FINALLY SOMEONE WHO CAN DESCRIBE COMPLEXITY IN SIMPLISTIC TERMS WITHOUT A BROKEN ACCENT OR ENGLISH SKILLSET. THANK YOU VERY MUCH...THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I CARED TO LEAVE A COMMENT ON RUclips...KEEP THE TUTORIALS COMING!!!!
Arch Viz Camp you're doing a great job then. I've switched my workflow from sketchup to 3ds max (mental ray) to just sketchup with vray...the sketchup setup is definitely not as in depth as the vray max setup...however. it does allow for faster revisions to be made without migrating the changes each time they come...and at our studio they come so often... however after seeing your videos I will definitely dabble with 3ds max/vray...the real time engine preview is much more fluid... do you have a particular workflow from sketchup to max? check out my work... www.blakechamberlain.net like to hear your thoughts! keep the videos coming! cheers
Yo You Are A Life Saver!!!! i paid $15 for a top quality HDRI image for my scene and it kept coming up black but after tweaking the overall multiplier it worked and i want to kiss you :3
I have used two of your videos as reference for landscape architecture and find them very helpful. I really appreciate them, they are very simple and straight forward. Thanks
Arch Viz Camp I have one request of you,,, Im not big on 3Ds so I mainly model in SU and merge the scene into max. If you can do a tutorial on best practices I would appreciate it.
Wow! What a great tutorial!! I spent 3 hours keeping notes and watching your tutorial again anad again in order to understand it!!! I have migrated just recentlty from Max 9 - Vray 1.5 to Max 2014 - Vray 3.0 and I am shocked by the changes
Thank you dear for this amazing video .. simple an direct to the point .. i first watched in 2015 . and i always recommend it to my friends ... really am thankful
This video is a gift from God. You don't need any other source to know everything about Vray Dome and HDRI's. I was so relieved after watching the video and i got everything i needed here. Thank you !
I've got a little bit of a background in photography and I've found that an aperture of 5.6 , shutter speed of 1/sec & 1/30.0, and an ISO setting of 100.0 produces a good image and is a camera setting that you might use for the type of lighting scenario you're using.
Stuck on 1:44, I've tried to enable the HDR in my Viewport but its pitch black. I've followed your instructions perfectly but not sure what's wrong. Is there anyway to overcome this?
HelIo, I use vrayHDRI environment to create HDRI environment map but, viewport showing it as white color while use environment background is enabled. However the environment map is showing correctly when rendering. I’m using 3Dmax2016. Please help. Thanks.
Hi! your video is very clear and I followed every step. I don't know why but my sky looks very dark when rendered. It worked fine earlier until now after I create a new Vray Dome Light the sky is dark no matter what HDRI I use. The rest of the scene is well lit by my Vray sun and it looks fine in the camera view.
Can you tell me why put the HDRI image in both the dome light and the environment slot? Is the environment giving light as well as the dome? Wouldn't that double up the effect? What if I wanted the background with a white color. Do I just un-check the environment? Thank you great tutorials!
Thanks the tutorial is really great and simple easy to learn from , i have an issue would like to ask you about when i use slandered spot light there is always a noise attached to the light in the rendering how can i get ride of it
Hi from argentina!. a question, why you dont use vraySun or skylight?, sorry to ask this but it is became a maze on my head as to when use one or another way.
at 4.17 you say "don't worry about the blown up sky we will deal with it later on." but you never mention it again. how do you deal with overblown skies when you need the extra light? or just use a vray sphere light or sun to illuminate the scene?
Hi, at the end of the tutorial I talked about replacing the sky image in Photoshop, using the alpha channel. So you can use the HDRI only for lighting your model, and add your sky in post production.
Niels van Haandel one way to deal with that, is to render your animation with an alpha channel sequence (so you will get an alpha for every frame), and use it as a mask to control the sky exposure in after effect or any other post software.
you can simply make your vray light(loaded with hdri map) invisible and load same hdri into ur environment slot( rendering>>>>environment>>>(check use map}). for good lighting control, link your vray light map to the vray light using wire parameter.
You dont need to change the hdri scale, I never do so. You can either hide the trees/houses in the hdri with objects such as 3d trees and houses or with a background plan with different panorama view with alpha mask to hide its own sky. Also you can lower the position of the hdri image inside the bitmap parameters. Make any sense? :)
Hi. I am Using 3ds max 2016(Vray 3.40.01). whenI am rendering an interior scene with daylight system with mr physical sky map in environment slot. It renders and shows background map through the glass windows. But when I use hdri map image in a material editor which I instaced in envi. map slot it renders all window glass black and oes not show backround hdri image.
Hi I want to ask If I have rendered a product in Keyshot, and then I want to create and environtment in 3DsMax does it could be done? I mean does the color that I have make still exist,or I have to remake it in 3Ds I am a new user, I want to learn step by step
AWESOME! I have a question, bcz about showing the background, I only have the option "show background color" and when clicking it, the backgroud appears in the color I have in the enviroment. I can´t see the picture of the HDRI. I have 3d Max 2012,. any suggestions? Thanks
During the entire quarantine period, I learned how to write soft at soft soft. TNice tutorials is not to say that self-isolation is a pleasant tNice tutorialng,
Thanks for the tut. Bery well explained. But i have a question. everything is nice. I can see evetything on my viewport. But when i render i do not see the clouds?. Its just white. . Am i doing something wrong. Parameter are by default
Quick question, is inverse gamma something that only exists in 2014 onwards? I have 2013 and can't find it anywhere :( I have coordinates listed in the menu instead
Hi, I have a problem. After making the render I get a black line in the background and I have tried everything but I can´t remove it. Any solution? Thanks!
Hi! Very good tutorial. One question, what are the settings you have at the 'Gamma and LUT' for like this video? When I select the HDRI file it always seems to appear at the material editor overexposed (black/white). Thank you in advance.
sir i am using 3ds 2012 and v ray 2.40 but in view port configuration my background tab is not coming... so how i view my hdri in background there is more option for viewing the background...
How about Gamma and LWF settings? My test is almost black with gamma 2.2. I'm using: Area, 1/4 DMC sampler, Linear Multiply default, Mode: Color mapping and gamma. Can you help me?
I FACE A PROBLEM USING HDRI FROM 3DCOLLECTIVE ... THEY GIVE THE NICE LIGHTING AND SHADOWS BUT THE SKY LOOK DARK NOT MATCHING WITH THE ACTUAL ENVIRONMENT .. WHAT TO DO ? REPLACE IT THROUGH PS ???
Thanks a lot for your tutorials! They are always well made and absolutely clear even for a limited English speaker such as myself. You are doing a great job by bringing a grain of enlightenment and sharing your knowledge. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it. I hope that this work will be continued and we'll see the new tutorials.
Great tutorial sir! One question though, how did you set up your viewport/camera so you can see the HDRI and its position (as you change its horizontal/vertical rotation) before rendering? Thanks a lot!
I love this tutorial!! I'm fascinated about creating HDRI lighting after using one last year to illuminate a 3D torus knot within a photo of my garden. After posting it on FB, my friends where asking me where they could get one from ;-). Subbed..
very nice thx for the tut it really help me because Im a newbie in v-ray usually I use mental ray or I-ray render but I got v-ray 3.0 and I really impress with it, thx again
nice, but what if i add more lights to the scene do i have to make all the lights linked to hdri ? everytime i add a ies light, plane or sphere the lighting sets to only those lights and ignore the hdri light :/ please advise
Thank you for this, sir. I was trying to light my scene using GI environment in the render dialogue, and didn't realize I still needed to create a dome light. My scene looks great!
Bro, i cant get the result. i followed every step but my render image and background is too dark. I placed dome light also. I use max 2018. Plz help me. Thank you. @John Petersen
Brian Chen In this video I used the map in the environment slot just so I could see the sun direction in the viewport. I turn the environment off on the final render.
Arch Viz Camp does this rotation of the environment then also control the rotation of the dome? im using vray for sketchup and the two are completely independent...of course I cant a background HDRI environment preview without using the REALTIME render engine to preview sun properties... I have a related question... I mapped an HDRI dome light and the render is beautiful. worked great...however...the dark horizon line across the glass frustrates me...is there a way to eliminate this? I feel like I should just be able to lower the vertical position of the HDRI...I tried making it a 'spherical' dome light, mirroring the horizontal. nothing... this may be hard to answer seeing as how im using Sketchup but VRAY for sketchup and 3ds max are pretty much the same...I find SU to be a watered down version of VRAY for 3dsmax... any help would be greatly appreciated.
Blake Chamberlain yes the dome light also rotates because you are rotating the original map itself under it's options. not the environment. and your second question regarding the dark line is something that also frustrates me. I have no clue how to move the map vertically. under dome modifier you can scroll down and click full sphere dome something like that and it will render the full image without creating the dark bottom portion. but then you might see grass or trees in say a city like chicago. What I do is I just try to use a different HDRI and some will not show that dark horizontal based on my perspective.
Blake Chamberlain Blake Chamberlain yeah, full sphere mapping in the vray light dome options. Also the other day I foud that the vray hdri map (not the common 3DS max one) has an option that goes something like "project ground plane" it produced some weird floor in my project but maybe is that what you're needing for your project. sry for english.
Great tutorial, thanks ! I'm actually working on a render for the university and I'd like to have black edges around the pool too but I can't do it. Would you help me ?
Great Tutorial, liked the video but i do have one question.Whenever i check ''use environment background'' HDRI displays as pure white in viewport, no matter what values i change, it stays the same.solution you gave to Rafael didn't help, still pure white.NOTE:ONLY IN VIEWPORT!when i render it's normal
Arch Viz Camp Yeah i did that, but it's still white, it's like it can't display anything but that, like it's not down to settings, but Max takes it as a solid white.I will try tomorrow again
Great Tutorial, thank you very much! The camera seems to be locked and cannot be moved from it's original position. Is there anyway to release it? I've seen this happen before but can't get around it! Thanks again!

For those that are also getting a black background - Set overall multiplier to about +50 (Material editor > hdri map > Overall multiplier)
i have the same problem
but now i have too much brightness in the half black background of HDRI
Yo You Are A Life Saver!!!! i paid $15 for a top quality HDRI image for my scene and it kept coming up black but after tweaking the overall multiplier it worked and i want to kiss you :3
This was a huge help and was by far the best introduction to working with HDRI I could find. Thanks for taking the time to produce it!

Hi.,
do u know how to fix this problem because I'm also having same problems
HDRI bigger than the model

I have the same problem...did you solve it??

thank you so much! nice video and straight to the point 10/10
Great tutorial sir! One question though, how did you set up your viewport/camera so you can see the HDRI and its position (as you change its horizontal/vertical rotation) before rendering? Thanks a lot!
Watch 1:20
I love this tutorial!! I'm fascinated about creating HDRI lighting after using one last year to illuminate a 3D torus knot within a photo of my garden. After posting it on FB, my friends where asking me where they could get one from ;-). Subbed..
very nice thx for the tut it really help me because Im a newbie in v-ray usually I use mental ray or I-ray render but I got v-ray 3.0 and I really impress with it, thx again
glad you like it!

how to do update HDRI in 3dsmax 2014
nice, but what if i add more lights to the scene do i have to make all the lights linked to hdri ? everytime i add a ies light, plane or sphere the lighting sets to only those lights and ignore the hdri light :/ please advise
Ibrahim El Sharif There is no need to link other lights to the HDRI light. Do you have this problem when rendering or in the viewport itself?
Thank you for this, sir. I was trying to light my scene using GI environment in the render dialogue, and didn't realize I still needed to create a dome light. My scene looks great!

Hi Arch Viz; My 3d max always crashes when trying to preview the hdri on the viewport
Great Image, but why would you use a background environment map + a Dome light? Don't they produce the same effect?
Brian Chen In this video I used the map in the environment slot just so I could see the sun direction in the viewport. I turn the environment off on the final render.
ah i see, thanks for the clarification.
I'm having trouble tracking down the HDR images and 3DS Max scene. The link sends me to a deadend? Can you help @arch viz champ
So whats causing the light source for the shadows?? the sun position on vray hdri? as u didnt used any vray sun...
Chowdhury Md Junayed Yes, the light and shadows are produced by the HDRI. There is no other lights in the scene.
why is that dome light not visible in the render
thanks for the tut, i've got some questions: did you use vray sun? and if you did, any thing should i notice?
I only used vray dome light with hdri
Arch Viz Camp thank you.
Great tutorial, thanks ! I'm actually working on a render for the university and I'd like to have black edges around the pool too but I can't do it. Would you help me ?
Is it possible map a HDRI map without Vray?
Great Tutorial, liked the video but i do have one question.Whenever i check ''use environment background'' HDRI displays as pure white in viewport, no matter what values i change, it stays the same.solution you gave to Rafael didn't help, still pure white.NOTE:ONLY IN VIEWPORT!when i render it's normal
glox023 Did you copy the HDRI to the environment slot as an "instance" and then reduced the "overall mult" in the material editor?
Arch Viz Camp Yeah i did that, but it's still white, it's like it can't display anything but that, like it's not down to settings, but Max takes it as a solid white.I will try tomorrow again
glox023 You should change "mapping type" .
where do I find the use textures @ 2:17 in 3DS Max 2016?
nevermind I found it. and heres a more efficient way and script if anyone is interested ruclips.net/video/6kxRUMzyvDE/видео.html

tNice tutorials tutorial was very satisfying
Great Tutorial, thank you very much!
