      I've never played the Wii or HD versions. Are those based on the GCN version or the PS2 port? I never knew the PS2 had so many downgrades

Pretty much any version of RE4 is fine, though the Wii port is popular for its pointer controls, and the PC port has mods to fix its issues.

    Thank you for doing actual proper research, especially for getting the origin story of RE3 right. So many people just pass around the rumour that Code Veronica was the original RE3 and it drives me up a wall. You got it absolutely spot on, the original RE3 ended up being scrapped and the development moved to the next get PS2. And since Capcom needed a sequel sooner on a PS1 they promoted the Last Escape/Nemesis to the next numbered entry. CV is not part of this story at all.

    • @ShadowEl
      @ShadowEl Год назад +29

      I think where Code Veronica comes in is that, between CV and Nemesis, Code Veronica was more in line with what a sequel to Resident Evil 2 would look like. They get conflated because Nemesis got given the numbered distinction when it would've made more sense for CV to be "Resident Evil 3", even if it was never under formal consideration to be so.

    I do feel that they are actually improving the story, it is a bit less campy then the original but they add so much context to the events, the gigante being put to sleep by an incantation because hes causing the village to starve, the story with the grandpa and the grandson being much more fleshed out, putting more light on how horrible what the plaga did to the village is by showing how the village chief was a kind and good man who only wanted to listen to and improve the lives of the villagers.

Not only did it go through development hell and back and came out alive and successful ratings wise , it helped practically give Capcom 2 other new IPs to their list, one of them especially becoming very popular aka Devil May Cry. I really hope after this Capcom puts their modern IPs on the backburner for as while. Give your legacy IPs some love for Peet’s sake. @MattMcMuscles  Год назад +21

      @demetriusnp49 Год назад +4

      @@MattMcMuscles Oh that’s not to say the game has its own kind of cheese, it does. I’ve watched the playthrough and it made some improvements, including Leon and Ashley’s dynamic. I just feel…they exchanged some of the old elements to intensify the seriousness angle. I feel like part of RE4’s charm is that it was serious…but also knows it ‘shoots the barrel’ if you know what I mean. Like the giant robot, movie laser scene, IT and even Leon’s lines. Part that charm is like they know its ridiculous, but played sincerely.
      Not to take away everything that the game has done, and I’m happy it did well. It’s just, RE4 is one of those games to where a simple remaster would’ve been more than enough like Metroid Prime.

    • @Beforezzz
      @Beforezzz Год назад +3

    • @demetriusnp49
      @demetriusnp49 Год назад +3

      @@Beforezzz That’s also true. What I meant to say was with cut content that made the OG RE4 so memorable to the fanbase, despite the improvements that the remake added. Was a remake of RE4 necessary? I personally felt like a remaster in the form of what Metroid Prime recently done would be more than enough, without taking away anything. But that’s my opinion.

RE2 was released in January, but the end of the year would also see Metal Gear Solid and Ocarina of Time, as well as Pokemon finally being released in the west. So yeah, RE2 was great, but was ultimately a drop in the bucket in one of the greatest years for gaming.
