Nice to see your interest about Muthuraajawela Marshi lands. Until the year 1600 AC , area was a huge paddy field. Dutch built the Hamilton canal (Which you rode the boat) on those days. This affected to increase the salt percentage of the soil and finally paddy fields were abandoned. This beach was a popular tourist destination between year1980-2000 AC. Now not that much. I am also living in this area...
Hello Rachelle.. I also thought it would have been nice to have a guide at the start of the video. But you seem to have a good knowledge of wild animals. From the videos I've seen so far on your channel in Sri Lanka, I feel you are more of an explorer than a tourist... You are passionate about the environment and wildlife... Now I understand why you chose the name Odyssey for your channel... 😀😀
Hey Kasun, yeah a guide would have given us even more information which would have been nice, but either way it was a very enjoyable boat ride! And that is so cool of you to say! I am glad that is how my videos come across, because that is more my intention! Thanks for watching! 😄
Oh wow... That was a sweet cruise across the negombo lagoon... Glad you had a closer look at the colourful kingfisher and the excitement and the joy you had after seeing the radiant kingfisher was all evident with your wild celebration and facial expressions.. 😮💞😘💖 Thanks and see you later with another interesting video.. "Gams" 💖🌹❤️
Next time visit koggala lagoon where there's a good bio diversity with crocs and so many birds .It's so spectacular than this and you can have english speaking boat guides as well. In the middle of that lagoon there''s an small island which you can stop your boat and have a awesome "kirala" drink.
@@talesofodyssey in here sri lanka we dont have that kind of management it should be but unfortunately we dont have but most of sri lankans not throwaway garbage to open environment but you know every country have that kind of peoples who never care about environment clean. Our ancestors did love to the nature every plant grow wild they use for medicines foods even some kind of grass as well so if you have much time find out few places and there is a place in MARADANKADAWALA near ANURADHAPURA there is a doctor healing broken bones without operating or cut. Only use things like tree leafs, roots, flowers, skins ext. peoples call welding doctor i saw it by my self his father heal a broken arm i few hours without money doctors father did it as charity service can you imagine
Nice vlogging If your interest is about nature and wetlands few km away from city centre you will find baththaramulla birds park and wetlands near New parliment. Also all the botanical gardens specially seethawaka gardens at Awissawella Colombo District, peradeniya gardens at KANDY, hakgala gardens and Horton plains at Nuwaraeliya District, sinharaja tropical rain forest at Rathnapura District, you will find beautiful fona and flora, and some are endemic only to Srilanka. Also for beautiful seanaries drive around reverseturn area haguranketha, walapane, kothmale Keep exploring and enjoying Srilanka
Awesome indeed I like your attitude because definitely we should care about environment as humans . We have given our full strength to protect wetland from the politicians. Love yu
Nice boat journey and only € 8.00 that's not expensive, the kingfisher is a beautifull bird, I saw a lot of them in Egypt sailing on the Nile, nice vlog! 🙏
In BKK Thailand there are monitor lizards in a supercentral public park, Lumphini. Would be interesting to go in the wetlands with a fisherman, they are gonna know the best spots and avoid the most popular and crowded ones. Plus, you would learn how they fish there.
Muthurajawela reserve has been shrinking rapidly over last few decades. However most of the land is abandoned rice crops due to increasing salinity. Then its a competition between the city government projects and the wilderness, where usually the city will win. There are walking trails in the marshland as well, you should be able to take a one for bird-spotting.
That is very unfortunate to hear… around the world I think we are losing our natural areas too rapidly 💔. And do you have more information on the walking paths for bird watching?😊
Hi Dear, I have been watching almost all of your videos and glad that you are having an awesome time here in Sri Lanka. I just wanted to recommend you to visit NUWARA ELIYA for some time. It is completely different atmosphere as we call it as Little England. Extremely cold weather with so many green agriculture sites and natural beauties. I guarantee that you'll feel it totally different from these townships and busy environments. Probably you might think that this is not a part of Sri Lanka. Strongly recommended. If you wish to have a peaceful and a beautiful place to stay I would recommend LITTLE ENGLAND COTTAGES to try out. Let me know your experience there. Good luck......!!
If you are staying longer in srilanka, go to old kingdom cities of anuradhapura or pollonnaruwa. These are the 2 oldest kingdoms of srilanka and one of the oldest and long reigned kingdoms in the world 1000 years each. If u go there and immerse your self propely you would be travelling back in time to the world of kings and queens. There are tons to see, it will take around a week, if you wanna cover all the old sites and ruins. Go and see for yourself why srilanka is so proud of their history and how srilanka has one the longest written history along with china and india. And dont miss on dutch fort in galle and also dutch hospital in colombo, cause u being a dutch have the right to see ur ancestors work and influence in srilanaka. Keep up the good work and keep coming ur videos. Cheers
@@talesofodyssey Hi, no. That's probably why. Had heard about it though. Didn't know there is a boat ride. I am from Kandy, but born in Nigeria and Canadian citizen now. Watching Sri Lankan vlogs makes me happy 🙂 I can drive you and friends to Toronto's best places and Niagara Falls if you ever visit here.
Indeed, the inherent quality of nature is very evident in these wetlands. In particular, you seem to took heavenly delight in this primitive nature of yours.

In 1980 - 2000 bro we don't use that proposition to clarify years .
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing 😄

Yes we really need to protect our natural areas, we also depend on them even if we don't always immediately notice that!
@@talesofodyssey we are doing that at the moment as students.
