- When DJ Booth published a sobering piece about the wild, humorous, rock star rapper Danny Brown from Detroit not doing well in February 10, 2014-the dark side of musical stardom was unveiled. Danny had at that point recently took to Twitter to reveal his ongoing mental health battles with anxiety and depression, going through addiction withdrawals, and party friends becoming invisible memories when the fun was drying up. DJ Booth made an important insight into how we as trained audience members of modern entertainment have been conditioned to celebrate the self-destruction of our favorite performers from a safe distance, like active participants, then act surprise when they die young like Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, or Amy Winehouse.
Booth called out the media outlets that claimed to support him, but only when he was acting reckless and drug-fueled to snap and post pictures of his outrageousness for the purpose of multiplying their clicks, views, and subscribers. But these exploitive headline hunters will be the first to write Rest in Peace Tributes with as much forced compassion that they can make themselves muster.

Atrocity exhibition is one of the best rap albums of this generation. If his voice wasn't so tough to get used to, he'd be loved like Lupe fiasco and Aesop rock
Even then he would still have some hurdles possibly. Even Lu isn't getting the love he should be. T&Y and Drogas Wave should be more talked about and appreciated but that is how fickle many people are. They are willing to give Ye and many others chance after chance after chance but these emcees are treated differently even though they have made bodies of work that are extraordinary.

What do you mean what happened to Danny Brown? He released an amazing, ground breaking album two years ago. The internet is fucking people up. 2 years between album releases is nothing. Danny Brown doesn't have to worry about staying relevant because he is an amazing artist and cares about his work. Whatever he drops next will likely be amazing as well. Just because he's not all over tmz for drug arrests, breakups, etc. doesn't mean he's fallen off.

He’s not lying people have no respect for hip hop and its creators, everyone comes to the genre for fun not paying any attention to the struggles most of the artists are going thru with rare mainstream exceptions.
And almost everyone does sound the same the south has been on a 15 year run and east coast lyricism is becoming a dying demographic.
Esharido east coast lyricism had a big year this year. I've been talking to people on the internet about that for a few months. Even if it isn't *east coast* lyrism its guys really rapping and no gimmicks. People don't have to have respect for the OGs of hip hop either. Y'all pick the OGs y'all want to respect but don't respect the earlyyyyyyy 80s rappers just the late 80s and early 90s. Guys just wish the young guys liked or listened to their personal favorites so they can feel in the loop or so they can continue to hear what they are comfortable hearing... But either way if you look for it guys were spitting their asses off this year. Most guys who aren't young are getting it the underground way to keep their integrity because the young kids love getting fucked for a quick dollar. (I love the old and new though)

Esharido you talking numbers wise? In 2018 if you aren't signed to a major and acting out for publicity you won't have chart topping numbers unless you're a select few. It's people getting paid and making quality music though. Westside Gunn. Conway. Freddie Gibbs and Curren$y made album of the year in my eyes. 9th Wonder had a album with his entire label that had folks like Black Thought and Busta on it. Etc etc etc. I didn't like Nas album but he dropped one that some people liked. It was plenty of real hip hop done this year.
Esharido and Earl just dropped a album of straight bars. There's a lot of battle rappers making good music too but it's to OD for my taste sometimes.

I had no idea that Atrocity Exhibition sold so lousily. He's definitely one of my top 3 favourite rappers around right now. Easily! Old and XXX are excellent as well.

Hold up: jimi died of an accident, Kurt died because he was depressed and came with a family history of suicidal tendencies and other mental illness as well as he started using drugs going on before dating back to his high school days where he was already smoking a lot of weed & Amy was a similar story even before she blew up had substance abuse issues. Danny Brown is a down to earth, lovable guy, he streams video games on Twitch and he's coming out with a new album which he teased some songs to a select group of people. Danny Brown doesn't associate with the mainstream. I am still heavily concerned with his drug and alcohol use and I think that is always a topic that needs to be brought up in hip-hop because artists are dying way too often. But Danny Brown is successful, he's doing well and he even has surprise projects in other forms of media just watch out for him this upcoming year. Also that album is not going to be named Persona 5.

His drug use has likely caused a serotonin shortage and that's why he experiences the anxiety and depression. My guess is he probably can't drink coffee because the cortisol that would be released in his brain would probably cause him to spiral into an anxiety attack. My suggestion is a daily regiment of 5-htp, CBD, and vitamin D if he wants to avoid prescription pills. If prescriptions are where he wants to go then he should see what SSRIs his doctor would give him.
