      One day I would love to be able to find an original low mileage, big American car (or truck!) that was driven to church and the grocery store once a week. A few years ago I saw a 1978 Impala on a used car lot and I had to have a closer look. It had about 21,000 miles on it and had plastic covers on the seats and the carpeting. It was like it was time warped from a showroom in '78 to that used car lot. They wanted $8,000. It had to have been the cleanest, most perfectly preserved specimen on the planet, short of anything GM is storing in their basement. It was like a brand new car... light metallic green exterior, avocado interior, seats and carpet both :) A show winner for sure. Original tires, too... no dry rot!

    Two years ago I found a 98 Cadillac DeVille for 6k. Was an old man's church car, immaculately taken care of with only 51k miles. Most comfy car I've ever driven. It's enormy, insane trunk room and being 6'3" 225lbs, I can set the driver's seat where I like it, then go sir in the back behind my driver's seat. My knees don't touch the seat back.

    My first car was a 1989 LTD black on grey with about 200xxxkm. It was super easy to drive and was very smooth. It was maintained religiously by the previous owner but when I got the car it fell apart within 2 years. The frame on these rot out even if you oil spray them. I used to be able to take chunks out of my frame. I had power steering issues constantly,alternator,power window motors all failed around the same time, I destroyed the trans on it though but had it rebuilt. One day I came out it was -22 or so I cranked her over and I heard a lout pop. Cracked the block somewhere just saw coolant everywhere. I had the car towed to my new place and it sat there until one day the springs failed and it lowered itself to the ground like a low rider. I don't even know what happened to the car because I came out one day and she was gone. Probably stolen not even sure. Sometimes I feel like getting another mint shape one to take care of since I actually know how to fix most things on cars now.

    My father almost gotten a 1985 Lincoln Town Car in silver grey in the late 1980’s. He had it for a week. It kind of reminded me of the 1988 Ford Taurus that he had for driving back and forth. He had a 1982 Ford van but, it was traded on a 1989 Dodge Grand Caravan in silver grey. My mother ended up driving that mini van. Both of my parents shared their vehicles over the years. The mini van was great with my grandparents to ride in.

    • @knowbodiesfull5768
      @knowbodiesfull5768 9 лет назад

      Yes, I would buy one for myself. I've been looking at the Crown Vic and the Merc Grand Marquis because they were the last true body on frame cars available from any manufacturer. The MGM lasted all the way until 2010 and the discontinuance of Mercury, so that is the one I would get. The Buick Roadmaster is a good one too, but they are getting a bit scarce and the newest ones are 20 years old. So, rear drive full size cars all the way!

I painted the trim on this CV. at one time i had owned a '79 pinto wagon with a factory blacked out grill . i bought used trim pieces to do this. all can be changed back stock in an afternoon. the blue oval stands out much better. i remember how glad i was to see the factory position the oval in the center grill location . the 1979-1987 grill on the CV had the oval in the lower corner just like many other ford products of the period.

    I personally own a black ‘91 LX with the maroon velvet interior - it’s like driving a yacht, but a damn nice yacht.

    @MrPronchik Very few if any cars had cup holders in 1990, American or not. Cup holders didn't come around until like 94 or 95 when they started to become common.

    Wow all the modern cars in 1990 and Ford was still making a box on wheels. Time flies. I think I remember my parents had one when I was very young only few years old. It was white.

    Made back when gas was still cheap and as much as I recall this being my first car/first love, the engine was always having problems from bad alternator, bad radiator, transmission, brakes. It felt that for a car I literally got for free, I was putting more money into fixing it rather than making monthly payments.
