Worth, never lose your common touch. There are a lot of dummies out here, but when you are old AND a dummy, well, we need all the people like you we can get. Great vid.
Hey, just signed in and saw your comment. Yes, most routers have some kind of reset button which puts everything back to the default (factory) settings. In many cases, perhaps not all, it does so *temporarily* so if you have a sort of window of opportunity to enter a new password if you forgot the one you had, etc. Hope that makes sense.
Yes, it typically resets everything. In a lot of cases, it does so temporarily so if you want to put in new settings you have a window of time to do so, or if you decide not to change things, it goes back to the way it was. Yes, it does have to be turned on. There are a lot of variations from one manufacturer to another, so it may be that some require you to press and hold the button while you turn it on (plug it in) but most (if not all) usually would need it turned on. Hope that makes sense.
You explain very well but, I think you spend TOO much time on explaining what a power cord is and what it does. If people cannot figure out which one is power cord and where it goes then, they are in bigger problem. It would have been very useful if you could talk a bit more about how to connect different types of connection. For example, wireless. I have problem with my wireless connection and it would be very helpful to know a bit more about setting it up and understanding the physical connection of modem, router, cable access, computer etc. Thank you very much for all your help.
hey i have a question... what does the little button on the router beside the wireless antenna.. restore factory settings.. what does it do? does it reset the router settings?
thx so the button will reset all the settings including password? so its just temporary. does the router have to be on to initiate the sequence? pushing the button i mean
Thanks I'm number 151,220 and ONE OF 220 who said "Like" . You have made a 78 year old understand something I was completely ignorant about. Next I shall find out if I "need" a WIFI.
ERIC FRY Glad I could help, Eric. I made this video for people like yourself; sometimes other people don't read the description and don't like the video because it wasn't recorded for them. I teach in a style designed to help the people who need my help the most; you can't please everybody.
Hard to say without knowing the exact error message. FYI, I think most routers which use the 192-format IP address use 192.168.1.1 not 2.1 Hope that helps.
Heh. Woops. Think I should be eating instead of posting comments on RUclips -- just realized I repeated myself there. Better go eat and fix my low blood sugars... :)
Sounds like maybe the password reset worked but the router is just having trouble connecting to the modem (which would mean your computer would see the router but not be able to get on the Internet... kind of like getting static or a blank screen on a TV -- it still turns on but there's no signal).
hey, i have a problem setting up my wireless router.. i forgot my password and i reset it like u said but when i tried to connect it again it didnt work.. on the router appears a red light where the little picture of the modem is.. why is that? please help
Well, it should be on the back. It's not very large, and may be recessed so you need a pen. I forget on that exact model but Linksys usually has them like that.
It's possible the router is actually broken -- using the reset button shouldn't turn off the wireless, at least not on any of the various models I've worked on for clients over the years...
Can some one help me i cant log into my router when i type 192.168.2.1 and i tryed an other IP but i cant log in thing i change some thing called Ac.... Point in the router cant really rember help plz.
