  • AE Tutorial episode 3. I work my way through the array of controls and show how to set them up. It's a long video but there is a lot to cover so I keep the pace up and you might need to hit pause now and then if you're following along with your Aerophone Pro.
    The first two episodes covered the front page of the editor, this episode looks at the Common, Internal, and MIDI Out pages and shows you how to set up the controls including how to change up the effects settings from a touch of the S1 button.
    This series of videos aims to take you up the learning curve without going through the struggles I had making sense of this amazing instrument. Despite years of experience with synthesizers I found the Aerophone to be one of the most frustrating to learn to program. On the surface it seemed straightforward but things often didn't work the way I expected. I did the research, so you don't have to!

    Really appreciate the deep dives on both vibrato and motion controls. This gives me lots on new ideas to try out. Please keep these videos coming. There is no one else I know that is making content like this: slow, detailed examinations of the finer details of the Aerophone.

      Thanks again! I'm researching the next video - next up is on the Parts "layer". I thought it would be an easy one but there are many possibilities for layering, cross-fading etc.

      Wow yeah that's what I'm working on now: trying to use the 4 different "partials" or layers and crossfading between them to emulate guitar techniques like palm muting and pinch harmonics. Hopefully the end result is that I can play a regular note on my AE-30 and hit the palm keys to quickly crossfade to sounds that will emulate these guitar techniques.

    Not only do you PLAY...you also TEACH! That's great Mick! I'm so glad you spoke up and I met you! While I personally don't play a wind instrument, I play a few other things. ;)
    I appreciate the effort it takes. Off to dig around your channel! Talk to you later.

      Hi again Luke, this one was a monster. Not only was there a ton of research to condense but everything that could go wrong went wrong all the way through production! Still I'm hoping it enables people to get their teeth into the Aerophone. Yep, I'm glad RUclips finally decided to share your channel with me. A guy I jam with has an eye-watering amount of Eurorack so I sent him a link to your Berlin tutorial and we'll give it a try.

    Is there an option to set the midi instruction for the Aerophone to control the other devices?
    Like I want to setup the AE to send instruction to my Yamaha PSR to play chords or change the registers.
    Thanks,

      Thanks for watching. Yes, it can be set up though the app. I create a custom Scene for each hardware synth. One of my videos covers setting up to control another synth - Playing my Neutron from my wind synth.
      The AE-30 is monophonic so it doesn't send chords. It does send patch change commands. Other possible MIDI commands are given in the Parameter Guide.

    Thank you very much . Your instruction is very very clear, and easy to understand. But I still have some questions. (1) Is there any method to control fade-in vibrato time ? I don't like to play the instrument every note from the very beginning to the end with vibrato. If there is a mehod to control fade-in vibrato time (for example, 100 ms... or so), I guess the sound would be more natural. (2) What is "cut-off" ? and what is MFX effect ? This is my kowledge problem, not your fault. Your tutorial is perfect ! Thank you.

      Hi George, thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
      1. Yes, you can set the Vibrato Delay in the Scene/Offset pages of the app (refer to the Parameter Guide). Unfortunately you will have to set this for each Part in each Scene that uses the automated vibrato. I will be covering those menus in my next video.
      2. Cut-off frequency is a feature of a low-pass filter. It controls the brightness of the sound. In the video I was controlling it with Elevation and Breath.
      3. The MFX effects are a set of effects that you can use on individual Tones in a scene. If you haven't watched them already, I recommend that you watch my first two videos in this series: Make A Scene and Fake Recorder.

    Hi Mick. I use my AE30 with an Android tablet, and am unable to rename a modified scene when using the Editor app. I wonder if you have ever seen this problem or have any thoughts on how it might be fixed? (I've tried rebooting the AE30, repairing both AE30 and tablet.) I have no problems saving and renaming directly from the LED screen on the Aerophone, just through the Editor app. Thanks in advance for any help you may offer. Love your channel.

      Hi there, you should be able to rename when you save (I demonstrate a save in the first tutorial). One thought... you are saving to a user slot, right?

      @@unclemick-synths I solved this problem, but you'll never guess what the problem was. When I went to rename the scene, the "OK" box grayed out, which on every other application I've used indicates it isn't functional. However, that is not the case with the Editor. With the "OK" grayed out, I made changes to the name, clicked the "OK" which was still grayed out. The "OK" then went back to normal white. I clicked the "OK" button a second time and it stored the renamed file. Not the behavior I expected, but I can work with it. Thanks for your help.

      I'm glad you got it sorted out. The app isn't perfect but when I checked out the documentation for other ZEN-Core products I realized we're fortunate to have the app!

    • @Belas_Photography
      @Belas_Photography 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@unclemick-synths Yes, it's better than nothing. By the way, have you ever modified the partial (wave) files that make up an instrument? It appears they are editable, but I don't recall ever hearing of anyone doing so. This is just an idle curiosity at the moment, but might be something I'll pursue in the future.

    • @unclemick-synths
      @unclemick-synths  8 месяцев назад

      I will be getting down to editing the partials and choosing the waveforms but I don't think there's a way to edit the actual waveforms themselves. I know it's now possible to import sample files from some Roland keyboards but I'm not sure if that's restricted to the AE-30. Once I've finished digging through the AE's other features I'm going to look into the possibility of converting samples from other sources because I have no interest in Roland's keyboards - the AE-30 gives me all the ZEN-Core I need and consequently other synths are higher on my wishlist.
