I had the pleasure of seeing them live when they toured "Umbrella"...the only thing better than their concert performance was meeting them afterwords...I swear...the nicest people one would ever want to meet...so modest and down to earth...I am a life long fan...I mean...how bad can the world be with these folks still writing and performing?...I am smiling as I watch this....
In 1989 I was in 7th grade and my father won a cassette copy of this unkown band's debut album. He handed it to me and said, "Check this out, I think you might like it." Little did he know the romance he had instigated by putting that beautiful album in my hands. Watching this Tiny Desk concert with The Innocence Mission brings me such peace and joy and great memories of my youth and my dad.
This band creates music with such sincerity, I feel so content sitting and just listening . Life feels like a rush most of the time but their music is so grounding. Love this group
check out the following tracks from all stages of their coruscating career: "Someday Coming" "Everything's different now" "The Lakes of Canada" "I hear you say so"
Whenever i hear the song,God is Love,it's like she borrows my soul for what seems an eternity and then when she's done she gives it right back to me unscathed.
I've been listening to The Innocence Mission since Glow came out in 1995. That's album - a beautiful sound bed of dreamy pop hooks, glorious reverb and emotional heft was one of my best friends that year. That year in college was tough - longtime girlfriend was a cheat and I was hit with a terrible bout of depression. I found solace in the songs. They’ve long evolved from that sound, but their music is still dreamy and I’ve bought every album since. Their follow-up, Birds of my Neighborhood, was the beginning of a departure from their electric dream pop sound and is closer to what the band sounds like today. I’ll never forget holding my firstborn, listening to their gorgeous album of children’s lullabies, Now That the Day is Over. Their output is still sincere, beautiful, mellow and dreamy. So lovely to see them on Tiny Desk today.
Harry Rubenstein I’m in my seventh decade of existence and I can reliably list (the relatively recent) Now That The Day Is Over as probably my most frequently listened-to IM album (but I’ve been with IM from nearly the start). Awesome choice for that little one of yours, great covers of music from Louis Armstrong to Chopin to Mancini, you can’t go wrong!
This is and has always been my favorite band. So pure. Birds of my Neighborhood is possibly my favorite album of all time. Their music has helped me through all of my darkest times. I may not be alive if it weren't for these people, they filled so many gaps in my life where I didn't feel romance and beauty in the world. So glad NPR is sharing this.
A rare treat to see them play live. I saw them on the Glow Tour at the Backstage in Seattle. It was sold out. Two young women were crying outside because they couldn't get a ticket after driving a long way from Eastern Washington. I'd have cried too.
Her voice always tugs at the heartstrings. Music to listen to when you need a good cry or want to contemplate the meaning of life. “Happy the end” was the soundtrack to several college break-ups. Beautiful stuff......😢
One of the most underrated groups ever. Karen's voice is angelic and the harmonies she makes with Don and Mike simply move me to no end. I've teared up at a few songs because they remind me of childhood, innocence, and the sense of vulnerability in living. There's pure beauty in their art, and to see them in concert is a gem.
This is the music I listen to while drinking a cup of tea on my porch in the country side while my cat rubs against my leg and the warmth of the sun shines on my face making me feel like everything is going to be okay
I made my living as a full time artist for 32 years, and for much of that time, Don and Karen Peris created music that fed my heart and soul. They have a direct connection to a place where love thrives, and they have thankfully chosen to share that gift with the rest of us. I can only hope to have passed on a tiny bit of that feeling in my work, paying if forward in some small way.
You MUST listen to the album version. The other instruments make this song so much more. Cello and violin, I think. Absolutely my favorite new-ish song by IM.
I have loved this band since I first heard them in 1989. Karen has such a pure, sweet voice. And Don has a touch on whatever he is playing that just makes every song shine. I am so glad they are still making amazing music. I used to be annoyed more people didn't know them. Now I'm just grateful I found them and got to enjoy their entire career.
I've loved IM from their debut album to now & everything in between. Very lucky to have seen them play live a couple times. Karen is without question one of my favorite songwriters in my lifetime.
Too much light to deny. I don't know them personally, but too me these folks are some of the best of friends. With all the noise in the world, one can easily slip into their songs and feel all the love they need. Their quiet epiphanies are thrilling.
why are there 74 thumbs down ? don't bother putting people down.. walk away and do something good yourselves., this music is absolutely awesome, really loving the innocence mission, I have singles Black sheep wall and Wonder of birds, not sure why I never checked them out since.. well I have now.. stunning, thank you people..
I remember seeing The Innocence Mission at the 930 Club in the early 90s supporting Umbrella. Live (the band) opened for them and I remember Ed Kowalczyk playing trumpet when he used to do that.
Don Peris music is awesome too. They have well crafted heart provoking and deepening lyrics with a gentle childlikeness that I continue to hold dear. They are very kind people too.I would enjoy seeing them sometime (maybe a show with The Ocean Blue?) hint hint
I found a copy of their first cd at least 10 years ago. Loved but then lost it. Recently refound but I had forgotten. But replayed it and rediscovered how beautiful it was. Now unlike when I first found them I was so happy to see they are still putting out musicthat I had to hit iTunes and where I had just one album now I have three
I was watching mass online today. My brother in law is the priest there. I’m listening to the singing and recognized the voice immediately. I looked at my family and yelled in my living room, “ Do you know who that is?! Does your brother know who is singing in his church?!” My family did not care quite as much as me. 😂
Never forgetting that Innocence Mission sent a CD to me while I was doing missions work in wonderful Tanzania, East Africa. One of the great musical surprises of my life. Listening brought such beauty, peace, and refreshing while we lived there. Thank you always Innocence Mission!
It feels like lifetimes ago, up on a ladder painting a wall in my first Buffalo apartment, listening to 101.1 The River, when I heard Bright As Yellow. I couldn’t paint, I could only listen. I was 20 something. My runway has extended almost to my 50s now, and my love for this trio has only deepened. Brava.
Loved them since the debut album in the late 1980's. Green Bus was one of my fav tracks of 2018. Great to see it played live . ps "Someday coming" from the wonderful "Umbrella" album is to me the perfect folk tinged Pop song.
This band is a Legend that no one knows about. The nicest bunch of people to boot
I knew another young lady that looked exactly like Karen.
I LOVE these folks…for decades, now 😍🥰
One of the bands that absolutely changed my life.
They remind me that there is goodness, gentleness, and sweetness still left...
Mine too brother.
Me too.
Yep
Same
I had the pleasure of seeing them live when they toured "Umbrella"...the only thing better than their concert performance was meeting them afterwords...I swear...the nicest people one would ever want to meet...so modest and down to earth...I am a life long fan...I mean...how bad can the world be with these folks still writing and performing?...I am smiling as I watch this....
The most sublime voice in the world. Don’s dexterity is out of this world.
I've heard Innocence Mission was started when they agreed to make a pack with Lucifer. We must expose their agenda.
In 1989 I was in 7th grade and my father won a cassette copy of this unkown band's debut album. He handed it to me and said, "Check this out, I think you might like it." Pampered Chef with Bianca K That story matches the beauty of their songs. Thanks for sharing.
Such a fitting story in a way for this music, cheers to your dad! Now from one chef to another... if I may ask, how can I become a pampered chef? :D
I actually won a copy of their first album on CD. Beautiful album.
Pampered Chef with Bianca K ❤️❤️❤️
Pampered Chef with Bianca K gg
This band creates music with such sincerity, I feel so content sitting and just listening . Life feels like a rush most of the time but their music is so grounding. Love this group
This is the first time I've heard the innocence mission. But I can tell this relationship will now last forever.
check out the following tracks from all stages of their coruscating career:
"Someday Coming"
"Everything's different now"
"The Lakes of Canada"
"I hear you say so"
Those who live a gentle and joyous life never grows old. Thank you Karen and Don for showing me that.
The way she smiles the entire time is beautiful. As is the music. This is definitely a bucket list live show for me.
I love her heart
Her lyrics,their music,etc.
And,OF COURSE,her angelic voice.
Whenever i hear the song,God is Love,it's like she borrows my soul for what seems an eternity and then when she's done she gives it right back to me unscathed.
I just wish they would play live. I'd fly from Idaho to Pennsylvania to see them. In a heartbeat.
"Tomorrow on the Runway" is one of my all-time favorite songs. Brilliant!
Shannon Benson correct choice!! ❤️❤️

She never ages! It is her sweet heart and good spirit that keeps her youthful!

I love that she is smiling throughout the set. :)
I love the way she says in the meantime!Beautiful accent!!
And her singing?As mellifluous as
a kite in the sky!!
I have spent so many afternoons turned late evenings in my art studio, playing with textures and colors with this angel accompanying me.
Me too.
agreed, this band is truly a creative inspiration
This is how heaven will sound
Her voice always tugs at the heartstrings. Music to listen to when you need a good cry or want to contemplate the meaning of life. “Happy the end” was the soundtrack to several college break-ups. Beautiful stuff......😢
my mum sent me this band today and I’ve spend all day listening to them and smiling, so pure and angelic

Their songs take me to a very beautiful place. Now and then i come back to this video.
I get goosebumps - right from the first few notes! This music is wonderful beyond words. Only wish I had come across this band sooner.......
i cannot believe ive just heard of this band. The best voice I've ever heard
She wraps my heart in a comforter each time i hear her voice n lyrics.
She does not age. What an Angel
Tim's Enthusiast Garage ah - maybe that’s it?!!
She’s actually an angel.
ikr? Saw them live w/Throwing Muses in Ann Arbor in the 90's!
Sublime experience listening to them, thank you NPR!
This is the music I listen to while drinking a cup of tea on my porch in the country side while my cat rubs against my leg and the warmth of the sun shines on my face making me feel like everything is going to be okay
It will be brother!

Their faith lights up the music
Great band. Can't believe their first album came out almost 30 years ago!
'Tomorrow on the runway' is truly magical!
So happy to see this. I’ve been an IM fan for many years, and have hoped they would get a tiny desk appearance.
Karen’s voice is as beautiful as ever.
That deep acoustic bass and Karen’s voice, heart beat to a sparrow’s voice... the ukulele other birds chattering. Love your music.
finally, after all these years... thank you NPR-TDC

Stopped by for just a taste and ended up listening to all 12 minutes and 28 seconds. Lovely.
You MUST listen to the album version. The other instruments make this song so much more. Cello and violin, I think. Absolutely my favorite new-ish song by IM.
Just couldn't stay for the last 2, could you 😢
Her voice is so beautiful. They are awesome, lovely sound
First track was notably angelic. Excellent music
What a song, it truly brings tears to my eyes. Karin's voice is so mysterious and soft and blends so well with the melodies of each song.

Been an Innocence Mission fan since Umbrella, which remains one of my all-time favorite albums. Lovely Tiny Desk Concert. Thank you!
I love discovering bands whose members have been together for decades. Cant help but wonder how they were when they were younger and just starting out
Single from their 1st album. ruclips.net/video/rxYY3KuNVIU/видео.html
So sweet.
And also I really appreciate the well written descriptions. Well done ladies and gentlemen

if i was stuck on a desert island and allowed only one band's music, innocence mission would be it.
Finally i got the faces to this mesmerising sound of Glow.
How i loved this album and still do.
What a treasure of beautifulness 🌸🌸🌸

I was there too! I think Live's name at the time was Public Affection or something like that.
@@johnveresh3855 yep. Public Affection was their old name.
Innocence mission remained the most played band in my playlists
Love them lots, love their beautiful vocal and instrumental sounds, melodies, feels and everything else that provoke the best pure emotions in me.
Best tiny in awhile
I totally agree
Karen Peris is just as beautiful as her lyrics.
Just discovered this band. I recently heard "Lakes of Canada", which I've been playing on repeat & it brought me here. What a magnificent performance!
Don Peris music is awesome too.
They have well crafted heart provoking and deepening lyrics with a gentle childlikeness that I continue to hold dear. They are very kind people too.I would enjoy seeing them sometime (maybe a show with The Ocean Blue?) hint hint

This. When you can transport people to a whole 'nother world, and it's apparently effortless on your part.
Perfect music for the venue.
Loved them since the debut album in the late 1980's. Green Bus was one of my fav tracks of 2018. Great to see it played live .

Been a fan for a long time. They used to be a stunning rock band too.
If not for WHFS, I never would have heard of groups like this. Wonderful memories! Thank you WHFS!
So beautiful. Your voice is incredibly unique and therefore instantly recognisable. I adore your music.

Just beautiful. Tomorrow on the Runway is one of my favourites and this version is just perfect. It's just magic xx
Karen has the most uniquely hauntingly beautiful voice i have ever heard. Innocence Mission, truly, the world's best kept secret.
Have been following them since 2006
I love her voice...so classic ☺
Absolutely stunning.
