Gojo hated the idea that sorcerers had to baby sit humans and Geto truly believed the point of sorcery was to protect humans.
A very traumatic event happens because Humans want money more than saving the world.
Gojo believes training the next generation would solve the problem, Geto believes removing humans would protect sorcerers (which is true) and that Gojo could do it if he wanted so Geto has to try

That too by a non-sorcerer and SPOILER: you will see how the other non-sorcerers aka the religious group reacts to her death. That basically flips a switch for both geto and gojo. Geto took it the hardest, though, because unlike gojo he truly believed in what the jujutsu society stands for and their mission. Basically to protect non-sorcerers from curses and all of that. So his morals and mindset he was growing with at jjk high began to waver. Because he saw that humans are just as vile as curses. His abilities he has to absorb curses so that all is taking a toll on him and it makes him wonder why or for who he's doing it for. If it's worth it to put himself at risk for people like that. Because curses are born out of negative emotions from these humans. Whereas Gojo trained to become stronger in his abilities. That and Geto's change made Gojo not wanting others to fall victim of such an incident again.

Their relationship is a lot more complicated than just a friendship, Gojo and Geto were completely connected to the point Gojo could recognize Geto not by cursed energy but by scent. Not to mention their days of death being connected, one of the osts being a poem from Gojo to Geto, and Gojos own personal theme song being about a narrator who loves someone and is unable to live or function without that person. Gojo and Geto are quite literally each other's Yin and Yang, they did not separate just because Gojo was stronger but instead the situations they found themselves in. They lost a friend, and grief took hold of them far differently which changed them and was the cause of their separation. Gojo went more into blaming himself feeling like it was he's fault he could not save her and wanted to get stronger in order to become able to change things, why Geto ended up blaming humanity and their fear of things they are unable to comprehend and wanted to end the root of the suffering along with get revenge.
Their character development and situationship between each other runs a lot deeper than just Gojo and Vegeta, and it was way more than just power changing their way of thinking and causing the two to separate.

Something you forgot to mention is that they had completely reversed philosophical values before the mission where Gojo fought Toji and leveled up. Around the same time, Geto experienced something incredibly tragic in a secluded mountain village and became very familiar with the dark side of human nature. Those two experiences totally flipped their worlds upside down and set quite the series of events in motion.
Also, I feel like Geto's personality is much closer to Sasuke than Vegeta. Vegeta started out evil and became a tsundere frenemy/occasional anti-hero. Sasuke started out as a cocky little edgelord, and then went through a villain arc before becoming...... whatever the hell he is now. The dad who keeps running out to buy more milk even though the fridge is full of it? Geto started out innocent and kind, but had that innocence poisoned by the evils of the world. Actually, he's kind of more like Anakin Skywalker than either of them.

Getos story actually is very traumatic and heartbroken, by simplifying it your making it seem like hes a standard villan, but hes far from that 😅
MANGA SPOILERS
When he saw an innocent girl (a vessel) he and gojo hung out with and was supposed to protect-- thats where everything went to shit.
When the non sorcerers heard about this they started clapping and congratulating the poor girls death. Tragically the girl only wish was that she doesnt want to die. Geto and Gojo promised she wouldnt, but they were no match for Toji.
This sent Geto into this maniacal spiral where he starts slipping, he loses weight, he starts questioning why hes the strongest when he couldnt protect this girl, he starts comparing himself to gojo and he mental health went to shut basically.
The final nail im the coffin was when he saw these two twins locked up in a cage, the villagers who did this were throwing rocks and yelling insults at the twins. Because the twins were so scared and abused, they started unintentionally summoning curses (bc curses are made from negative emotions) he finally snaps and slaughters the villagers who were abusing the girl.
Which then he vows to kill all non sorcerers so that curses wont exist anymore. A very flawed way of thinking, but ot ultimately led to his death.
His story was very tragic and i guess i got very carried away with this 😅😅.
