My goodness. I'm so pleased. Look at his reaction. I don't care if I had someone else as favourite for this tournament: I want Monfil to get it. He has a heart of gold, such a super nice, likeable person!!! 🙏🏻🥰♥️
Not many could have guessed that Monfils would be the one dictating most of the rallies, but I think he came into the match with an excellent strategy, mixing up his game and confusing Fritz with drop shots, slices, and powerful shots. I’m a fan of Alcaraz, but I’m very happy for Monfils, who always demonstrates excellent sportsmanship and gets along well with everyone. (Fritz also seems like a nice guy.)
I wish Monfis was this serious about his game earlier on. He wanted to entertain, and the likes of Djokovic wanted to win. His going to need a lot of gas in the next coming games.
Why always start this debate??? Monfils deserves a GS for all the joy he brought to crowds. He will never be forgotten, like other players who won one or two GS.
@ Every player who dares to take a chance deserves a Grand Slam. However, deserving it isn’t enough; winning requires relentless grinding and perseverance. Only a select few talented players possess the rare ability to both entertain and achieve victory at the highest level.
Always loved Gael, but he was a pusher for most of his career, sure he had an amazing highlights, but basic game was pushing and it always will be a mistery why he was playing like that
@@yrisch6 you're right he played even better back then. It's just the standard of players back then were a joke. The level was crazy. He played at such a tough era😅. Even just think of players like Mannarinno. There's a reason why they are getting their best results now
@@bowiththeflow7123 You are exactly right. I am done with all the talk about "more power" etc. Look back at Del Potro, Verdasco, Berdych etc. The top was crowded with players like that (also Tsonga, Cilic, Ferrer, later Thiem) and on top of all those the big 4. I remember when Monfils came back about 2 years ago. First thing he did was beat Tiafoe. Edit: and I was forgetting about players like Wawrinka, Roddick, Nishikori and before that Nalbandian, Davydenko. Most of them had better tennis IQ than a lot of players now (Shelton being the epitome of the lack thereof).
@@bowiththeflow7123sorry he didnt play better than this. His best form other than this was just before his injruy during covid when he picked up a couple of atp tour wins. He has never played this intelligently, always in the oast leaning on athleticism rather than keeping mixed shots and optimal strikes to change the tempo like today.
I think when u know that there is not much time left, u play more releaved and probably this is one of the main reasons for such a performance. However, if u look at Wawrinka its unfortunatelly the opposite. But so happy to see this....
What did I just see?? He played every single groundstroke with the power and angle of prime nadal. If that is not enough, he has the dropshot touch of alcaraz. Has to be one of his best days ever formwise 😮
Monfils is such a smart guy- and obviously he played his best tennis (within advanced tennis age-…old ripe wine taste the best😉), stayed relaxed and made all the important points. I begrudge this win to him👌♥️.
Chapeau, Monfils. 9-1 this season, with the sole defeat coming against Djokovic. At 38 years old. And taking down a Fritz who had dropped just eight games in his opening matches. Unbelievable.
Impossible not to love Monfils. He's a positive example of how to be a showman: playing incredible tennis with spectacular winners, covering every inch of the court, smiling, and even dancing amicably at the end. Not like the clowns-you already know who I mean
Ita a matter of stamina. I don't know if he can handle such an effort until the final. Fritz Is good but slow. Against Alcaraz or Sinner or Djokovic he has few chances of win.
love how he plays..I just watched how he took out Federer in the Davis Cup final in 2014.if he played an aggressive style not just relying on his speed,he could /have/ beat/en/ anybody past and present...
The calmness of Monfils, but still his precise down the line shots and beautiful dropshots. He's so much more fun to watch (than Nole, for example). And he makes it look so easy.
Atleta formidabile
The thing with Monfils is that he is a rare elite athlete in tennis. There aren't many about, you'd say Alcaraz was one and possibly De Minaur due to his speed. Djokovic is wonderful but he had lost a good chunk of his speed many years ago. So when Gael fancies it, other players are in trouble.
38 years old! Chapeau, Monfils! Great performance!
It's almost unbelievable, but every chance we get to watch this kind of tennis from Monfils, I'll be absolutely delighted. What a performance!
Everytime he wins we all like...the most likable player ever

that's racist

@@alexanderpetkov97 🤣
He has no fitness left..,
What a bold take 😂😂
He already is in the last 16
That IS already a deep run for a player outside the top 10 😂😂
Monfils is the main reason I still watch tennis. love this guy!
Really so happy for Gael.....enjoy it ! You're a great guy no matter if you win or lose !
I never thought that Monfils will win against an in form Fritz. Unbelieveable
He won Alcaraz not so long ago....
The ability of Monfils of driving tha ball during the point with standard shots is second to none
I am 38. Maybe I can still start my atp career.
he not just 38, he had a lot of experience
No you cant buddy, you are cooked 💀
You gotta love Monfils, he's a legend.
A born entertainer 🇫🇷
wouldn't be happier for anyone else to win a grand slam!
Go Gael!
Monfils the biggest surprise of the tournament so far. Chapeau
He plays this so cleverly, keep feeding low balls halfway and short to draw Fritz out where his movement is exposed
He showed a great understanding of his opponent throughout this match
Like good wine, he is aging gracefully and gets better. What a joy to watch.
How proud the parents of this great sportsman will be to say that this is their "mon fils". 🙂

38 likes, nice man, nice 😂
Great match, unbelievable 👏👏👏
It's always a pleasure to see him playing
An elite athlete
Monfiiiiiiiiils 🙃❣!!! He showed again why I love Tennis sports.
Good luck Gael, what a player! 💪🏻
Gael in the best form of his life. Taking his tennis seriously But having fun. Still so fast around the court. Amazing to watch
Instinctive awareness of where the space is to hit into
This made me very happy
With better health and luck, this guy is a lock for at least one GS. Too bad its probably too late, but fingers crossed 🤞
Really made my day! So good for tennis!
Never seen him play so well in terms of point construction. Love this Monfils 2.0 and the celebration was lovely.
What a player monfils. 38 years and still a joy to watch.

What an incredible performance. Such smart tennis too
WHAT A PLAYER !!!
Stunning player!
Fantastic..Monfils executing a superb game plan and playing world class tennis. If he can beat Fritz, you'd think he can now take the title ?
Gaël could conceivably beat Shelton or Musetti in his next round, then also Michelson or de Minaur, but then he runs into Sinner
He tends to crumble in finals so I don't see it
