Right? I've been pleasantly blown away by all of the Carpenters reaction videos here, and how much love they, and especially Karen are getting. I was young when they were at the height of their popularity, but as I recall, they did not get nearly the appreciation in their own time as what has grown through the years since Karen's passing.
@@IBGECKO they used to be made fun of as fluff, and syrupy drivel. Only in the last couple decades have they gotten the respect and admiration they deserve from everyone, no matter what type of music people like. They are loved by hard rockers, indie rockers, Punk rockers, And everyone else. Everybody now appreciates how incredibly brilliant they were and how incredible her voice was. There's actually an album that came out in the 90s called if I Were a Carpenter. It's a Carpenter's tribute album by punk rock groups. It's actually good.
I think about that a lot. Just think, when they made these videos who could have imagined that there would be people reacting to them in 2020!! And, as ALWAYS, falling in love with that music and most especially her voice!! I know she is smiling down at us right now!!
Right...she had such a soothing, golden voice...I hope Richard Carpenter or his kids watch these reaction videos of The Carpenter's songs and realize just how wonderful and appreciated their music was/is. 👍🏻
She is definitely the best Contralto I have ever heard. It is very difficult for a woman to sing in a tenor range and sound this pure. You have to compare apples to apples. As a trained classical singer, you can not compare her to a soprano and to someone who only sings pop music.
Karen Carpenter had such a hauntingly beautiful voice no one has ever sounded anything like her she was a one-off. So sad she died so young I think she was 32 of anorexia she had a heart attack
My sister took me to see them in concert when I was about 8 years old -around 1970. My first concert. I was completely star struck. Still my absolute favorite female voice. The best.
Arguably the greatest female voice in the history of recorded music. Karen's voice is like that of being cradled by angels that are sitting in God's lap. Check out Rainy Days and Monday's and We've only Just Begun. 😎👍🏻✌🎵🎶🎵

Karen was superb. Richard's arrangements were impeccable. But more than that, their music just makes me happy. I can sing along with Karen's contralto...her diction was so clear. Just awesome. Some suggestions: Rainy Days and Mondays, We've Only Just Begun, Sing, Top of the World, Solitaire... Check out the ones where Karen was the drummer.
She was a great drummer as well as singing. She had a voice better than most female singers. Her brother Richard, could arrange any kind of genres of music. He certainly can play the piano!!
I believe her brother arranged most or all of their songs. He doesn't get nearly enough love. Recording engineers loved her because she sounded great regardless of the mic. She could also sing and play vigorously without degrading her vocals. This vocal was a first take, sung while reading for the first time from the lyric written on a napkin.
I agree. Karen had a beautiful voice, and Richard's arrangements only elevated it even further. She still gets all the "exposure" so many years after her death for her singing, and rightfully so..but Richard should be shown some love, too. He was just as amazing, and incredibly talented.
I’ve always appreciated him, love his talent. But….. She would have been supremely successful without him. Whereas, nobody would have known he existed without her. Her untimely death proves that.
I love it when young bro's go stank face when they hear music like this for the first time. Karen shown us that a woman didn't need to hit the high notes to be a great singer.
I have loved the Carpenters since I was very young, the first album I ever got was this band. Karen will always be my very favorite singer. I still miss her to this day. Wonderful reaction to this classic duo!
Everyone's face on every First Reaction Videos makes the same reaction upon hearing Karen's voice the first time. They stop, freezing the face staring, then slowly smile to a big grin. Loving her one of a kind voice.
Carpenters/Top Of The World, Sing, A Song For You, Rainy Days And Mondays, Hurting Each Other, It's Going To Take Some Time, Desperado, I Won't Last A Day Without You , Close To You and more! Karen Carpenter along with her brother Richard made music history and musical magic!
the carpenters, karen and richard, were the top u.s. hit makers of the 1970's with over 12 top 10 all time pop classics... this song released in 1971 reached #2 on the charts, following other recent hits like "close to you" (#1), "we've only just begun (#2), "for all we know (#2) and "rainy days and mondays"....... karen a world class drummer sang lead, her brother richard, a world class pianist arranged their songs and sang back-up.. they did ALL of the background vocals and harmonies themselves using the dubbing technique... karen then and now is considered one of if not thee greatest female pop voice of love and romance songs ever... she was ONLY 21 years old the time of this song "superstar" and legend has it, it was recorded ON ONE TAKE! with her reading the lyrics off a napkin!... otherworldly incredible...
Ms. Karen has one of the purest voices ever; her voice is as smooth as budder.. In case U do not know Ms. Karen is a very good drummer.. We lost her way too early.. ♠W.G.
It’s reassuring to see a generation discovering music like this. At the time, the Carpenters were not considered “cool” but time has proven those critics so wrong.

@NoLimitTwon Btw, Karen and her brother Richard made up the duo, The Carpenters. Richard was very musically talented as well. However, he didn’t not have the great vocals that Karen did (who does? She had an amazing range and flawless voice). You’ll see Richard in the video. He is the blonde haired guy in the foreground (after the camera pans away from Karen then zooms up towards her again). Richard was playing the piano. Btw, Karen also played drums. She and Richard were very, very close. It nearly devastated him when she passed away.
Karen has given you the fever! Try these song, if you’d like: yesterday once more, solitaire, masquerade, only yesterday, rainy days and Mondays… Those can get you started. Love the reaction!
Karen Carpenter had such a smooth voice, and she made it sound so effortless. By the way, that instrument at the beginning was a clarinet. FWIW, she was a great drummer, too! Her brother Richard (backing vocals and piano) is often underrated because she was just so damn good. Some other Carpenters songs worth trying out include - "Close to You", "Rainy Days and Mondays", and "We've Only Just Begun"
Very few recognize the oboe and french horn any more. I was going to mention it, but you beat me to it. They have such beautiful sound - when played well.
Even almost 50 years of hearing Karen, I get goosebumps! Growing up, we all had our favorite music to listen to (Earth, Wind, and Fire, Eagles, Chicago, Doobie Brothers, etc.). But, when the Carpenters music was playing we'd all shut up........and just listen.
Music schools use recordings of her voice for the perfectly pitched and toned female contralto voice. Interesting because she really just wanted to play the drums, her first love, instead of singing.
Karen's voice was angelic! This is my favorite song but u should react to more of her. "Rainy days and mondays" "We have only just begun " "Top of the world " to name a few Amazing💕

Richard Carpenter is considered one of the most respected arrangers in the music industry.
