Unfortunately this is just a fantasy movie......The plot is too human to be a real encounter with aliens or such....
All engineers in space movie should be fired, never once a spacecraft in movie function properly without catastrophic malfunction. Or get a better writer who could write a good plot without depending on "oh this and that super vital component damage without redundancy and needed to be repaired manually"..
