Ferruccio Busoni (1 April 1866 - 27 July 1924) was an Italian composer, pianist, conductor, editor, writer, and teacher. His international career and reputation led him to work closely with many of the leading musicians, artists and literary figures of his time, and he was a sought-after keyboard instructor and a teacher of composition.

busoni was such a great composer that I'm surprised not many people know of him from this perspective but only know him as a pianist or even only as an editor of bach's wtc. in my view, and I'm not a pedagogue, I find this work of his to be very instructive for a serious young musician, as he presents bach, mozart and paganini as well as the style of his contemporaries in one complete work: such that even if a student can't get to play in the style of paganini because of its technical difficulty, he can still get to know his virtuosic quality as a composer. plus, it is very nice and instructive to hear and learn these composers of past eras in an accurate representetion of modern piano writing, as these composers(especially bach) never wrote for the piano. imo a student also would be delighted to play such a work of high contrast and never be bored with it, as many young students whom their music culture is high might get bored from works not even written for the piano and of strict writing. much can be taken from only this mere work, I congratulate busoni on this accomplishment.
