TIGHT Street Running Middletown & Hummelstown Freight Train

  • There's not many videos of it, but the Middletown and Hummelstown regularly runs freight down the street in Midddletown. Today ALCO S-6 powers a short consist of tank cars out to the interchange near the Amtrak station. Once the job is done, the locomotive returns to its shed and fits in by just a matter of inches. This is one of the most unique freight operations out there and I'm glad I got to catch it! Sta tuned for more Middletown and Hummelstown Railroad street running...

    that brick building is really close to the tracks at the start of the video, and those upper level openings are big. I bet it had some kind of winches up there sometime in the past and would pull cargo up off flatbeds right off the train. of course could also just be how the track had to go but I could just picture a hardware store in the 1800s in some small town unloading right from a train.

    Very nice! Do they run freight on any sort of predictable schedule or is it all as needed?
