Marc Benioff, the CEO of Salesforce, was interested in computers from a young age, and, before he went to university, he programmed video games for the Atari Console, which allowed him to pay for his college tuition. However, despite being strong in computers, he enrolled in business school and eventually started his career at Oracle, which was run by colourful founder Larry Ellison. After rising through the ranks at Oracle, Benioff left with Ellison’s blessing to start Salesforce in 1999.
Salesforce does customer relationship management software or CRM and is credited as being the first pure SAAS (Software as a Service) company. This is because it didn’t offer any downloadable software. The main idea of CRM software is that it can be anything that helps a company better interact with its customer. The original platform was for salespeople but has since expanded to include marketing, commerce, and customer service.

I am “into” Salesforce 8 years now (developer/admin), but this is the first time that I hear that Salesforce had the App Store before Apple did. I always thought it was the other way around. Nice video, great info about the early years!

As a Developer I just love Salesforce for how open it is to making custom stuff, front and end back end wise.
As a sales force user, it makes me work an hour more per day and complicate everything. Total disaster.

this has been very informative..i daresay even more than salesforce own website... it's interesting that they still market themselves as a CRM when they are more like an ERP...
Thank you! We'd call them a CRM. ERP is more accounting software. We discuss that in our Microsoft video! Check out the video before salesforce. Salesforce is purposely unclear what it does (or at least it purposely did so for a long period of time) , Benioff knows it's a good marketing play to tell you what he wants the product to do and not what it actually does. Because it's software and it's abstract already, he gets away with it !
They are starting to get there - particularly since they now have tools and mechanisms to support the subscription products that are sold to customers.
We use salesforce at work and it sucks.. as a producer/salesman its annoying asf to use.. its only good for management to micromanage

Im 20 years old, about to be 21. Im getting ready to start a CRM course with an guaranteed intership (it´s "MS /Salesforce"). I have a programing and digital marketing background, i dont mind learning basic code, this area (Salesforce/Crm) really interests me since i have a background that relates. What would be your advice for someone my age in this position? I want to be able to have a secure career, so i provide for myself. (I really enjoy your videos :D)

Yes, Elon is also a master marketer. They both know how to always be relevant.
They have managed to take Salesforce stock from an all-time high of 284 down to 220 and I would not hold my breath waiting for it to return back to 284! For shareholders this stock is nothing to brag about.

@Vikas Kaintura Siebel is still active proves the fact that UI doesn't matter for CRM. It plays a role for sure but the real players don't care about it.
Lol Salesforce is probably has one of the best UIs of most of the CRM. That's their biggest strength IMO

From a consumers perspective you can tell when a company doesn't use salesforce.
Why I own salesforce stock
We were considering switching to them last May, then they told potential customers they wouldn't do business if the customer was involved in selling firearms. We passed. Hubspot is great! BTW we sell software, not firearms, but the idea of vendors telling clients what businesses they can be in is just silly.
Telling you _who you can be_ and telling you _who they work with_ are two different things.

Salesforce commerce cloud is nothing like Shopify. It is like comparing Ferrari and Fiat. Both cars, both get you from A to B but they are in different leagues. I do this for living.

lol, why is that? We try to present the information and origin story. We discuss how Benioff plays the media. If it was a commercial, I don't think him manipulating the media would be something we would focus on. Perhaps it could be a Benioff commercial though

@@pauldesi I agree, that's an additional benefit. Businesses considering Salesforce should take a look at Zoho One. It is feature-rich but the biggest benefit for SMEs is its ability to perform all business automation functions including accounting, HR, etc. Over 40 different applications at Enterprise level are included. Take a look
@@debugstore but Zoho doesn't do much marketing. I know plenty of guys who work for Zoho and I used to go past it's headquarters. I agree Zoho is equally good. It also has a pretty good story.

I originally bought at $188 i bought a tiny bit more at 218 after it collapsed after the slack purchase + its quarterly results on the same day

@@s4sunshine01 But it's been a long tmie since they've decided they want to be moe than just a CRM, they're tyinig to be an all ni one enteprise software solution, and the name "Salesforce" is kind of limiting in that sense.
