    Scapeshift + Scute Swarm doesnt work. The 8 lands will come into play at the same time, and trigger 8 times the same scute swarm. The first copy created won't have triggers since the 8 lands are already on the battlefield. So you'd be at 9 Scute Swarm after that Scapeshift.

      I'm pretty sure most things they were reaching for with this card wouldn't have worked the way they were thinking. All these wild swings at "breaking" this card, meanwhile I'm playtesting it in my Windgrace deck routinely making 32 1/1's in a single turn.

      And that they kept saying you can just use Lithoform Engine to copy a counterspell someone is throwing at you and then counter the counterspell. Too much wrong information D:

    • @seymour47
      @seymour47 4 года назад +6

      @@Quapper I don't think they were actually saying that. They were saying that you can copy the spell that is about to be countered. So, the counterspell resolves and counters the original spell, but you still get a token of what you were trying to cast. Basically it's a way to save what you were casting. You don't get two, but you still get one at least.

    1:18:15 Lotus Vale and Scorched Ruins are fine with Ancient Green Warden, but Lotus Field is not.
    1:25:40 That's not how it'd work. Only the Scute Swarms on the battle field when Scapeshift resolved would see the land ETBs. So if you had 4 Scute Swarms in play, and had 8 lands enter you'd get 32 more (36 total).
    1:30:20 Confounding Conundrum wouldn't be in play at that point...The Great Aurora would have shuffled it into the library, and even if you drew it you couldn't possibly get it back into play before the card finished resolving.

    Great review. Just a few issues:
    - Relic Robber + Torbran doesn't work because your opponents control the tokens so the damage would not be trippled.
    - Valakut Exploration second ability doesn't mention cmc. If you exile 3 cards with cmc 5 it would still only do 3 damage.
    - Scapeshift + Scute Swarm doesnt work. The 8 lands will come into play at the same time, and trigger 8 times the same scute swarm. The first copy created won't have triggers since the 8 lands are already on the battlefield.
    - The great aurora will shuffle conundrum into the library and not stop opponents from putting lands in play

    So on Feed The Swarm, you were unsure if this signifies a change from WotC. They have said and written in a few places they have actively given black the ability to destroy its opponents enchantments. (Not its own so it cant remove the deal with the devil enchantments.)

    • @Spaced92
      @Spaced92 4 года назад +2

      I've always thought it was kind of arbitrary that black can't remove enchantments and it makes limited worse, artifacts is fine but blue, green and white effectively deal with anything, Wizards are sly with saying blue has no enchantment removal.

    • @jasonkorf7700
      @jasonkorf7700 4 года назад

      Granted it's not the best artifact removal, but Black has Gate to Phyrexia & Phyrexia Tribute, which do work well in Sacrifice decks. So Black, Blue, Green, and White have ways in their own way of dealing with threats.
      Meanwhile Red gets hosed, no enchantment removal and red burn removal really isn't that great in Commander unless you build around it.

    • @clarknes3111
      @clarknes3111 4 года назад

      @@jasonkorf7700 That's a bit different though. Those are color pie breaks from the past, but you would never see black get a destroy target artifact spell now. Just like Beast Within is a relic of the past, and even Chaos Warp.

    • @jasonkorf7700
      @jasonkorf7700 4 года назад

      @@clarknes3111 That's true, the I was trying to make and probably failing at is that Wotc has given Black, Blue, and Green all these tools be it their current color Pie distribution, breaks from the past or more recent breaks or bends.
      Meanwhile, White has major issues in Card Draw/Card Advantage along with a few other things, but has very good removal.
      While Red does have the "impulse" draw where you exile a card and decide to play it this turn, which feels underpowered compared normal card draw. It no Enchantment removal and does various things solid to good, but doesn't excel in one area or another compared to other colors. For Example, Black excels at Reanimation, Blue is a better than Red for Artifact synergies with Urza and etc, Green has superior Creature based strategies, and White for Equipment.

    • @clarknes3111
      @clarknes3111 4 года назад +2

      @@jasonkorf7700 Well you have to look at the color's core goals and weaknesses. Green gets all of these things, but it is reliant on creatures to do so. If it can't get creatures it struggles. Blue can answer most things but it has to answer them ahead of the time. Once they land the best it can do is slow them down or mitigate them a bit. Black can do almost anything but it has to destroy itself to do it.
      Red can muster terrifying ferocity and explosive plays but it can't plan ahead. Once it's out it either won or struggles. So fixing red has been much easier as they just need to make its effects scale better with the game. If you look at red now it is terrifyingly strong and fast. I'd argue red when focused can be stronger more consistently than blue and black.
      The catch is that none of those are breaks. A break is something that counters the weakness of the color, so while green, blue, and black have gotten plenty of toys, they don't really change much about the color. (Though I think greens card draw is a biiiit too pushed compared to its reliance on creatures). Red has dramatically changed because they had an easy way to lean into its strengths and weaknesses to fix it. But white. White is much harder. Its fundamental weakness is that it can do most things but is inflexible, so how do you make it more flexible like edh demands without also devaluing that weakness? Its a radically different problem.

    So the Lithoform Engine not comboing with Doubling Season and like-cards works as such; You create a COPY of the permanent on the stack. The "spell" appears on the stack. The "spell" is NOT a token. Resolve the stack. The copied "spell" will resolve like a normal spell would but because there is not a CARD associated with the spell, the spell BECOMES a token. Therefore, the token was never created in the first place.

    Saw on another channel that Myriad Construct excludes the all important "if you do" clause for the sacrifice part. Which; if I understand correctly, means you can target it more than once getting multiple triggers. So you target it, the trigger goes on the stack to sacrifice it, then you target it again (and again and again...you get the idea) and get all the tokens. Seems interesting in the right decks!

    So for everyone out there who want some more detail on Angel of destiny and Myriad, (44:40 for start of Angel of Destiny discussion). I found the rule they are referring to and wanted to post it here.
    508.4. If a creature is put onto the battlefield attacking, its controller chooses which defending player or which planeswalker a defending player controls it’s attacking as it enters the battlefield (unless the effect that put it onto the battlefield specifies what it’s attacking). Similarly, if an effect states that a creature is attacking, its controller chooses which defending player or which planeswalker a defending player controls it’s attacking it becomes attacking (unless the effect has already specified). Such creatures are “attacking” but, for the purposes of trigger events and effects, they never “attacked.”

  • @ErraticPlatypus
    @ErraticPlatypus 4 года назад +1

    Ashaya + Greenwarden is nutty. Not only does each creature entering the battlefield trigger landfall twice, they will also trigger any creature etbs twice. Greenwarden says "if a land entering the battlefield causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger". Since your creatures are lands, they enter as lands and trigger etbs twice.

      I am literally not going to be playing arena until they ban that card. I was excited to play when the new set came out and now we have to deal with this nonsense. The playtesting crew at WOTC has failed again. The card could have just been tweaked to say, "If you have six or more lands, then make two 1/1 insects instead." That would still have been annoying, but it wouldn't be breaking arena.
      In paper magic, this card isn't as big of a problem(although still dumb)you would tell your opponent what's gonna happen, you do the math real quick and say how many scute swarms you now have. They wipe the board on their next turn if they can, or prevent damage on your swing...etc and can scoop if they know there's nothing they can do. They don't have to sit there while you scribble a picture of a scute swarm for each one you make.
      The design team knows that arena exists, someone should have known that this would break it. If they didn't, then the people who are doing the coding and testing to make sure the cards works in arena should know that and should say something. WOTC could have straight up just said that this card is pre-banned before it came out because they didn't have time to change it before it went to print stating that it crashes their platform and would warp Standard around it. They could offer anyone who cracked one some other card instead. If they didn't want to pre-ban it, they could have instead just errated what the card does.

    • @Putrefax
      @Putrefax 4 года назад

      @@Kattywagon29 Forcing the design team to curb their creativity just because Arena has a terrible engine and can't handle complicated boardstates is completely backwards. Wanting Scute Swarm banned just because some small percentage of the player base has some performance issues with their client - not because the card breaks the format like Oko or something - is a sad commentary on the state of standard at the moment. It's just like when they errata'd Ajani's Pridemate to not be a 'may' trigger anymore because arena couldn't handle it.

    • @Kattywagon29
      @Kattywagon29 4 года назад

      @@Putrefax I feel like you didn't read the entirety of what I said. We have two problems. I said the play testing crew failed us. This card is a nuisance in paper magic and it would still warp the format around it and that's up to the playtesting people to tell the designers who can then modify a card if needed.
      If they don't want to modify it, they still have to consider arena because it does exist. Therefore, they can chose to put a problematic card somewhere else like a Modern Masters set or some other nonstandard side product.
      The reality is that this card shouldn't have to be banned because it shouldn't have existed in its current form. The problems that it could cause were obvious on the day it was revealed and now we know the speculation is indeed true. WOTC needed better checks and balances before this card got to the public. Customers don't want their shiny new cards banned.

I believe he also indicated that the ZNR handoff article (which should be the next article he releases, about a week from now) will give an idea of what the dropped inscriptions looked like, so we’ll be able to see about how bad they would have been if they were printed

    I think blade of selves and Angel of Destiny might actually work together. The reason I say this, Master of Cruelties’ ability will trigger even if you put it into play when you attack with Kaalia of the Vast. It works differently because it’s not saying ‘when this creature attacks’ which only triggered during the declare attackers step. This actually triggers at the end of turn and I believe would just check to see if it was considered an attacker for that turn.

They are very thorough about condition! Not so from other sellers. I've ordered EX cards from them that come in better condition than what other sellers call NM.

    sea gate stromcaller copies the next instant or sorcery you cast with cmc 2 or less when you cast it, not the next instant or sorcery you cast if it's cmc is 2 or less. so theoretically you could cast SGS, cast something expensive like dark petition, and then SGS would still see the fork later.

    • @connoringram4948

      Yarrok doesnt double the counters on fertalid cus its not a triggered ability. Its kinda like clones how they dont enter as 0 0s they enter as copies of tje stuff. If those were triggered abilities your fertalid would die before it ever got the triggers cus game state sees it as a 0 0.

    Lithoform Engine has to be my favourite card. When I remembered about Brudiclad, my mind instantly went to the idea of casting Blightsteel Colossus, copying it with Lithoform Engine, go to combat with a couple of other tokens on board, create that Myr from Brudiclad and turn them all into a Blightsteel Colossus token, minimum of 3 Blightsteel Colossus creatures on your board to swing out at people (only 2 can attack in that turn but still), which can then just keep growing more and more each turn Brudiclad is out.

    A friend ask me a question about Teferi's Puzzlebox and how it works with Teferi's Ageless Insight and Alhammarret's Archive, so I make some formulas for him using the named cards and Thought Reflection. (If I see any errors please let me know, I didn't use mathematical language other than + additio and × multiplication)
    Hope it helps (and apologies for the part about Sylvan Library, I know very little about the card and how to approach using/Resolving it)
    D= cards to be drawn
    B= cards put to the bottom of deck
    S= stated amount (i.e. Opt the value is 1, Divination the value is 2)
    A= Alhammarret's Archive (1 = not in play, 2 = is in play)
    T= Teferi's Ageless Insight (1 = not in play, 2 = is in play)
    R= Thought Reflection (1 = not in play, 2 = is in play)
    a!= Alhammarret's Archive in play, check for Thought Reflection if not in play use 1
    t!= Teferi's Ageless Insight in play, check for Thought Reflection if not in play use 1
    B(dn+1) = cards drawn after bottoming
    through Teferi's Puzzlebox a number
    of times (with multiple copies out)
    Formulas:
    First card of the turn:
    D = R * a! * t! * (1)
    Teferi's Puzzlebox in play:
    D = B * R * A * T
    Multiple Teferi's Puzzlebox in play:
    Bd1 = B × R × A × T
    Bd2 = Bd1 × R × A × T
    B(dn+1) = B(dn) × R × A ×T
    Any draw after draw step (i.e. Opt)
    D = S * R * A * T
    But wait there is more. what about cards like Howling mine? (cards that say draw an additional card at your draw step)
    Simply take the first card a turn formula and change it thusly
    D = R * a! * t! * (1 + X + Q + !Sylvan Library! + !Malignant Growth!)
    D = R * a! * t! * (1 + X[Anvil of Bogardan + Avaricious Dragon + Dictate of Kruphix + Grafted Skullcap + Heightened Awareness + Howling Mine + Kami of the Crescent Moon + Midnight Oil + Monastery Siege + Nekusar the Mindrazer + Overbeing of Myth + Righteous Authority + Rites Of Flourishing + Spiteful Visions + The Immortal Sun] + Q [Well of Ideas + Font of Mythos] + !Sylvan Library!)
    Notes (values and other actions)
    For each of the following that are in play, add 1 to the value of X if not in play ignore (count all including multiples):
    (If Anvil of Bogardan or Monastery Siege discard a card after drawing for each)
    Anvil of Bogardan
    Avaricious Dragon
    Dictate of Kruphix
    Grafted Skullcap
    Heightened Awareness
    Howling Mine
    Kami of the Crescent Moon
    Midnight Oil
    Monastery Siege
    Nekusar the Mindrazer
    Overbeing of Myth
    Righteous Authority
    Rites Of Flourishing
    Spiteful Visions
    The Immortal Sun
    For each of the following are play, use the value 2, if not in play use Zero (ignore):
    Font of Mythos
    add 1 to the value of X if in play under an opponents control, add 2 if in play under your control, add zero if not in play (count all including multiples):
    Well of Ideas
    If in play ask your local judge for aid in resolving the action (there are unique rules related to the following)
    !Sylvan Library!
    *Keep your hand away from the cards that you draw*
    Malignant Growth is only counted if one or more opponent has that card in play, use the number of Age Counters for the value
    !Malignant Growth!

White should get a new mechanic that is basically the +1 from Ugin The Ineffable (turn the top card of your library into a 2/2 and draw it when it leaves the field). It would basically be white's version of red's impulse draw. To me this kind of mechanic really gels with white mechanically and thematically. It just really feels "white".
