    Today, I'm diving deep into one of the new features in Pro7.8:
    Network Link.
    In Pro6, if you wanted to control one computer from another, you had to pay extra to get the Master Control Module...AND the Master could control the slave, but that was it.
    Now, that's all changed. Any computer can control any other one...as long as they're set to do that.

    Thanks for the info. One thing that I am having trouble with is the slides that I have I a rotation. In the past, all I needed to do was set the rotation time on the master and it would trigger the slave computer. That does not happen anymore. The way that I have had to get around it is putting both on the same time number, 10sec, but inevitably one begins to lag behind. Am I missing something?

    I'm using ProPresenter 7.14. I wanted to note that if you are using two copies of the "free" version of ProPresenter on the same network, you can still get this working. You also need to be aware of indexing. So you have to make sure both copies of ProPresenter mirror each other. (not sure to what degree) I currently have two free copies on my home network controlling each other as discussed in this video. The network discovery thing is working in this version. :)

      Yep, they got that to work pretty quickly. I’m on 7.16.1 right now and it’s work great.

    This is really cool Paul. This looks great. I'm on a mission to make a "no single point of failure" pro presenter for my church. because sometimes pro presenter freezes up or the computer running it will mess up. Do you think this would work if I had 2 computers linked both with the same content. one goes down in the middle of a song, I just advance the slide from the second computer (essentially failing over to the backup). Thanks for your help!

    • @PaulClifford
      @PaulClifford  6 месяцев назад

      It should work. Since either computer could control the other, moving the operator and video out signal to the other should be pretty fast and seamless (if you have a video switcher for the video signal).

    So if my pastor has his laptop, but it's not outputting to anything, he could use that to change slides instead of using his phone? Cuz the phone stops working randomly and it's annoying, but hopefully this would be more reliable.

    • @PaulClifford
      @PaulClifford  2 года назад +2

      Yep. If you wanted to make it more reliable, still, put both machines in a wired network and you should be good.

  • @rmessnerjr
    @rmessnerjr 2 года назад +1

    That was a good use case (pastor changing his sermon slides).
    Question #1: You showed that you had to have the same playlist. Did you sync that down to each computer from a network storage location?

    • @PaulClifford
      @PaulClifford  2 года назад +2

      I actually used planning center to sync from one computer to the other.

    How do you sync the Playlist? Do I export from the main and import to the other?

    • @PaulClifford

      That's one way to do it. You can also sync with Planning Center. Either way.

      Using PP6 we were able to sync the main room computer with the studio computer, to control the lyrics through the streaming. We tried and it’s not switching out on the studio computer. What do you think that we might do? Nice channel! 👍🏽🙏🏽

    i am having two problems. 1. The song slides appear with no issue, but anything like a countdown video or song video will not appear. Also, I came in on Sunday and found my displays showing disconnected. Nothing I did reconnected the network link. Any ideas would be great.

      Hey! You probably already figured it out, but have the IP addresses as a static IP and the videos have to be in their own presentation folder, not just dragged and dropped. Hopefully that helps!

    Hi Paul,
    Thanks for the walk through here. When we test this feature, we're seeing a good 500ms of latency between the "click" at one computer and the change at the other. Any thoughts on that, or tips on how to minimize that?

    • @AJW74
      @AJW74 6 месяцев назад

      You could have network latency issues. There is a program called TCPoptimizer that is used to optimize connections to improve latency. It's mostly used by gamers but it might work here. I also note that the ability to take that command and act on it *might* be a function of processing and ram. Just a thought.

    I just got a new Mac Mini to set up for an Environmental Projection screen and have been trying to figure this out. On my older Windows machine, when I go to the network settings and click on enable, I can see my IP address and auto-assigned port number. When I do the same on the new Mac Mini, the IP address and Port fields are empty. I know the IP of the Mac Mini, and even if I assign a port number, I still can't add either computer to the group from either side. It just sits there trying to establish the connection forever. Any ideas? It's weird that the Mac Mini isn't showing a port number or IP address in the Pro7 Network settings, right? Is there some app permission to allow network access I need to do first?

    • @PaulClifford
      @PaulClifford  2 года назад

      I'd check that first in security and privacy in system preferences. It could be that you do need to allow it.

    • @n3dm3ch
      @n3dm3ch 2 года назад

      @@PaulClifford I checked the firewall settings, and the firewall is turned off by default on a new Mac. And I couldn't see anything under the Privacy section that looked like it would prevent or allow network usage (Mac's not my native OS, so I might be overlooking something). The Mac Mini can send and receive NDI to and from my PC, so it's definitely in the same network and has network access from within ProPresenter. I just can't see the IP/Port to set up the Network Link session.

      @@n3dm3ch I’ll have to look at it. It seems like I had that problem at first, but after I restarted pro7, it worked then and afterwards. Pro7.8.3 has added network detection. It’s a beta, but that might fix it too.

    • @n3dm3ch
      @n3dm3ch 2 года назад

      @@PaulClifford Thanks for taking the time to look at this. I've restarted Pro7 on both computers, and restarted both computers multiple times with no luck. Although my Windows machine threw a new firewall prompt when I started Pro7 after booting up this morning, so maybe something changed there. I'll have to retest that when I get back from a set-build later today.
      Renewed Vision support suggested trying the Beta as well. It's just a little unnerving that the release notes for the 7.8.3 Beta indicate that it was made public less than 24 hours after I put in a support ticket on this issue. It's probably coincidental, but has the feeling of being rushed.

    • @PaulClifford

      They've been working on the beta for a while. I can tell you that for sure. Cody, in the community, teased it a few days before it was released.

    If I want two computers to connect to the same output screen in the Sanctuary - I don't need an additional seat, correct? I just want someone to be able to make a change to an upcoming presentation in the playlist while the operator is advancing slides during the current worship song. Or for someone to prep a quick MESSAGE while the second person continues the song.

    • @PaulClifford
      @PaulClifford  2 года назад +1

      This feature is like a remote control. It’s not for updating presentations or sending messages. Apparently, I wasn’t clear in that.

      So in order to do this, you have to set up the second computers screen as another display? Or another screen? I was just confused on how to actually set this up. I’m excited about the feature but don’t know how to actually set it up. Any chance you could help a brother out?
