    "Blessings of St Genesius to you." ~Stephen Colbert to Jim Gaffigan
    Genesius of Rome is a legendary Christian saint, once a comedian and actor who had performed in plays that mocked Christianity. According to legend, while performing in a play that made fun of baptism, he had an experience on stage that converted him. He proclaimed his new belief, and he steadfastly refused to renounce it, even when the emperor Diocletian ordered him to do so.
    Genesius is considered the patron saint of actors, lawyers, barristers, clowns, comedians, converts, dancers, people with epilepsy, musicians, printers, stenographers, and victims of torture. His feast day is August 25.

      I went to a Catholic school, and before every theater performance I was in we would pray. At the end, we would always say "Saint Genesius, patron saint of actors, liars, and thieves, pray for us." Didn't know he was patron saint of so many other people as well!

      爆笑ごろりんch being Japanese and living in Japan is very very different than being 外人 and living in Japan. It’s often quite horrible living in Japan as a gaijin.

    • @shizuokaBLUES
      @shizuokaBLUES 6 лет назад +3

      Grihm Fayte people hate anyone outside their tribe especially if they feel encroachment on their territory. The world over.
      But here in Japan, it’s the constant institutional racism and the lack of legal protection for gaijin, even if they have high status visas and pay taxes and raise families here.
      The hatred is to be expected.
      The lack of protection for the gaijin worker is a throwback to 100 years ago.

      Every sport shown on TV is by definition entertainment. If it wasn't, you couldn't make the money to sustain it. That's not saying that Sumo wrestling isn't hard. But do is archery, American football and cross-country skiing.

    I love how polite and compassionate *most* Japanese people are compared to the rest of the world, but sometimes I think they can be too polite. For example business cards are seen as some sort of revered gift that you're pretty much forced to admire the thing for a long time, least they think of you as an uncultured swine. Too many nuances; it can all be a bit much, but I suppose it's better than not giving a shit at all.

    As someone who lives in Japan, it is easy to see Japan as being kind, caring, helpful, and welcoming. However, this is pushed to a fault at times: in business, it is required to do that, and it is enforced. Overall, people here are just as different among themselves as any other country's citizens can be. There are rude businessmen that spit on the train tracks and smoke in front of No Smoking signs. There are wonderful people who genuinely want to help you, invite you to their home, and want to get to know you. There are those who won't talk to foreigners even in Japanese, and there are those who will do their best to use all of the English they can. It's a country that is often generalized, but shouldn't be, and that's why I love it.
