- Hey everyone just thought i would share another truck tip. The F-150 has swollen lug nuts that make it very difficult to change the tires. This problem could really be an inconvenience if you have a flat out on the road and only have the tire changing tools that come with the truck, so i found some lug nuts that don't have the chrome caps to ever have to worry about again.

I have a 2016 F150 with this problem as well. Quick internet search shows this is a common issue. Why would Ford keep using these same type lug nuts even on new models?
I didn’t realize they had a chrome cap over the lug nut. I would have thought it was solid like what you replaced them with. That’s was a bad design on Fords part. Good to get them replaced!
The crazy thing is that the all metal ones I got were $17 on eBay for the set. The Ford ones would’ve cost me five dollars a lug nut and set me back $150 dollars. Go figure.
Thank you just bought a 2014 F150 this solves a big problem for me thanks again
I ran into this for the first time a couple weeks ago, it was a 2018 or 19 ford escape. They're still doing it.
Thanks for the video Ford wanted 161 dollars for a set of lugs without labor. Saved me lots of money 💰👍🏻
Dodge/Chrysler uses a similar lug nut. I have a 2017 and got them just in time. Only had a hammer the socket on probably half of them. Just do it.
Hey great vid. I don't want to be "that guy", but once in a while... lol I don't know how far South you are?, here in the rust belt, you definitely want to anti-seize the lug nuts, both the threads and the bevel where it mates with the aluminum. I do the inside flat of my brake rotor where it mates with hub, then the inside of the wheel where it mates with the front of the rotor. Just keep it light especially if you have the drum emergency brake/rotor combo. a dab 'll do ya.
Getting the nuts out of the socket, put the hammer down... No really put the hammer down, :) , slide a 3/8 extension into the back of the 1/2 socket, grip the socket, hold the extension in with your pinky and smack it down on the hammer.
I’m in southern Ohio I’ve put anti-seize on before on a different vehicle but never had any problems on the f150, I get there’s other ways to get the lug nut out of the socket some may work better or faster than the other but the job still got finished in a timely fashion plus that’s what I had to work with at the time without going to get more tools. If I ever do it again I’ll probably do it your way as it probably is faster.
Ford says the stock nuts go bad from using impacks on them.
Yeah I’d say that definitely plays a part in it.
I have a 2017 f150 that did the same thing. I guess ford doesn't care.
Just found out Toyota doesn’t care either, my wife just had a flat a couple days ago on the interstate she called road side assistance and they almost couldn’t get the wheel of because one of the chrome caps on the lug nuts striped, gonna change hers too.
Its the beauty caps on the stock lug nuts that prevent you from taking them off. You can cut the beauty cap off with a hole saw without having to buy new ones.
Yes but then you don’t have chrome lug nuts anymore
@@WilliamsonRidge who cares .
A lot of people, haven’t you ever seen people put lifts and chrome wheels, or black wheels tons of lighting and accessories, that’s why they do it, because they care, just because you don’t doesn’t mean no one else does.
@@WilliamsonRidge Mr technical. If you don't give a fuck about looks than do it like I said. If you're flamboyant than buy a new pair.
