I think RUclips just introduced me to my organization soul mate 😅. I always used the concepts of active, inactive and archive storage but urgency zones are WAY better. Switching immediately. I’ve been using the rule of threes for years, I have a box with a lid on my desk labeled “Small Desk Stuff” and I have always put parts in baggies and labeled them. The urgency zone concept ties it all together & makes so much sense to my out-of-sight-out-of-mind ADHD brain. Instant subscribe.
Suggestion: keep the background music muted. In my opinion it just adds audio clutter that makes it harder to fully input what you are saying, which is really good!

@user-xw2np3dl3f if it helps, creating this set up is a process. It may take months or even years to fully develop it. Work on the most urgent things first. Like maybe you don't have the energy to sort through things, but you want to reduce the visible clutter. Let's say you're tackling paperwork, stationery and miscellaneous small items. Have a bin for each. Then on another day, sort through one bin. Let's say you start with the paperwork. Your goal isn't to sort through all the paperwork down to the T all at once. Group the paperwork into general piles that will require further sorting later. So let's say one stack is bills, one stack is school or office work, one stack is low priority. Again, on a different day, sort through one stack. This way, you're not expending all your energy into tackling such a huge project and burning out halfway through.

Finally advice on how to organize EDC and knives! My husband loves knives and my mother in law keeps buying me organization books to help with clutter, and as much as I love tips on baking zucchini bread with ingredients fresh from the garden I don't have, Marie Kondo/Martha Stewart just do not speak to dealing with having an influx of warranties, tiny metal unknown parts, which is hard to remember when you got it yourself, and impossible to organize when you are trying to do it on behalf of someone else! We both grew up with messy parents and want to be neat but learning how is challenging when it seems most people in the minimalist/organization space either don't like or straight up fear knives. This is exactly the video I have been needing, thank you!
I've donated mostly everything this year that had a home in my home, AKA, in my "zones". My keys, purse, couch, TV, couple lamps, small dining table, a chair or two, my bed, another lamp, another small chair for my bedside table, a few pictures are enough now. Other everyday necessities I want away in a closet or cupboard. Knickknacks just for the sake of visual interest are now very rare. It's interesting because it looks like I can not afford many things. It's just now I cannot afford, mentally, the many things I used to own (or that used to own me). Another perk is I finally found out why I could never keep up with my kitchen. Now that I have less of everything in there, naturally I have less to clean up too😉.

They are waterproof and they contain the whole project so it’s a win-win for me great video.
1. Replace your cables in the power area with shorter, just what you need lengths (not too hard to find). Coiled cables can get hot and catch fire in that un-ventilated cabinet. Also, less clutter. This is also the answer to home theaters and those pretty desktop setups. 2. You may want to buy a nightcore 4 slot battery charger (does the 3.7V lithiums and AA/AAAs). Buy a handful of AAs and AAAs (the eneloops are good). Just replace batteries as needed. When your supply gets low, buy another handful. Eventually, you won't need to buy batteries ever again.
Thank you so much. I think I needed to hear from someone else to realize that these were methods to keep things in order. The Don’t Know Seems Important container makes so much sense, as opposed to my habit of putting it to the side and then when I realize “I saw this item, where is it…” I’m lost. And using labeling a baggie with spare parts (and maybe assembly instructions) sounds much more practical than trying to bundle up the torn open bag it came in, and having no set place to put it. I think this will make a difference for these things, but also my general approach to a more organized home. Thank you again.
You've got the job! Please come and organize my life. I've been working on it forever and never, ever heard of any method such as yours. Extraordinary!
Aha! This video clicks with the particular way my brain works more than any description of an organizational system I've seen. The specificity and granularity of the organization paired with the focus on levels of urgency and visual clarity is really hitting home.
I have ADHD and am moving states at the end of the year. I’ve basically taken the whole year to tackle the massive decluttering for my whole family in preparation for the move. This video is like finding gold! I love it! I’m predicting another super order from Ikea in the next week! Yes, I’ve been using Ikea and Kmart a lot. I wouldn’t call myself a minimalist but I am inspired by minimalist approaches because the lack of visual clutter removes an enormous weight from my mind.
Old shoe boxes are the best, especially hiking boots boxes because they come with a flip lid. I have a couple in my office closet and that's where I place warranty printouts and instruction manuals. I rarely need them, but when I do, it's good to know they're readily accessible.
You can use painters tape to label. I prefer this so I am not waiting to do a project. But I can make better labels when i have a bunch/am getting inspired.
In the middle of chaos while packing for a move, I felt a bit overwhelmed. Then I sat down with a lovely cup of tea and watched this video. Your voice and the ideas inspired me so now my spirits are raised.😊
Thank you! The rule that "everything we own must have a designated home" has improved my life tremendously. I just never thought about it like that before. Also, the little baggies tip was a game-changer. Not only do baggies help me keep better organized, but they reduce space as for many things I used to keep in their original bulkier packaging
Fellow ADHDer here: Along with labels on the containers, getting CLEAR containers is best for us - because when we SEE just ONE item in the container we remember the *full* contents of what's in there (just like how we know all the contents of our doom piles, even the things covered so fully they can't be seen), while sometimes our brains will gloss right over labels. (I'd also recommend smaller labels than what Maurice is using, so more of the container's contents can be visible.)
It's so funny, because I have a spot for little baggies, and another spot for labels.... and yet another spot for pens. It never occurred to me until this moment to have those things together in a convenient little bin! Lol.
Is this my new favourite video, ever? Probably. This is great work and I hope to be able to implement it in the future! I would love for you to tackle kitchen cupboards too lol. Thanks again!
I once had a larder entirely labelled with clear tubs, all my ingredients. it was beautiful. then, it slowly morphed into a cupboard of mixed nuts, vitamins, and madness. this video has energized me!
Very good tips. A few more from similar system I use. - clear shoeboxes as containers. Looks more cluttered but they stack and you can easily locate things inside them without digging around -a put away bin. Helps the night time ritual to have a box that things you used in the day go into, you then empty it at the end of the day to clean up. -a misc bin. for thing that don't fit other categories. Once filled find any correlation between objects ( pointy, small, etc) and sort from random bin into a new bin with that category.
❤ your approach to organizing. Very detailed, thoughtful and intentional. Macro and micro points, based on your needs…not someone else’s, is the key to discovering what works best for you. excellent video👏🏻
Another brilliant video! Thank you, Maurice. This video is most useful for a “slob” like me who wishes for everything to be neatly organized… Oh, the dichotomy! 😆
Organization is what I live for and have very good systems in place and have for years! Maurice just taught me about removable labels that I honestly never even thought about. Old enough to be your mom, and this old dog, just learned a new trick! 👏👏👏 😊
I had storage that I had to relabel sometimes, so I started putting the laminated labels on the bins with Velcro. You can use scrapbook paper or any cool paper. You can print on the scrapbook paper (if it takes ink), print on plain paper and attach it to a larger piece of the decorative paper, or laminate fancy paper with no writing then write on it with dry/wet erase or permanent marker. But then you don't need to attach it with Velcro lol, you can just rewrite it instead of replacing it If you print and laminate labels like this it's nice to make several blank ones, then you can handwrite on them if you need more, until you can print new ones
This approach feels like the "Getting Things Done" of personal organization 👍 Establish a system you trust, capture everything, sort by priority, maintain the system. Great stuff, thank you!
so true, this is why i have a hard time cleaning my room but have no problem cleaning the bar/kitchen at my work. There I know exactly where everything is supposed to go, it doesn't even need boxes as long as you know '' this closet is for all the glasses''
I clicked on this on a lark. I know lots and have watched and read lots but thought, well why not? Loved your video!! Concise and quick. Loaded with information. Well presented. We have opposite kinds of stuff but the concepts and your 5 secrets should serve me well! Thank you!
Thank you so much. Your method of breaking down 'Zones' for storing things is really helpful. If I may suggest a tip, is to use house organization App (or at least excell sheet) to note down where you put your stuff. I found it harder each year to remember the location of my stored items, especially those rarely used ones like that wooden doll with hair that keeps growing from Aunt Agnes urgh... Anyway, such App is really helpful in a long run
Wow this level of organization feeds my soul! I love the idea of urgency and going by what feels urgent. I have a bin that I labeled “Random Useful Stuff” and it serves the exact same purpose as your don’t know looks important bin. So useful!

I absolutely need to apply the approaches you've discussed. I've been trying to do similar organization, but in a piecemeal way. Seeing how dialed in your methods are is extremely helpful. Having a system is a necessity for me.
Love this video will never do any of it. Second pro tip for when you're with the power bar. If you velcro it to the wall of the shelves, you free up more space on the shelves.
this is genius! I'm subscribing. in my youth I was super organized, but now in this season of life - idk what's happening. I'm so lost. former organizing systems no longer work for me.
I have lived by myself for many years, mainly because my home looks EXACTLY* like this and ordinarily this would drive another person bonkers. Finally, I have found somebody else I could comfortably live with, and they would not drive me nuts LOL * I’m not exaggerating. The only exception is that I don’t have a collection of pocket knives. Just two. But everything else is the same, and I prioritise my things the same. My charging drawer is way more organised and tidy though 😝
@MauriceMoves Your Urgency System is a brilliant concept! I need to work on my "useless but keep" things so they fit in a small box bc the collection is room sized!
Love the “urgency zones” concept, thank you. I read an organizing book once which suggested “task zones” in a home, and that’s been super helpful but I think combining the two is gonna really take me to a functional level of organization skills that might even compensate for the ADHD.
I implemented a WTF: Bits & Bobs bin a couple years ago and it was a game changer long term. And reduces stress so much because I don’t have to think about and hunt for that thing I know I saw somewhere?
This is very useful thank you. I think I subconsciously organised my under bed storage this way. The foot and one side of the bed are more accessible than the other side (near wall). I have my least used boxes closer to the wall at the top of the bed (a box of posters, box of shoes used for cosplay or formal occasions). Things I will make the effort to get out but don’t need to access very often. One box with board games/game cartridges faces the open foot of the bed (easier access). A box of dance supplies is the easiest to get to, facing the open side of the bed, along with travel cases/makeup things. Another box I don’t use very often is blocked by the night stand, but with some rearranging, easy to get to on the open side.
I also have a similar system but didn’t have a name for it. Now I do “urgency”. Also I too use that same monitor standard as handy storage next to my bed. It’s cheap and works great.
the "Don't know (looks important)" bin is so shockingly practical. Such a good recommendation!
Right?? I have so many things saved that would go in that bin...and they are scattered in the strangest places.

Love the baggies idea as like you said so well, the tiny stuff are the bane of my life😅😂
It's so funny, because I have a spot for little baggies, and another spot for labels.... and yet another spot for pens. It never occurred to me until this moment to have those things together in a convenient little bin! Lol.
Is this my new favourite video, ever? Probably. This is great work and I hope to be able to implement it in the future! I would love for you to tackle kitchen cupboards too lol. Thanks again!
My mind is blown! this is the system my brain has been trying to tell me for years and you just articulated it succinctly!
I love this level of organisation!!!
Best home organization video I’ve seen in a while…explains reasoning
I once had a larder entirely labelled with clear tubs, all my ingredients. it was beautiful. then, it slowly morphed into a cupboard of mixed nuts, vitamins, and madness. this video has energized me!
This feels like a seriously good system. Great job on explaining it.
This content is the shit I live for-thanks Maurice! Moving soon after living with my parents so good to manifest my home setup.
Very good tips. A few more from similar system I use.
- clear shoeboxes as containers. Looks more cluttered but they stack and you can easily locate things inside them without digging around
-a put away bin. Helps the night time ritual to have a box that things you used in the day go into, you then empty it at the end of the day to clean up.
-a misc bin. for thing that don't fit other categories. Once filled find any correlation between objects ( pointy, small, etc) and sort from random bin into a new bin with that category.
I think this is the best organization video i've seen. EVER! Instant subscribe
Please don’t respect my time and show my everything in your cabinets haha
@@mateo1726 haha, right?!
@@mateo1726 😂😂😂
That's what I was thinking
Absolutely had the same thought, but I'm hella nosey when it comes to other people's organization!
We need to know!!!😂
Organization is what I live for and have very good systems in place and have for years!
But then you don't need to attach it with Velcro lol, you can just rewrite it instead of replacing it
If you print and laminate labels like this it's nice to make several blank ones, then you can handwrite on them if you need more, until you can print new ones
The "URGENT" zone is genius.
I started bagging up spare parts like that a while ago. It's a total game changer 😍
This approach feels like the "Getting Things Done" of personal organization 👍
Establish a system you trust, capture everything, sort by priority, maintain the system.
Great stuff, thank you!
One of the best organization videos I've ever watched. Disclaimer: I have a similar organization system/method 😅
so true, this is why i have a hard time cleaning my room but have no problem cleaning the bar/kitchen at my work. There I know exactly where everything is supposed to go, it doesn't even need boxes as long as you know '' this closet is for all the glasses''
I love the concept of urgency vs frequency. Thanks for this.
I clicked on this on a lark. I know lots and have watched and read lots but thought, well why not? Loved your video!! Concise and quick. Loaded with information. Well presented. We have opposite kinds of stuff but the concepts and your 5 secrets should serve me well! Thank you!
my man has thought of everything, i love it. need him in my raid group.
My wife shared this video with me.
Best organising video very helpful 👌
Thank you so much. Your method of breaking down 'Zones' for storing things is really helpful. If I may suggest a tip, is to use house organization App (or at least excell sheet) to note down where you put your stuff. I found it harder each year to remember the location of my stored items, especially those rarely used ones like that wooden doll with hair that keeps growing from Aunt Agnes urgh... Anyway, such App is really helpful in a long run
You, my friend, are a cricket overload 😄
Definitely according to clutter bug.😊
@@Nenthil yes!! I’m a ladybug and this is overwhelming
Wow, LIFE CHANGING! Thank you for sharing!
Wow this level of organization feeds my soul! I love the idea of urgency and going by what feels urgent. I have a bin that I labeled “Random Useful Stuff” and it serves the exact same purpose as your don’t know looks important bin. So useful!
This is million dollar content right here
ive been OBSSESED with this video and these tips. I live in a rental and we have that one space near the entry that is soo cluttered. I already planned the categories. Thank you, you really change and make better lives of others! And hello from Poland :)
I feel like accelerate learning organizing! Thank you! 🥰
Although not spoken, this video also shows a great tip - store your stuff behind cabinets & drawers. That way they won't collect dust in the open & will make cleaning easier.
While I may not organize exactly the way you do, there are always some helpful tips I can learn from the way other people do things.
In Cass the Clutterbug’s system, you are definitely a cricket! 😊
@@clarewoosley8376 yeah I was like this is great for crickets. Crickets can adapt to anything.
@@clarewoosley8376 this was the first thing I thought of when he opened the cabinet door!!
This is the most helpful video for organization out there!!! Thank you so much for everything you did to put this together!!!
my mind is blown, i'm speechless, re thinking my whole life, don't know where to start.........whoa
Wooww.. God is good. I've been thinking about this thing lately, how to organize our home with wisdom and mindfulness, and also teach my kids to organize the things that they've earlier. I'm looking forward to see you Home Organization Course.
thank you so muchhhh.. 🤟
Incredibly reasonable, did the Marie Condo folding thing on my clothes and I´m still happy with it, will try your "Maurice Condo" thing too... Looks so easy. Thank you!
I can feel the difference in my back pain. Thank you. ❤
This is absolute gold.
"Don't know, looks important" is the next label I will be making!
I don't have OCD but I feel the urge to be organised after this video. Thanks man! ❤
I love that you put all this effort into organizing and declutter. I use netal baskets in most of my wardrobes and shelves to keep things organized. 🎉
The best video I've ever seen about organization, perfect! Cheers from Portugal
Practical and simple tips. Very professional
Imagine a thief breaking into Maurice's house
>opens cabinet
>box labeled "Things Worth Stealing"
😂easier to take what it wants
😂
this is genius! I'm subscribing. in my youth I was super organized, but now in this season of life - idk what's happening. I'm so lost. former organizing systems no longer work for me.
I have lived by myself for many years, mainly because my home looks EXACTLY* like this and ordinarily this would drive another person bonkers.
Finally, I have found somebody else I could comfortably live with, and they would not drive me nuts LOL
* I’m not exaggerating. The only exception is that I don’t have a collection of pocket knives. Just two.
But everything else is the same, and I prioritise my things the same.
My charging drawer is way more organised and tidy though 😝
Wonderful! I have been trying various methods to organize my crafting items but it still doesnt feel right. This video is just what I needed 👍☺
@MauriceMoves Your Urgency System is a brilliant concept! I need to work on my "useless but keep" things so they fit in a small box bc the collection is room sized!
Love the “urgency zones” concept, thank you. I read an organizing book once which suggested “task zones” in a home, and that’s been super helpful but I think combining the two is gonna really take me to a functional level of organization skills that might even compensate for the ADHD.
such a huge fan of your videos !! so nicely edited, concise, always topics i love
Great tip ideas to think about. Going to rethink my system. Keep it up.
I just loved your tips! Specially the last "secret". Thanks a lot.
I'm totally using this both at home and at work!
I implemented a WTF: Bits & Bobs bin a couple years ago and it was a game changer long term. And reduces stress so much because I don’t have to think about and hunt for that thing I know I saw somewhere?
Amazing! Thank you for these new and different ideas!
Hello! Avery also has a website with templates that you can create and save to your own account.
First class video and tips. You give practical solutions and clear visual explanations. Thank you from the UK. Take care please.
