    Thanks for the video. I love that the battery is replaceable on this unit.

    Thanks for the great review! I am a backcountry heli pilot in Alaska who also does a lot of hunting and hiking in my off time. The fact you had the Aviation perspective on glthe device helped a lot. I would have been interested in seeing more of what the flight profile on the device entailed, but understand you can't include everything. Thanks a ton.

    I got the 700i arriving today, until I get a spare battery I’ll have to remember and bring my big blue folding solar panels to charge while out in the woods for an extended period

      Thats awesome. Hope you enjoy it. It has a few frustrations when it comes to figuring out Garmin's way of thinking and getting all your maps sorted out. But generally is a very reliable and solid unit! Good idea about the solar panels.

    Garmin Montana 750i கருவியை கடல் Marine basement rock , Coral reefs இருக்கும் இடங்களை பதிவு செய்து குறித்து கொள்ள முடியுமா ?
    (Marine GPS ஆக பயன்படுத்த முடியுமா ) இது குறித்து மேலதிக தகவல்கள் எனக்கு பயனுள்ளதாக இருக்கும்.

    Do you need a memory card? If so, how many GB do you recommend? TIA

    • @mountainmode
      @mountainmode  2 года назад

      You can get by without one. Its actually very tricky to manage what gets saved to SD card and what gets saved to internal memory. I wanted to have all maps etc saved to SD, but couldn't find a way to actually do that. So, I am back to using internal memory and have not run into an issue with getting low on space. I think if you wanna use lots of Birdseye imagery that might start to use lots of space, so that's probably a good use case. I think 16 or 32G would be more than enough.

    Besides bad battery life when WiFi an Bluetooth on it’s a great device

    • @mountainmode
      @mountainmode  3 года назад +1

      Yeah. In fact, now that I have used this device for a prolonged time, I have a few small frustrations with it. Overall its still solid and great, but there are a few things Garmin really could improve. I might work on a video looking at some of those.

    • @jaredwhite489

      @@mountainmode Typing on the device is cumbersome, the keyboard jumps around when you tap a letter. Tracking randomly starts an stops….a lot of little bugs.

    Is there any way to get aviation maps sow loaded to it?

    • @mountainmode
      @mountainmode  3 года назад +1

      Unfortunately not. It seems like Garmin keep aviation maps separated from their outdoor units. Not sure why. You can create a custom map, but it’s not easy. So in theory you could get a digital aviation map and do some work to get it onto the unit. But that’s not very practical.

    Can you please tell me what vehicle mount you used for this? I don't see a vehicle mount. Also need to figure out how to put a clip on it to attach to pocket or backpack sling... I have one they didn't make it too easy to carry. Also does his have some type of aviation chart? Doesn't seem like it

    • @mountainmode
      @mountainmode  3 года назад

      Hey. So I was using the suction cup vehicle mount. You should be able to see it in the video. There are a few close up shots of it. You can see it here too (buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/pn/010-12881-00). There is a hole to attach a lanyard for when you are hiking etc and worried about dropping it.
      This is not compatible with Garmin Aviation charts. So, as a primary flying gps it wouldn't work. I use it as a secondary, giving me good terrain data and being available for when I land and then hike on. Hope that's helpful? Are you in SA, or international?

    • @sofloemir
      @sofloemir 3 года назад

      @@mountainmode I'm in USA (FL) I think they made a great unit but it drives me crazy that I can't clip it to my pants or belt. They offer a clip for 66i, but not this one. I found a generic vehicle mount for phones that'll work for this I think. The suction mount works well I see for the Cessna. Very expensive though... I am still messing with it. I like that it has aviation data which is neat. You can install custom maps on it so I'm going to see if I can upload aviation charts to it.

    • @mountainmode
      @mountainmode  3 года назад +1

      Yeah good idea about custom charts. Here in Lesotho I loaded all our common waypoints, and even made a 'track' like that I have showing on the map that marks where the airspace boundary is. Its a work around but does the job for that particular thing.

    Do you have to purchase maps?

    • @mountainmode
      @mountainmode  Год назад +1

      No. You can buy official ones from garmin, but you can find a lot of good open source maps online for free. Check out gpsfiledepot.com.

  • @jaredwhite489

    How’d you get a flying profile?

    • @mountainmode
      @mountainmode  2 года назад +1

      I made it as a custom profile. Doesn't give you airspace etc, but does allow you to set data fields and map layout as you might want it for flying

    I'd rather have replaceable battery then in-reach ability I'd never use.

    • @mountainmode
      @mountainmode  Год назад +1

      Its strange you cant have both. I prefer InReach but would love a battery pack too. There must be some reason those two things can be on one device

      just an idea but why not add some velcro to the back of your device and velcro a battery pack that's external to your device? or if going for space saving get a say 3 to 6 ft cord just route the cord and when you need more battery plug it in to the external battery pack?
