Fantastic guide, thank you! Now I want to switch my monk alt to PoJ/Shenlong from Raiment/Shenlong (actually had a post on reddit a month back asking if this was feasible and got told no way. Seeing it fleshed out and explained by a pro I know how it really could have worked amazingly). I'm wondering though, does the 6 piece 15k% dmg boost only apply while channeling TR or does the bonus linger for a time after you stop casting?
New follower here! Was wondering how much stronger the POJ TR is compared to the WUKO set? I see almost everyone using the POJ but my wuko seems to be fine at 110 currently with the only problem being rift guardians taking over 1:30.
Nice guide! Really helped me out alot. Only thing i did different is wearing the Vengfull wind. Instead of Azurewrath. Wich gives u 65% movespeed at 13 stacks of weeping wind. Idk if this makes the build weaker in any view. But i like moving a bit faster with this build. Cause it moves pretty slow otherwise.
Raxx, I seem to be able to keep 100% uptime with my Epiphany on this build pretty easily with the Obsidian Ring. You mentioned that it's not possible...could I be missing something?
Same question, I definitely don't need Serenity to keep Epiphany up 100% of the time if I'm going through mobs even 50% of the rift. I do still use Serenity because whenever I activate Epiphany, I drop Tempest Rush but this doesn't happen when I activate Serenity. That and sometimes you just gotta sit in an affix for a couple more seconds and that invulnerability is clutch at high GRs.

i noticed on your 120 push you were using the slanderer/little rogue set, how is that in comparison to shenlong, i also noticed its pretty split down the middle between the 2 on the LB
Quick question, since the PoJ set bonus gives SW all runes anyway why not use the cold damage rune so that SW damage turns to cold? The only effect this has is taking advantage of the cold damage from your gear to improve SW which may not be your top damage source but is a damage source nonetheless.
You certainly can, it just adds so little damage that I chose the other rune to show where the resource gen was coming from. But its better than nothing
I love this build. I like to mess around and try new things and I found a way to run it a little differently and I’ve come to really like it... - I wear Squirts instead of Flavor of time - I use a Molten Wildebeast Gizzard instead of Bane of the Stricken to help keep Squirts up - I don’t use Epiphany, instead I go with Cylcone strike so that I can choose the cold rune to go with Won Kim Lau’s cyclone strikes and that not only procs Cesars Memento, when it freezes the enemies it pulls in, it also gives me better survivability than if they aren’t frozen, most enemies die before there ever unfrozen - I don’t use a Mantra either, instead I use Mystic Aly Air Aly for resource regen, because... - I also use Echoing Fury in the cube instead of Lefebvres Soliloquy. To me that seems to build up the Flurry stacks very fast and adds a ton of damage output while building the stacks because things are getting hit so many times so fast, but without enough RCR and/or resource generation, it can burn through Spirit, so the passive effect from Mystic Aly manages that pretty well, and of course you can always use it actively if needed but I rarely have to. I basically hold down Serenity at all times and the 4 seconds of invincibility will proc the 200% life per second shield from Molten Wildebeast Gizzard. Since there is no Epiphany, all of the procs from Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac will go towards Serenity once it drops off, and Blinding Flash. This helps to get Serenity right back up in only a couple seconds. Between Serenity and the protective shield from Molten Wildebeast Gizzard, it pretty much preserves Squirts most of the time. If the cheat death passive procs between Serenities, the high LPS from Molten Wildebeast Gizzard allows you to run like a coward for a quick sec to regenerate life to full, get Serenity back up, and then shield back up. I also hold down Blinding Flash because it does not interrupt my Flurry stacks and keeps up the +29% damage for 3 seconds virtually at all times. Then when I want to release the Flurry stacks I manually Cyclone Strike and that releases the Flurry bomb. I play on console though and some things might be different, I don’t know. Edit: I should also note that I’m only around GR 115-120 but with no augments, but I realize it’s entirely possible that it’s just not feasible to continue with Squirts, but so far so good, and I look forward to slapping on a full round of augments. Also, I forgot to mention I go with Life Per Second as the preferred defensive stat on gear where I can to make the Molten Wildebeast Gizzard shield stronger, but I don’t give up damage output for it
That was going to be my comment, the squirts probably won't work in the higher GRs because the damage is too high, but that's a great set up for farming!
Hey Raxx, because your detailed explanation i play monk (PoJ Tempest rush) for the first time untill D3 was released. But i have serious problem with survivability. I'm 1278 paragon but i'm one shoted very often at 105-110 level... I dont know what i'm missing...
Hi Dario, it looks like you don't have a single life on hit roll on a weapon or bracers. that will really help you stay alive. that and finding more ancients and augging your character, along with getting all rest on your boots and you should be good to go
Found an ancient rimeheart with cold dmg, +6dmg%, Lph. Rolled cdr 8%. A lot of people are using azure wrath, but I think since most TR monks use flurry, 20% chance to hit plus 10k to frozen enemies seems much better. Thoughts?
The 10000% damage looks tempting doesn't it? But unfortunately it doesn't do any damage : /. Try it and you'll see. Rimeheart is unusable until Blizz changes it :*(
@raxxanterax Just a heads up, it looks like you are using Istvan's Set in your video. That is a weapon option that you didn't go over in the build portion. It may be worth it to add a blurb about them.
You probably won't see this but I have a question: Sometimes my Monk gets "stuck" and loses Tempest Rush, and the character itself calls out "I cannot use that skill right now" as if Tempest Rush is on Cooldown. I use right-click same as you. It seems to happen if I'm hovering over an enemy but not consistently when I do so. Any thoughts? Does this happen to you as well? Note: I'm always in Epiphany (can actually get 100% up-time even without using Serenity).
Hi Shadow, I read every comment on every video. The only time my monk gets stuck is sometimes tempest rush can bug on giant enemies, like golgors and mallet lords which has to do with teleporting from epiphany while tempest rushing. Does that have something to do with it?
@@Raxxanterax That makes sense, it tends to happen on bigger elite mobs. I noticed it yesterday on the Act V enemies that spawn a bunch of rats (can't recall the name off-hand), as well as the teleporting beasts and mallet lords. I noticed that if I try keeping my cursor to the edges of the screen where there are no mobs, it happens less frequently but still happens. Thanks for replying/confirming - might stick to WD SB build for my "building stacks and exploding bomb" build needs lol.
for the end of video footage of running the GR you said you weren't using shenlongs so what weapon setup were you running there because im assuming the rest of the gear stayed the same as the shenlong setup?
So i went with PoJ monk for season 28 and I am wondering why azure wrath over vengeful wind, the bonus cold damge is nice but wouldn't flat damage from more stacks of sweeping wind be really strong too?
Only issue with this is area damage will cause the game to lag bad on higher rift runs unless you have another way. But for solo it would work for me since I usually zmonk in groups
Instead of Blind isn't it easier to use Cyclone Strike with cold rune, and have all the enemies frozen? This way you have that Tempest Rush boost ALL the time, not just after the blind...
@@Raxxanterax cool. So cyclone strike (even though it’s auto cast when rushing with Won Khim Lau ) does not effect damage.. the reason I asked was because I also have a WW rend barb and all the damage from that comes from rend not WW.. the same on my hungering arrow GoD DH build. Is this because of set bonuses vs single item bonuses.. I’ve only been back in the game for 6 weeks or so and still figuring out ‘patterns’ to look for as far as game mechanics go
Hi Rax, I tried this BD but I found it’s pretty hard to accumulate the layer of Tempest Rush to 100, I do hold my right click all the time and sometimes it was interrupted by attacks from enemies and sometimes it just stopped, could you tell me the tips to keep the layer to 100?
If you keep your epiphany up all the time and don't run into giant enemies (golgors, mallet lords) as long as you're holding right click it should accumulate. So the top 2 tips are: keep epiphany up always, and avoid very large enemies
Now if you could just convince people to not use this build in groups. It's fun solo, but ruins group play because of the non stop crowd control. TR makes any kind of pull barb unable to function. Thanks for new content! I might try it out since the season is still young. I've never played so many classes at such a high level in one season. Isolation=playing d3.
Another question. if you are using captain crimson set. should you also roll for Resource Cost Reduction for added damage reduction? or just roll for CDR for more damage?
Hi Raxx, do you know why on my boots and pants I can't roll all ress? got dex and vit and it only let me roll +hp/sec, armor, or +dmg bonus to few skills
im here from the maxroll guide and im wondering why the helm, chest piece, unity ring, and belt are the ones selected and not something for more set bonuses for the GR solo push variant. Anyone help explain?
casually 2358T + 880T bomb lol whilst I reach 10,8 tops, although you have a more in-depth strategy stacking triggers perfectly and nailing the timing. I wait for 100 flurry stacks and boom lol.
I think this season this set wins because we can cube shenlongs (don't have to use vengeful wind). outside of this season they're very close. I think this POJ set up is easier to play though
@AmplifiedSilence no its proc most of the time only need to manage your resource as double speed ... and dps is double... am wondering why no one using it
If you get the all res on everything, then harmony loses value and you can swap it. But perfect gear is hard to get. Harmony is great until you get everything
I really don't get it, how you can just simply get passed GR 70 so easily, i have 1kk hp, 1kk dmg, crimsonb set, justice set, and 1 hit from anything kills me. At Gr 70 i can only enchant to lv 72, so impossible builds you put up, having 150 rank, Why don't you show the real thing, the way to build up the char, pasting things like this only makes me wonder, if there will be a time where i can get passed the GR 70, which again, its impossible, anything kills me one hit. 1kk hp, 1kk dmg. augmented the weapon at what i could at the time, with a lv 50 gem, only 2 primals and nothing to do, i don't even try anymore, just do my GR 70s hoping for a primal which never comes

Glad you liked it Nathan, I think the damage boost goes away from the bomb
Great guide mate, new to the class and this helped a ton!
You're very welcome my friend!
If it works for you my friend, then you're doing it right : ). Can always change the guide a bit to fit your playstyle
Post a link to your armory. Let me see what might be different
@@Raxxanterax us.diablo3.com/en/profile/Halt-1630/hero/120531340 I have no problem with 100% Epiphany uptime with my Electric Field/TR Build (not using flurry)
@@Raxxanterax Here you go: www.d3planner.com/489937281. Note that it says 61.91 for cooldown reduction there, but in my game it's actually 61.87. Not sure why, maybe I entered something wrong.

Do you think the Justice is stronger than the Sunwuko? Just started with Sunwuko and I'm almost to GR100. I love the toughness with the Sun set.
Sunwuko and Justice are about even except for during S20, because justice can wear shenlongs. But if you really like Sunwuko just stick with that :D
@@Raxxanterax thanks bro! Love the content!
Thank you, I'll give your suggestions a try - I've been stuck on 110 for a while now. I've been trying to get an ancient legendary helm for ages now and I can't get one.
Give it a shot and let me know how it goes :)
Amazing guide as usual! Definitely maining Monk in S21
Awesome Cole!
i noticed on your 120 push you were using the slanderer/little rogue set, how is that in comparison to shenlong, i also noticed its pretty split down the middle between the 2 on the LB
I think Shenlong is much better, I only used slanderer / little rogue because I didn't have shenlongs at the time : )
I love this monkamonk build!!! T16 SPEEEED!!! Great video as always mr chipotle
It's my little flower
Quick question, since the PoJ set bonus gives SW all runes anyway why not use the cold damage rune so that SW damage turns to cold? The only effect this has is taking advantage of the cold damage from your gear to improve SW which may not be your top damage source but is a damage source nonetheless.
You certainly can, it just adds so little damage that I chose the other rune to show where the resource gen was coming from. But its better than nothing
I love this build. I like to mess around and try new things and I found a way to run it a little differently and I’ve come to really like it...
- I wear Squirts instead of Flavor of time
- I use a Molten Wildebeast Gizzard instead of Bane of the Stricken to help keep Squirts up
- I don’t use Epiphany, instead I go with Cylcone strike so that I can choose the cold rune to go with Won Kim Lau’s cyclone strikes and that not only procs Cesars Memento, when it freezes the enemies it pulls in, it also gives me better survivability than if they aren’t frozen, most enemies die before there ever unfrozen
- I don’t use a Mantra either, instead I use Mystic Aly Air Aly for resource regen, because...
I literally just rolled a monk for this set. Super pumped
Nice Chris, let me know how you like it
Great video, explains alot. I had problems with being feared, frozen, pushed… now I know why. But there is no way around opening doors?
No way around doors unfortunately, just have to open them and drop the stacks : /
@@Raxxanterax Not true. You just get your wife to open the door for you! :)
for the speed build variant of this why would we take cyclone strike as an ability if it activates that from our weapon we use the Won Khim
Hey Raxx, because your detailed explanation i play monk (PoJ Tempest rush) for the first time untill D3 was released. But i have serious problem with survivability. I'm 1278 paragon but i'm one shoted very often at 105-110 level... I dont know what i'm missing...
this is my build: www.d3planner.com/699336653
Hi Dario, it looks like you don't have a single life on hit roll on a weapon or bracers. that will really help you stay alive. that and finding more ancients and augging your character, along with getting all rest on your boots and you should be good to go
@@Raxxanterax Thank you very much professor! I will looking for such rolls!
Found an ancient rimeheart with cold dmg, +6dmg%, Lph. Rolled cdr 8%. A lot of people are using azure wrath, but I think since most TR monks use flurry, 20% chance to hit plus 10k to frozen enemies seems much better. Thoughts?
Also, good content! Been watching your vids since I’ve started play d3!
The 10000% damage looks tempting doesn't it? But unfortunately it doesn't do any damage : /. Try it and you'll see. Rimeheart is unusable until Blizz changes it :*(
Raxxanterax maybe that 10k damage is a placebo effect 😂.
@raxxanterax Just a heads up, it looks like you are using Istvan's Set in your video. That is a weapon option that you didn't go over in the build portion. It may be worth it to add a blurb about them.
That is what I was using, but I don't think this option is better than the ones I outlined in the video, that's why I skipped over it
You probably won't see this but I have a question: Sometimes my Monk gets "stuck" and loses Tempest Rush, and the character itself calls out "I cannot use that skill right now" as if Tempest Rush is on Cooldown.
I was using little rogue and slanderer
@@Raxxanterax Thanks for the reply. Do you think monks will lean more towards the PoJ set again or keep sunwokus for this upcoming season?
Will TR still activate Cyclone Strike even if you don't have it equipped?
Yes, with won kim lau
@@Raxxanterax Sweet. I didn't know that. I have had it equipped this whole time. Much appreciated.
You're welcome my friend!
So i went with PoJ monk for season 28 and I am wondering why azure wrath over vengeful wind, the bonus cold damge is nice but wouldn't flat damage from more stacks of sweeping wind be really strong too?
Hey Raxx, is this build still viable for S21? any changes to make?
Still viable exactly as is!
When doing the GR speed version, do you just never let go of Tempest Rush or are you just constantly letting Flurry blow up?
I let it blow up once I arrive to elites
Raxxanterax and then just chain dash to another elite skipping everything else?
I would skip most things unless it’s super valuable / dense trash
Only issue with this is area damage will cause the game to lag bad on higher rift runs unless you have another way. But for solo it would work for me since I usually zmonk in groups
Thanks Rax!
You're welcome Simon!
Instead of Blind isn't it easier to use Cyclone Strike with cold rune, and have all the enemies frozen? This way you have that Tempest Rush boost ALL the time, not just after the blind...
The freeze on top of the pull will make it impossible to pull things together to use area damage. That’s why we use blind
While using won khan lau it auto attacks with cyclone kick.. does a cyclone damage on shoulders help or does it have to be tempest rush only?
Tempest Rush is where the damage comes from
@@Raxxanterax cool.
I’ve only been back in the game for 6 weeks or so and still figuring out ‘patterns’ to look for as far as game mechanics go
Ah yes, it does get confusing. 100% of our damage is Tempest Rush here
@@Raxxanterax thanks man. Cheers
during stacking you can press mantra button to get 100 stacks faster
what the buzz thanks raxx
I got an ancient won khim lau today with LPSS and vit, no LoH. which should i reroll to area dmg?
reroll life per second to AD
Dope content here is a sub
Appreciate that my friend!
@@Raxxanterax have you tried the slanderers set?
Hi Rax, I tried this BD but I found it’s pretty hard to accumulate the layer of Tempest Rush to 100, I do hold my right click all the time and sometimes it was interrupted by attacks from enemies and sometimes it just stopped, could you tell me the tips to keep the layer to 100?
If you keep your epiphany up all the time and don't run into giant enemies (golgors, mallet lords) as long as you're holding right click it should accumulate. So the top 2 tips are: keep epiphany up always, and avoid very large enemies
@@RaxxanteraxI'll try it later, thanks for your reply Raxx!!!
Hi Raxx, thanks for this..
Good point, its not good in groups, but hopefully people know that
Another question. if you are using captain crimson set. should you also roll for Resource Cost Reduction for added damage reduction? or just roll for CDR for more damage?
CDR is usually what we're going for, but if you end up with a bit of RCR it will definitely help you survive
Hi Raxx, do you know why on my boots and pants I can't roll all ress? got dex and vit and it only let me roll +hp/sec, armor, or +dmg bonus to few skills
You can't roll all resist on an armor piece if it has a secondary resistance on it
Hi i have one question.what happens with your seasonal characters when season ends?
They move to the non season category, and you get to keep everything (paragon levels, gems, characters, items, plans, etc)
@@Raxxanterax ok thanks i played this on ps3 till now so this is new stuff for me
Shenlong would be super nice if it was not bugged AF. I mean 50% of the time when you got full spirit it doesn't proc the passive...
I was noticing that as well... thought it was just me
Justice vs Sunwoko
which variant is stronger for Solo Tempest Rush Build?
Thanks
For S20, I like Justice better because you can use shenlongs (don't have to use vengeful wind)
@@Raxxanterax which build can push further
Justice
When does lightning damage on the weapon become useful?
its not useful at all, we take it for its legendary power only
Raxxanterax wouldn't it help if we roll one of the lightning damage to cold damage for tempest rush since tempest rush is cold?
You can’t reroll that affix, otherwise yes, that would help
How does this build compare to the Sunwuko variant? Which one is better?
they're almost identical in power
Great insight
Thank you Pat
im here from the maxroll guide and im wondering why the helm, chest piece, unity ring, and belt are the ones selected and not something for more set bonuses for the GR solo push variant. Anyone help explain?
casually 2358T + 880T bomb lol whilst I reach 10,8 tops, although you have a more in-depth strategy stacking triggers perfectly and nailing the timing. I wait for 100 flurry stacks and boom lol.
Yeah when all of the multipliers align its mega damage!
its quite a purely solo build. Its quite laggy in group play
Is this still applies to Season 21? Not much has change for Monk really.
Yes it does
i just started with a monk after watching your video got everything in just 2 hours on t6 lucky me its so much fun
awesome my friend!
Do you know if have some bug on life on hit? ..
Everytime I use my Blinding Flash(which is in my left click) I stop channeling Flurry stacks. Is this normal?
Yes, when you blind you want your flurry to detonate
How is it compare to the sunwuko tempest rush set?
I think this season this set wins because we can cube shenlongs (don't have to use vengeful wind). outside of this season they're very close. I think this POJ set up is easier to play though
Hi Rax try with flying dragon instead of shenlong
ok I'll give it a shot
@@Raxxanterax try it in kanai's cube
@AmplifiedSilence no its proc most of the time only need to manage your resource as double speed ... and dps is double... am wondering why no one using it
awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it!
why use harmony if you are taking all res?
If you get the all res on everything, then harmony loses value and you can swap it. But perfect gear is hard to get. Harmony is great until you get everything
How do you detonate the stacks
Thanks
Welcome
Press shift and 'L' in game and copy top leader board monks using poj set. U need to optimise your gear correctly. Second resist on everything and all res on your belt pants and boots. Spam your mantra. Use defensive passives. Watch guides.
New meta?
Hi
Don't you think this build is better for T16? www.d3planner.com/243652039
It has Nemesis + Sage's Ribbon
Also, do you think the second variation could work as a good RGK?
If you need DBs its a good option, but I always have millions of them and never need them, so I don't use sages ever. TR is a decent RGK, but its worse than heavens fury, frenzy, and impale. Not the RGK of choice
2.368 quadrillion damage in one hit on guardian...
this build sucks in season 26, don't do it. Monk has been nerfed pretty hard this season.
Firsties!
Thanks sexy
You bet!

The NERD in this one is strong! ...I'll take 2 :)
how the fuck do you have primal everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t, D3planner shows primal everything, that isn’t my gear
Decided to make try a Monk set other than the one I use to farm for cosmetics. This one's been a blast so far. I love how it plays and honestly, if wizard's don't get enough love before s22 starts, I might make a monk right after making a rat barb to push!
Monks are amazing!
