- In this video, we look at taking card payments in a small business, using the Sum Up Air card reader.
I have no association with Sum Up and this video is about MY experiences using this system. Check out if it suits you personally. Not All businesses are eligible for a Sum Up account
You can get this item on one day delivery, here amzn.to/3JjCqZf
Just perfect thank you. Every thought I had regarding this you answered it.
We aim to please. Have a look through the channel and there’s a few more sum up related videos. You could also subscribe for future updates. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Watched like 5 of these and yours was the best. Thanks
Wow, thanks!
This is so helpful thank you so
Much.
You are welcome. Thank you for leaving a comment
Thanks for the video Mick. Just got a Sumup reader, really useful tips.
Thanks. Check out the later videos for remote payments etc
Really good review. Exactly what I was looking for
Thank you Jamie, if you need any further help, please reach out.
Love the intro music
Excellent review, great detail, really well explained and good audio too! What are the benefits of activating the sum up card?
Hi Neil, sorry for the late reply. If you use the card, it's just the same as using any other business account card, although there is a charge for drawing out cash. (check the t&c's for exact charges) Thanks for your positive remarks.
Also, check out later videos as this system is constantly evolving and things have changed since i made this video.
Great review, really helpful, thank you.
Thanks Pam.
work for a major taxi company edinburgh
visa machines work on 2G
decline of contactless is 75% - really bad
drivers now switching to sum up
I use EE network. Very few places that i can't get a signal. Odd times i've waved it out the window though, just for that extra bar.
Hi I been thinking about getting 1 of these for a few months will get 1 and try it.
Toolstation have then at £19,99
Thanks Mick, great review!
Thank you.
I barley got mine see how it goes thank you
Looks cool but brand new and first time I use it it just keeps saying decline I Try different cards keeps coming up decline what that could be
Could be many things. Did you download the app and make an account? Are the cards legit? Can you give more information please?
Got the air device at the minute but could do with being able to manually enter card details as well for payments over the phone. Don't think the air allows this?
You can send a payment link using the air. I did a video on it here, ruclips.net/video/HMqQJbKalyo/видео.html hope this helps.
Hi Mick. I was wondering the exact same thing - How do I does this without manually entering the customer's number, everytime. Or, the first time? Thanks.
does only approved transactions go through? for example, lets say a customer pays with a card (and the card has insufficient funds and they do not know), will it get declined right there and then? i just want to know to ensure i will be getting paid for my goods and services. TIA
Yes. It's just the same as other systems in shops. Instant decline for zero funds and randomly asks for pin number. If you're in doubt for stolen cards etc, simply stick the card in the slot and ask for the pin. If they don't have one you can decline service. Hope this helps and sorry for the late reply.
Hi, Can I make a remote payment with this card reader? I need something where I can take a card payment over the phone with my customers. Thanks great video, liked!
Yes, you can send a payment link by sms. Your customer then opens the link and pays with a card. There’s also an app they can download and pay through that. Hope this helps, Mick
How to you withdraw the money or how does it work
You need to set up the accont at Sum Up. Put the app on your phone and start taking money. If you go int account, on the app, you can then transfer money to your bank account.
Is Wifi needed for this to work when you're out and about? Are you caught out due to connectivity problems?
For the Air, you need to connect to the phone app. It will need a connection to work. Whether thats a cellular or wifi connection (on the phone) Hope this helps
How do I take payment when customer is not present- mail order
I’ve done another video, regarding this, Chris. The link is here Taking Remote Payments Using #SumUp #Payment #System

I am not a Sum up user but recently find more and more people are, as someone that only makes payments on these readers I have a question which I cant find the answer to anywhere!
When payment is taken via card what if any details can the person receiving funds see? Name, bank details etc?
Or are the funds sent to sum up who then take their cut and distribute to the person in possession of the reader?
Thanks in advance 👍🏻
Hi, I cannot see any card details in my screen, only what card it is ie visa, Mastercard, American Express. And yes, SumUp handle the payment, take off their fees and then pay it into the SumUp business account. You can use the debit card they supply, to spend the money, or download it to your normal business account and have it there.
@@MickReviewsStuff Thank you 😊
Hi do you need a sumup card to go with this machine and is it 4g thanks
They supply a sum up card with it. As well as a business account. The air requires connecting to a phone, as the data comes from that.
How do you put your bank details in as I can’t do it
If you download the app, set up an account and it’ll take you through it. It’s quite easy. If you struggle, their customer services will help out if you ring them.
Sum up is not available in my country and am in need of it for my online store please can you help me out
Thanks for your video
I’m not officiated with sun up, I’m just a user. Just a cab driver.
Hi there sorry how does it know what bank to go into? I bought this for my partner he’s a cabbie too but I bought it with my card for him.
Can he download the app on his phone and would it link the to his bank. I feel I’ve messed up. When I ordered it I set it up with his details and it gave me a merchant number. I’m hoping that I’ve not messed up. Any help would be really appreciated.
Download the sum up App and make up an account on there.
@@MickReviewsStuff blooming thing lol….. yep all done ☑️ thanks 😊
@@vickyharrison2227 you’re welcome.
Does it automatically pay VAT or do I have to turn it off manually? I just bought one and went to the taxes section on the app and I'm a bit confused, great video!
Sorry, I’m not VAT registered. I can’t help with this one.
It doesn’t charge anymore than the amount you put in. The only deductions it makes are the fees at 1.66%. Hope this helps.
@@MickReviewsStuff Ok, thank you very much!
If the customer asks for a receipt and you send via text do you get charged? Thanks
No charge from the company. I suppose if you didn’t included texts, there may be a standard charge from your phone provider. You can also email them one.
Does it ask for much documentation i just start a crafts store at home garage
I just filled out the application to make sure i fitted the criteria. It was easy. It was nearly 3 years ago and i can't remember any requests for documentation. I'd just apply, if i were you.
How long it take for payout
Usually a couple of days. Only thing that slows it down is bank holidays.
Can you take payment manually by entering credit card numbers on sum up ?
You can send a link, they enter their card details and you don’t see them. It’s safe and secure for both parties. As far as I know, you can’t enter detail manually. Hope this helps.
Thank you sir
How to make 10+10 payments.
Not sure what that is?
If I was to charge £1 would I get the £1 ?
You’d get the £1 minus the 1.66%. Hope this helps
Do I need a master card to transfer the money into our bank from the reader
You can transfer it to your bank account. I did a video on it, here ruclips.net/video/F4SJeao-QW4/видео.html
What's the max you can take in one payment
We've took hundreds of pounds at once. Honestly not sure if theres a max limit
