Sometimes when I hear her voice or see one of her videos, it makes me sad. She had such an achingly beautiful voice. The purest voice. This is who I grew up with.
over the years, many have said she sounded like she was sitting in your lap and singing to you and for ONLY you...... i believe her brother coined the word "PHONO-GENIC" (as opposed to photogenic) describing her voice...
@@williamjordan5554 Shane Ericks is pretty good, as is Abigail Mendoza... Keiko Toge even has a video with Richard Carpenter... they're all good at times, but cannot compare to Karen. I wonder if any of them will learn the drumset in order to further their imitation?
I am 53, so have had a headstart on the Carpenters over you. So I that is why I enjoy your amazement and joy of hearing their music. Her voice, to this day, is very much hypnotic.
Wasn't this song in the movie with Richard Gere when he was young and he was in live in college and she ended up getting cancer and dying? Can't remember the name. I think it wad in the 70s.
Best female vocalist EVER.. nobody can touch her deep vibrato.. superb talent..lost way to young .. if it would have been today then she would have stood a better chance of surviving..i freely admit i adore this lady 's voice..haunting..can just bring you to tears..you KNOW she feels the lyrics..rip🇬🇧💞👍🐾🐾💔
So great to see the younger generation in this reaction videos experience the absolute stellar quality of Karen’s soulful voice and Richard’s genius compositions and arrangements. They both compliment each-other so perfectly.
I hated the Carpenters back in the day because I was all about rock. But secretly I had a crush on Karen and I would listen to them when my friends were not around.
She has such a beautiful voice. Love this song. Sure brings back memories from when was young. Thanks for the trip down memory lane with this old classic.
My favourite Carpenters song..nobody could ever come close to Karen's voice..so lyrical..the deep tones are just brilliant..such a natural talent who we lost way way too early.rip
It's amazing to watch the reaction of these young kids to my generations music. It's nice to know they like some of it. Yes...we played real instruments in those days
Mesmerising, Karen was an alto contralto with a 4 octave range but none of that mattered really because it’s more the soulfulness and emotions in her voice that hits the spot.
My fave Carpenters song. Her vocal is so heartbreakingly beautiful.. A littlle background on this song.. It was written by the late great Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett. Bonnie Bramlett did the original which was called "Groupie" and is a very soulful and a bit more adult in the slightly changed original lyrics.. Luther Vandross does a well know version of this too..
You nailed it when you said you felt you were in a whole different world. That is the best way to describe it. Just an absolutely amazing brother, sister duo with an incredible back up band. Fantastic song writing and arranging with a phenomenal lady singer. Timeless.
JAYVEE TV, U MUST LISTEN TO "LET ME BE THE ONE" "GOODBYE TO LOVE" "MERRY CHRISTMAS DARLING" AND "SOLITAIRE." KAREN'S FAVORITE SONG IS "I NEED TO BE IN LOVE" RELEASED IN FEBRUARY 1976. HER BROTHER RICHARD SAID THAT SONG WAS KAREN'S LIFE STORY.
"I need to be in love" which was Karen's favourite song, and she said it several times in interviews. There is a video of her performing this song on the Bruce Forsyth show that always brings me to tears. She is clearly very sick by this point and you can just see the sadness in her eyes, and yet, it is one of the most beautiful redintions ever.
Her voice was like no other. She had such a great range. I remember the day she passed away. I was a senior in high school. I cried so hard. Thank you so much for doing a reaction for this song. I really appreciate how you are so respectful of each song and the artists that you listen to. Thank you again. This senior citizen is a fan forever of your channel. 😃💕😃
Absolutely no one on the planet can come close to her flawless voice. The world was robbed of a timeless classic lady. Growing up with her music every single time she sang her voice gave and still gives me chills. So beautiful. You are greatly missed Karen.
I took my girlfriend to see them in concert at Miami University, Ohio way back in 1973. They were fantastic! In my mind I can still see and hear Karen standing there singing, just like it was yesterday. I also scored a lot of brownie points with my girlfriend for taking her to see them!
Just found your page and love your humility as you critique these arrangements, harmonies and lead singers. This song was the first song that came to mind when I saw your fascination with these 70's and 80's pop songs. Having grown up in the 70's and 80's it pleases me so much to watch you enjoy this wonderful era in music.
Every reaction I see when listening to her music it starts with your eyes, they light up and get soft, the eyes are the windows to the soul. Then you get a smile on your face. This has happened with all the reactions before you even say a word. This is the affect her voice had on people, you went directly to your heart first when hearing her voice...which is a wonderful thing. Such a loss to this planet.
I still get chills listening to this. So haunting, and so true, for so many fans who loved their own "Superstars", who wanted to believe we were loved back.
I'd like to see a reaction to This Masquerade. Their cover, to me, is one of the few songs out there I would consider perfect. I absolutely love The Carpenters as a group and especially love Karen 's voice. This Masquerade really shows the sultry side to her voice.
Dionne Warwick said it very succinctly when she died “never be another Karen Carpenter”, that was the truth then and it’s the truth now an amazing talent with their own voice and style! She is missed
Karen's voice is like when coming home from a long trip in the cold, you come home to such warmth and comfort. All the ingredients are there for the perfect voice. amazing.
"One Love" is the song I keep coming back to through the years. "One love, in my young life, took me places I'd never been, now I want to live again................" Karen was a gift.
I agree with you man, Karen's voice is so mesmerising! I was so impressed with the Carpenters as a teenager when they came on the scene because I had never seen a girl drummer before until the Carpenters and I was so impressed with that! I so enjoyed their music. The Flower 🌹
I understand your reaction to this performance. This is a haunting song and a beautiful voice singing it. Karen Carpenter was one of the best singers. Her voice was pure and clean and clear. They wrote classic pop songs back then.
Great reaction, really enjoyed watching. I know you will get loads of requests, but if you haven't already had the chance to listen to the singer Sade I think you will enjoy really her voice too, the songs 'Smooth operater' and 'Your love is king' are classics in my humble opinion. Thanks for making my day a little bit brighter.
It’s just a damn, good Song with sweet lyrics...and of course she can Sing. Everybody loves the Baby,Baby,Baby ... PArt. :) I love the Use of the Word „ Baby“ in it.
Your not alone. I fell in love with her when i was young. Her voice her personality And i think she was beautiful. So I feel the same way about her when i hear her sing
This came out when I was 18. I'm 68 now, & have always loved this cover of Leon Russell's song. And I have to say it, Jayvee: you are one of the most handsome men I have ever seen! And you seem like a sweet guy, too. 😄
How wonderful it is tonight, that Jayvee and all of us can enjoy the loveliness of this "Karen", for her beauty of spirits & voice (Not for those that are labeled for the behaviors & attitudes) Thank you Jayvee, for sharing them with us. 🌿🌻 Don't forget "Top of the World"
This was my favorite performance by her. Luther Vandross also did his version and it was mindblowing. The minute you hear her voice you know it's not anyone else. Sadly despite her and Richard's professional success they had alot of personal problems. Richard was a perfectionist who became addicted to Sleeping Pills and spent Six Weeks in Detox. Karen on the other hand had body image issues and got addicted to diet pills and became the first celebrity to bring anorexia nervosa to the table. She died in February 1983 of heart disease yet their legacy continues. In the 1990's a Tribute Album called "If I Were A Carpenter" was released where Grunge artists covered their songs. In the UK they also did a Tribute Show to them but there was a slight glitch. The Saturdays A Girlband did their Version of "Please Mr. Postman" that was originally done by The Marvelettes. The Carpenters took their Version to Number One in 1975. In 1983 she was acknowledged as one of the many White Artists who did "Cover Versions" of Motown Songs. One of her best Girlfriends is Olivia Newton-John and through technology they do "Close To You" written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
Her voice is so mesmerizing. She was magical.

Karen's voice was midnight velvet against a sea of stars. Rest in Peace Dear Lady.
Beautiful description
Wow. What a description. And spot on.
so true
Whenever I need inspiration for similes I just go to carpenters comment section
Her voice makes falling in love seem real
i read a post that said, "people can sound like Whitney, Mariah or Celine, but no one sounds like Karen...".
Agreed
That's so so true
Well, actually, there's a Asian performer who does a damn close impression singing Carpenters songs.

Karen and Patsy Cline are my two favorite female voices of all time.
Great taste. Probably my 2 fave female singers ever as well. K.d Lang, Brandi Carlisle & Dusty Springfield also superb

To my ear, her voice was so smooth, effortless, and resonant.
Amazing memories of the 70's. I have heard from multiple people that they get chills when they hear the Carpenters.
The number of different sounds she was able to pack into a single syllable added such rich textures to her singing. So sublime.
