Hey All, I know a lot of you have missed the riding clips as of recently. I've started a channel primarily short riding clips. I could use some subscribers to help jumpstart it! ruclips.net/channel/UCCFkehBNVnPA8g7KBx9ENIA
8:45 Most birds of prey (well, most birds) absolutely loooveee baths!! There is a rescue center for birds of prey in Alberta, and the visitors get to take a hose and spray mist on the birds being displayed. they just love it haha!
This is one of the best videos I've seen on RUclips all year. Not just biking vids either. The pacing, story telling, diagrams, etc. At no point did i want to fast-forward. Great content man!
Phil, I've been getting back into mountain biking really over the past year, and watching each of your videos is seriously a blast. They usually make me get pretty pumped up and ready to run out and hit some new trails, but this one just makes me jealous 🤣 Keep up the good work and thanks for being an inspiration to the community to get out there and rip it up on a bike!
I love this. I’ve been building bike trails on my family’s 500 acre mountain property in western NC, but with no excavator. Luckily the old logging roads and livestock trails offer a head start, even eroded and overgrown. The stream crossing rock work is my favorite thing to do. Better than shoveling
Greetings from a fellow Vermonter and mountain biker, Phil! I thought you lived in Canada. Nice to know we have talent like yours in these green mountains.
Kudos for wearing proper PPE while using a chainsaw. As a Forester, ive seen plenty of nasty injuries from chainsaws from folks who thought it wasn't necessary
Which trail system would yall rather ride? A. Skill with Phil B. Seth's Bike Hacks C. Backyard trail builds I'm thinking C is more my actual level, A is my aspiration, an B is just crazy sketch for no particularly good reason.
Great work man! This is going to be a great series of videos. Look at those rocks you dug up doing that dirt jump line too! Definitely going to come in handy.
Bro your instagram clips lately have been awesome. I love waking up and seeing your pov footage, gets me hyped to ride my trails! We did drops and chutes the other day and it was cool to see you hit it as well!
im so impressed how you have done so much on the trail like a civil engineer and just all your insights and knowledges along the way, and how you troubleshoot the gator and able to fixed it as well as the track for the excavator, i would not have known what to do if there wasn't someone who knows how to fix them to show me. how do you figured all that out by yourself? you must just have a brilliant mind, or did you have helps? or searched online for answers?
She's always been a hard worker. She was the only girl that worked on her towns tree farm growing up amongst all the guys. This isnt her full time job. She works doing cancer research :)
I learned to know better than to judge the jumps on camera versus what they actually look like and feel like in person lol. Everything looks awesome but I will definitely chicken out on all of the features lol
Those are all over New England. Farmers built them to clear the area for farming and grazing cattle. Most often these days they serve no real purposes, but sometimes they may be partially used as property boundaries.
Nice Gator! It was great to hear you say that the Gator also "fit your budget". So often, RUclips content doesn't seem to take budget into account, leaving one with the impression that they need brand new $15k machinery to succeed and, frankly, not everyone has $10k for one thing, $3k for another, etc. Sometimes you gotta look for the deals and make do with what you can find.
Barred owls are diurnal and this one was enjoying a bath. diurnal means awake during the day. barred owls are also fearless and can be quite aggressive towards each other and occasionally humans who get to close to their nest.
When you start loosing traction, or get stuck. use the blade to lift the mini X , and throw rocks under the tracks. you might have to position rock, or logs under the blade to get more height. My brother got a mini from work stuck in a pile of muck from the Charles river, and needed to get it free before second shift showed up. the rockes under the tracks gave the machine more clearance, and traction.
It's very nice to have a place to quickly get a ride in when you don't have much time or need to test something out on your bike to see if it's working right.

THUMBS DOWN
Dang this is "Skills with Phil" to another level! The trail building, lumberjacking, mechanic, mountain biker showing us how it's done!
"I'm a lumberjack, and I'm ok. I sleep all night and I work all day!"
You said it!
and professional owl watcher
I also have to film and edit these videos. I honestly don't know how to answer the question "so what do you do for work?".
@@SkillsWithPhil All of it.

The map of the property was really useful!
Hope to see you at Highlands this season!

Phil just seems like a wholesome guy. The way he explained the theory of his tree clearing and creating sun for the little fellows was pretty cool.
same vibe i get
The weather seems to have been completely messed up all over the world this spring 😂 good job though 👍

@@SkillsWithPhil Here in Finland, the spring weather has been absurd 🙈

Came here for MTB trail tutorial. Subscribed because of MAD RESPECT for the lumberjack and engineering skills on display.
Love the graphics. Very good job with the trail map illustrations.
Owl Bath was the best part. Totally agree, most adorable thing!
that 6x4 is gonna be awesome for roll packing features too.

This video for some reason never gets old. I keep watching it constantly and it brings me inspiration to make my own trails.
Little frame of reference for how brutal Vt mtb is Killington Mountain closed skiing May 16th and two years ago their last day of skiing was June 14th

Your property is awesome. Great job on the trails! I'm jealous
Really cool phil! I love the biking/trail building community so much! Cheers to all the riders and builders out there!
Phil, your water resource and general sustainability knowledge is very well appreciated!
That gator brings me back to my days working at golf courses.
Greetings from a fellow Vermonter and mountain biker, Phil! I thought you lived in Canada. Nice to know we have talent like yours in these green mountains.
3:40 He is completely correct. I am a downhill coach in Mid Vt and we didn't open until last weekend.
Kudos for wearing proper PPE while using a chainsaw. As a Forester, ive seen plenty of nasty injuries from chainsaws from folks who thought it wasn't necessary
How did you become a forester???
@@br9760 went and got my BS in forest management and went to work.
You and Seth constantly one uping the features and equipment. Trails getting more dailed in by the day. Great work.
10:34 Andrew Camarata would be proud
He's one of the reasons why I knew what to do when it happened. Ranks in my personal top 5 favorite channels on RUclips.
Loved the tib bit about forestry and growing trees! Thanks Phil!
Loved the bathing owl. Good job guys! Love to watch you having fun!!

That's cool - wish we had a huge property to do that with! The possibilities are endless. Good work, mate!
Thanks for the upload Phil.
Great work man! This is going to be a great series of videos. Look at those rocks you dug up doing that dirt jump line too! Definitely going to come in handy.
Wow, this is cool! I didnt expect your property to fit even more trails, but its awesome that it is that way!
Super cool dude! Love that you did everything all by yourselves and learning how to do it along the way. Great footage of the owl!!
You're winning in life Phil. Nice work.

Dude, you Are a craftsman!
Ha, I like the sound of that. Thanks for watching :)
The barred owl makes a hoot the sounds like “who cooked for you”
Not the one that was watching, it was a fledgling and couldn't form full hoots yet, it was very cute :)
@@SkillsWithPhil great footage! Listen for that sound, its pretty funny

I love that you wear appropriate safety equipment running that chainsaw. Glad to see safety taken seriously.
The owl swimming was so cute

Great work on the trail, but the Owls stole the show!!!!
That’s so cool and crazy that you have snow in the winter I live on the east coast of Canada and we have warm and dry weather all the time
Trail is looking great!
Well done guys!
You may have already addressed this in previous video but, who built the rock wall and what is the purpose? Trails are looking really sweet.

I remember you riding biggie smalls at sunset ranch. you shredded that line with Ian. still looking good Phil!

Cool Phil, great to see the progress, you’re going to be a master mechanic as well as a trail builder
I love this kind of Video

Looking at this video makes me wanna build my own trail!!
You caught a very rare moment of an owl taking a shower. Good job, Phil.

I really like the inclusion of "machine goes bad - we fix it quickly"
THIS MADE ME MISS BUILDING SNOW SUMMITS BIKE PARK
Omg I remember when u reviewed the mini BMX..... That's so cool that you jumped i!!!!!
Next time you pop a track you can use your bucket to help get it back on by giving it a friendly push
I tried that first for a solid 20 minutes. Maybe a better operator would have more luck but i wasn't able to get it to retrack.
Excited for the dirt jumps!

It was a steep grade and there were rocks underneath. Clawing or pushing your way up is the only solution.
Phil, the man with a plan !!
Come for the trails, stay for the owls! Adorable++
Let’s go finally a new video
Really loved the footage of the bathing owl! :D
