would be ideal, but a p-,bass will nail that Enema / Take Off sound, as that's what they used for those records.
Something like a MM would be good if you want that earlier Dude Ranch sound too.
I did a deeper dive into that sound in this video, in case you're interested - ruclips.net/video/Dr6kQQLbFHA/видео.html
guys, what the song is playing at 0:20?
Anti-Flag - We Are The One
Do you know the Honest Dons band Limp and their albums Pop & Disorderly and Guitarded? Pls have a listen to their song "Passed out". Great video. Thanks.
Its also really cool that you have knowledge on the 80s era bands.
I do, they're a fun band!
What are you talking about? I'm a big fan of your channel but this... I have a hard time understanding. Punk rock is probably the style of music where the bassists are more known.
- Fat mike
-Matt Friedman
-#2
-Hoppus
-Sid ( if you want to call him a bassist)
-Dee Dee
-Paul Simonon
-Soto
-Only
-Jen Finch
Those are just extremely known ones. Perhaps it's pop punk you're talking about because I'm curious.
Again, thanks for the video's
-
That's probably because you're already a fan of punk. Outside of punk, a lot of those players aren't that well know. Just look at any "top 50/100" bassists list, and you'll rarely find any of those names mentioned.
@@SugarpillProd Yeah that's true. I'm basically a loner that works, then plays, records and mixes music so my feed is probably not the same as most 😂.
@@sidetrak85 Probably not 😂
PUNKEH! \m/
Hüsker Dü, a post-punk band?
Kinda, they came up around the boom of post-punk, not before. Though post-punk is a weird genre. I hear both The Smiths & Fugazi labeled as it, so it's not like there's really one unified sound to the sub-genre.
The Ergs! have the best pop punk bassist ever, but they're not well known and the bass is drowned in the mix in most of their songs. Sad!
I see them mentioned a surprising amount of times in my comments. Cool band though 🤘
Can you do brief history of emo bass?
Might do if there's enough interest!
NOFX released their first album in 1988, yet somehow Fat Mike is in the thumbnail for the 80s. JFC. He's a great example of 90s punk but has little to do with the oclusive bass riffing of the early 80s.
Where’s Bad Religion?
Again, *brief* 😂
There’s like a million punk bands, obviously he can’t name every one in a brief history
blink xdddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd
Lost in supermarket Punk rock? oh no...
Amazingly punk rock can be more than 3 chord songs 🤯
@@SugarpillProd but lost in supermarket is not Punk Rock, its new wave
@@INVESTIMENTOLUCRATIVO Umm you sure about that? I don't hear any synthesisers 😂
Youre only doing the mainstream stuff
Nomeansno and Minutemen are mainstream? That's news to me.
@@SugarpillProd i would say minutemen had become a little mainstream if people know jackass they know corona by minutemen but compared to other bands they aren't mainstream
@@mrzog994 True, though I wonder how many people know that song as Corona and not just the "Jackass" theme song, haha.
