Right? I've been pleasantly blown away by all of the Carpenters reaction videos here, and how much love they, and especially Karen are getting. I was young when they were at the height of their popularity, but as I recall, they did not get nearly the appreciation in their own time as what has grown through the years since Karen's passing.

@@IBGECKO they used to be made fun of as fluff, and syrupy drivel. Only in the last couple decades have they gotten the respect and admiration they deserve from everyone, no matter what type of music people like. They are loved by hard rockers, indie rockers, Punk rockers, And everyone else. Everybody now appreciates how incredibly brilliant they were and how incredible her voice was. There's actually an album that came out in the 90s called if I Were a Carpenter. It's a Carpenter's tribute album by punk rock groups. It's actually good.

Btw, Karen and her brother Richard made up the duo, The Carpenters.
Richard was very musically talented as well. However, he didn’t not have the great vocals that Karen did (who does? She had an amazing range and flawless voice).
You’ll see Richard in the video. He is the blonde haired guy in the foreground (after the camera pans away from Karen then zooms up towards her again). Richard was playing the piano.

She didn't just sing, she gave you everything she had. Not just a show and the people knew it and loved her for it.

Her voice is as clear and pure as crystal, beautiful lady. I got to see them in concert in the early 70’s.

They had tones of great songs. But you should also see her playing drums. She was a great drummer. Her brother played the piano.

Karen carpenter was a drummer and did not want to be the front girl. She couldn't escape it with that voice

This song was also a giant hit for Luther Vandross. I think that was an oboe in the beginning.

You should check out a band called ‘Faithless’. They are fantastic live. Not any live reactions on you tube.

The first melody you hear in the intro is played on an oboe. It looks like a clarinet, but has a different type reed. You thought it sounded like a violin, but it's a wind instrument.
