- While it feels like distant history to some, it wasn't long ago that university experiences were not integrated. By acknowledging the history of Purdue University, we know the students whose early actions for equity and access to education impacted the lives of generations of Boilermakers.
That is the case of the Parker Sisters, who paved the way to integrate student housing in the late 1940s. Purdue University recently recognized their courageous actions by renaming two residence halls in their honor: Frieda Parker Hall and Winifred Parker Hall. The Parker Residence Halls are the first buildings on campus to be named for Black alumnae.

So special that these sisters are being honored.💕👍
Beautiful story. Make me even more proud to be a Purdue University (Global) Graduate 🖤💛🎓👩🏿⚕️👩🏾🎓
@Shan J Love hearing from the Boiler community!
I read about these courageous sisters in Ever True by John Norberg. They are true Boilermakers. I loved the video. Winifred's daughter stated the truth so eloquently about the power of diversity. The entire video made me cry, reminding me of that long ago NAACP commercial, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste."
What hall was renamed?
Hello! Griffin Halls are the renamed buildings.Thank you!
