  • Welcome back to the East Riding for the first town we've covered in the county, and you won't find many quite like this one. It isn't that long ago that this town belonged to County Durham, and was treated as an exclave!
If you come here you cannot miss, mainly due to the size of it, the massive Minster which towers over a patchwork quilt of cobbled streets, shops and gorgeous buildings, most of which have some kind of historical significance.
You won't struggle to find a pub here, that is for sure, because this town used to have more pubs per square half mile than anywhere else in thr country. Take a walk up Pinfold Street and you will see what I mean!
The Minster may be the main focal point but everywhere, and I mean everywhere, you will find something to look at. There's the Bishop's Manor House, a Fruit House, Ashes Park, a hall and garden, a crazy amount of blue plaques on seemingly every building, and that's before we've considered the railway station or the windmill a couple of miles to the North.
There's no way I've covered it all here but this is my stab at the town of HOWDEN.

Was just searching up random things on RUclips, and stumbled upon you chatting about the minster. I’m head chorister there! It’s really fascinating to hear about it from a tourist’s point of view 👍

A 5 minute walk down the side of the old minster view pub takes you to Howden Marsh..well worth a walk round.

Thanks Andy 😊 I realise the video of Howden is a couple of years ago, but I apsaulutly loved watching it. I grew up there and went to both the schools. Living now in Germany but still it brought some beautiful memories back to me! Keep up the good work 😊🌞👍🇬🇧 England has so much to offer and some very pretty places!

Really enjoyed that one, used to live in Gilberdyke in the early 80's as a child. Some good memories there! JW Cook used to be an old gentleman (the owner) and it was like a corner shop/ tuck shop. Across from the shop used to be a Hall where they did a weekend disco, back in the day!!! Thanks Andy for taking me down memory lane 👍😊🇬🇧

Another fascinating video. My wife and I live close to Howden and thought we knew the town quite well but we have certainly learned a lot. Many thanks , and if it isn`t the wrong thing to say , let`s hope you continue to have " an unhealthy amount of time " on your hands.

Any remnants of the old airship station left? Nevil Shute's story is fascinating, and he spent a lot of time here.

For those of us who don't live there and have never been there, could you speak rather than have text to read? I stopped the video constantly to read and then look at what it was. My ancestors were from the area and I'm very interested. I would also liked to have heard the birds.

I really like your walks around areas where I live and the places that I cycle through. I remember years back cycling into Howden on the TPT on the way to Hull just clueless about the fact that I was biking into a hitherto unknown amazing mini York.
    Another good un!
