I was very pleased to have had the opportunity to watch Strangers again, as it was the only series detective or otherwise, that I made a point of watching every week. For some reason I warmed to Don Henderson’s character, Sgt George Bulman. I have never watched much TV, but I was surprised to learn that there were series called the XYY Man and Bulmer pre-dating and post-dating Strangers, respectively. I am even more surprised that there were series 1,2,4 and 5 of Strangers. Until I discovered this channel I was only aware of and had watched series 3! It is a shame that future generations will not become acquainted with the likes of Bulman by reason of the old TV format and low-resolution recording media used pre-nineties, although in 1976 Don Henderson chose to appear in a film of a then moribund genre for a three-minute scene as General Cassio Tagge (the film being released in 1977), thereby ensuring that he will be remembered for another fifty-years at least.

I remembered the hamster in the Sputnik scene from the first time around way back in 1982. I never thought I'd get to see it again. Thanks for uploading.

A most enjoyable 5 series of 'Strangers', that was looked forward to each week. Not as slick as some Cop series but hard it's own charm ! Many thanks.

John Woodvine and Patrick Mower starred as cops in some very hard-hitting 1970s crime shows as Special Branch, New Scotland Yard, and Target, all of which I dug. So, it seems fitting to end this particular cop show with the help of those two veteran actors.

And Mower was also in Callan of course. I haven't seen Target for many a moon, and would be interested to see if it still stands up. Obviously gonna be dated, but hopefully in a good way.

@@johndrake2729 I just checked and there are several up there, but not episode 1, amongst others. Seems they were never available on DVD. Apparently, the series was based in Southampton. I can't think of another series based there.

@FoogouFilms That show was controversial at the time for its level of violence, and I think Mary Whitehouse had something to do with getting it off the air. I found that kind of odd because she never attacked The Sweeney or The Professionals, either, I don't think. And Mower chose to leave the show because he didn't want to be typecast.

@@johndrake2729 Yes, good point about The Sweeney and The Professionals not coming under the spotlight for violence.
I can't place Mower being in much else on TV until Emmerdale (not shown in the States though I shouldimagine) some twenty years later

Good things must come to an end (sigh) ...
I have always wanted to see this series, so many thanks for posting it. Thanks to you, I have enjoyed it quite well! I've seen XYY Man and Bulman in the past yet feel that Strangers, despite some duds here and there, is far superior to the other two (well, I'd say XYY Man being a closer second to Strangers).

Cheers for your comments. I'd largely agree with your musings. I'll be continuing with Bulman from next Monday, but as you've seen them etc... Still, I guess there's an audience out there who've never seen them.
Am currently looking for a quality series to upload that isn't already o YT - a bit of a tall order. Still, this channel is unmonetised, so no pressure. Anyway, it'll give me an opportunity to examine my old recorded from TV video collection to see if there are any nuggets there.

There are several scenes in certain episodes where he can be seen not wearing the gloves. Perhaps the director chose careful angles so as to hide Henderson's wedding ring?
