- In the year of 1804, amidst the resonating echoes of the French Revolution, Napoleon Bonaparte, the first consul of the first French Republic, would make a bold and seemingly odd move - he would declare himself Emperor of the French! With the Imperial proclamation, occurring a mere 11 years after the last monarch of France, King Louis the 16th was executed during the French Revolution. So why? Why would Napoleon declare himself Emperor? Napoleons ascension to the Imperial tittle would create the Fist French Empire and mark the highpoint of the Napoleonic Era and make it the most powerful state in French history and European history post Roman empire.
