      most of them are small alibaba batches that need marketing to get them to sell. if you devide the cost of a free bike over the cheap ones you get a higher price.

    I would kill for a free ebike. And yes I have an ebike, technically I have two. One that I converted, and another I bought second hand for parts. Now to be honest, 90% of ebike manufactures are just buying a premade bike frame then slapping parts on it that are made by someone else. Like several of those bikes had the exact same frame, with a Bafang rear hub motor on it and Shimano parts.

Ironically, a folding fat tire bike is my favorite just because I can pop it in the trunk. Best part is I can still get a leg burning workout (former marathoner), or cruise effortlessly after a hard days work. My particular bike is a modified RadMini with Tesla batteries and a Phaserunner, and you do have to be careful in sport mode, but it's comfy and still looks stock.

Also when the chain snaps you cannot still make it back home, whereas if a chain snaps on a rear hub motor you can still make it back home no problem.

    I work part time in a bike shop and we'll work on these e-bikes for basic mechanical issues like flat tires, brakes or shifting BUT when it comes to the electronics, we stay away unless their quality equipment like Bosch or Shimano. Hard to get parts for off brands and there could be huge liability with electronics. These batteries are a risk if they short out and catch fire. Before you buy one on line, you might ask if the company has liability insurance.

  • @AgentAlmost
    @AgentAlmost 2 года назад

    Things you don't see right away but matter are whether it's made in Taiwan or mainland China (and yes there's a huge quality difference), whether the battery will be put together well vs explode on you in a couple of years due to bad bms, whether the rims are double vs single wall, whether the included tires are decent vs glorified pool toys, whether the racks if included will actually hold up vs are made of chinesium that will eventually stress fracture dumping your contents over the road, whether the design of a step through is braced correctly to dampen resonant flex vs wobbles so much you crash after hitting a pothole at 20mph, etc.
    That stuff all matters and there are brands in that general pricing tier that do think about those things. They're usually not the cheapest ones though
    For instance your quip in the first video about the hub motors being unresponsive? That's almost always because of the cadence sensor. Cruddy ones take a while to kick in. Better ones with more magnets don't.
    Heck some 2k and under brands even have torque sensors.
    Some of the Alibaba bikes are straight up weird too with design elements that don't work together like frame geometry that pushes you forward into a racing position coupled with long curved handlebars. Or the opposite.
    If the company has actual designers they catch these things.
    You're going to be contacted by the Shenmondus but they're not all Shenmondus.
    You see this through the lens of a hobbyist but there's people using these for transport and even their livelihood: to deliver food mainly.
    If they just get what's cheapest chances are it'll either break down on them or catch fire on them, eventually. Probably when they're working. Money lost during the downtime will cost them more than they saved.
    Even if you're not *exactly* wrong about there being very few components manufacturers supplying for these e-bikes, doing your homework is still important.

    It's good that you say that this Chinese e-bikes are basically all the same. Maybe you can list once the parts for retail prices and estimate the prices for original equipment manufacturers (OEM), so one would see, how cheapthey are made. Buying e-bikes for USD 1'500,- are mostly way overpriced. And in a lot of the cases, one has to ugrade them to get a decent bike. So, better not buy them.

    • @thea.m.p.co.467
      @thea.m.p.co.467 2 года назад +1

      Most of these Chinese bikes are being drop shipped and I've consistently seen shipping exceed $600 on bikes costing $450. Tack on another %50 for your profit & troubles and you're looking at a $1400 price tag on Amazon. Buying parts or complete bikes wholesale is great, until you get the shipping invoice. A single 500w 48v hub motor might be $150, but it's going to cost another $150 to get it shipped. 24ah battery only $250? Ooooo... But it's $400 to ship.
      Maybe others have seen better prices and shipping? Curious to know what others have seen/experienced finding or buying Chinese parts & bikes.

    New subcriber here. 175k subscribers. Who needs money from the bikes. But, you probably give more time and effort for what you get being that you have a great youtube channel . You give yourself and your place.
    As long as honest reviews you deserve a great channel so I subscribed, will watch your channel, and will watch the ads.
    Thanks

    I bought the Speedrid 26in, with a fork, derailleur and Battery upgrade it's an insane mountain bike, like black diamond type of stuff. Still cost less then a Himingway, Rad. Tops at 26MPH flat ground throttle only.

    "They're all the same." You've got bikes there with motors twice as powerful as others, batteries twice as large, different torques and capabilities...but they're all the same? This is like looking at a Prius, a Suburban, and a Lamborghini and saying "Hey, they've all got 4 wheels, brakes, and a motor. They're all the same."
    The reason companies shouldn't be sending them to you isn't because you're "honest", it's because you have no clue what an ebike customer is looking for.
    And the entire situation of you having to take the effort to say YES to these companies up front for them to send one to you, then turning around and whining "Stop sending me bikes!" is just disingenuous.

    PSA: Fire Hazard. Those Chinese e-bikes are made only Dog knows where by Dog knows who, whoever had the supply and the right price at the time. Quality control is awful and you shouldn't risk your home going up in flames when the battery fails.

    I think the best ebike you can buy for the price is the Ancheer Blue Spark! I upgraded it but it worked great before I did the work for a little more challenging mountain bike trails. It also looks really good like a mountain bike which is a definite plus.
