Karen you are so inspiring. I love your thrifting videos. When I was younger, poor people used to thrift and get tease for it. It still amazes me people do thrifting hauls. I came into fashion and styling. When you don't have a lot, you make things work. I still have amazing finds that are worth hundreds of dollars where I paid $10-$20 especially coats. I’m over 50, started a channel. I absolutely love it. I agree with the 3 ladies, start your channel simply because you love what you do. It is also important to make quality videos even if you feel no one is watching. I do not have a lot of followers but brands are reaching out, I have several brand deals already! My advice for ladies over 50…do it… start your channel!

There is a big difference between people leaving mean comments and constructive criticism. Not every suggestion or question is coming from a mean place and “influencers” need to learn discernment because they themselves can end up coming across as mean when they respond to those comments/suggestions/questions. I think you and Jenee do a good job at being able to tell the difference.
The commenter needs to put themselves in the shoes of the content creater when leaving comments. Craft your comment in a way that it will not be taken the wrong way. Let's not put it all on the creaters. Followers can do their part as well.❤🤓
@@theluxuryminimalistraveler I agree, some commenters do need to do a better job at how they word things. But I have also seen examples where some influencers just seem to only want praise and take any comment/suggestion as if it’s coming from a negative place and that’s not always the case, that’s where, in my opinion they should take a step back and learn how to discern between the two. There is room for BOTH the commenter and the influencers to do better.
From what I've seen in my years following first bloggers in the early 00s and now content creators, many commenters are just plain rude. There is a difference between the way constructive criticism is worded vs being a jerk. People are often rude on the internet because they can be, and then when they're called out on it, they try to say that they were just trying to give constructive criticism, or they say the person should be able to take it since they put themselves out there.
@@OddWeird461 you are absolutely correct, I have seen those rude comments as well, I have also seen examples where influencers don’t seem to be able to handle or simply don’t want your suggestions/questions. Both Influencers and commenters need to do better.

Since I am working in a completely different industry, I was always curious how does it work behind the scenes and what obstickles you have to overcome, especially at the very beginning. What I love about your channel is that you stayed true to your own personal style, and not wearing what everybody else is wearing or is currently popular. And that you are not affraid of colours. You are true inspiration for me. I will check out the channels of Monroe and Jenee for sure, because I really liked what I saw on their IG (already subscribed 🙂).

Monroe is rude. I used to follow her on Ig and she posted a story of her outfit and captioned it ‘OOTN’, I genuinely thought she made a mistake and responded ‘OOTD’ and bam she blocked me. Later I saw her on someone else’s stories saying that ppl who correct her are annoying and she blocks them. Mind you my comments on her stories had ALWAYS been very complimentary and this comment wasn’t derogatory in any way. The experience said a lot about her and made it clear she was not someone I should waste my time supporting.

This was so interesting. I’m a 70 year old woman who is fascinated by you vloggers/instagrammers. Just realizing all the work that goes into making videos, YIKES, I have thought about it but wouldn’t have the slightest idea what I would do for content other than funny politics. Or maybe sewing, or just life as a retiree. You mentioned seeing someone like myself on social media, haven’t found that yet. Oh well. I think this line of work takes balls. Like massive bravery. The salary is unpredictable and I don’t know. I couldn’t do it. Not even for high figures. I would be stressed out. I would think can I do this for how long? Won’t people get sick of my content at some point? AND I NEED to interact with people on a daily basis and talk someone’s head off other than my husband’s. I imagine it to be a job where you use a lot of time just talking to yourself in front of a camera. I would go mad as an extrovert. And you have to give a lot of yourself as well - for others to see - people that you don’t even know or can see or hear. Hats off to you ladies and to all the other RUclipsrs out there. It’s a ballsy job.

The commenter needs to put themselves in the shoes of the content creater when leaving comments. Craft your comment in a way that it will not be taken the wrong way. Let's not put it all on the creaters. Followers can do their part as well.❤🤓
@@theluxuryminimalistraveler I agree, some commenters do need to do a better job at how they word things. But I have also seen examples where some influencers just seem to only want praise and take any comment/suggestion as if it’s coming from a negative place and that’s not always the case, that’s where, in my opinion they should take a step back and learn how to discern between the two. There is room for BOTH the commenter and the influencers to do better.
From what I've seen in my years following first bloggers in the early 00s and now content creators, many commenters are just plain rude. There is a difference between the way constructive criticism is worded vs being a jerk. People are often rude on the internet because they can be, and then when they're called out on it, they try to say that they were just trying to give constructive criticism, or they say the person should be able to take it since they put themselves out there.
@@OddWeird461 you are absolutely correct, I have seen those rude comments as well, I have also seen examples where influencers don’t seem to be able to handle or simply don’t want your suggestions/questions. Both Influencers and commenters need to do better.
@@mochagirls5874 Absolutely! I had a recent experience with an influencer & I was a bit shocked by her reaction to my comment which was made in a very lighthearted manner. Lesson learned.

Since I am working in a completely different industry, I was always curious how does it work behind the scenes and what obstickles you have to overcome, especially at the very beginning. What I love about your channel is that you stayed true to your own personal style, and not wearing what everybody else is wearing or is currently popular. And that you are not affraid of colours. Monroe is rude. I used to follow her on Ig and she posted a story of her outfit and captioned it ‘OOTN’, I genuinely thought she made a mistake and responded ‘OOTD’ and bam she blocked me. Later I saw her on someone else’s stories saying that ppl who correct her are annoying and she blocks them. Mind you my comments on her stories had ALWAYS been very complimentary and this comment wasn’t derogatory in any way. The experience said a lot about her and made it clear she was not someone I should waste my time supporting.

This was so interesting. I’m a 70 year old woman who is fascinated by you vloggers/instagrammers. Just realizing all the work that goes into making videos, YIKES, I have thought about it but wouldn’t have the slightest idea what I would do for content other than funny politics. Or maybe sewing, or just life as a retiree. You mentioned seeing someone like myself on social media, haven’t found that yet. Oh well. I think this line of work takes balls. Like massive bravery. The salary is unpredictable and I don’t know. I couldn’t do it. Not even for high figures. I would be stressed out. I would think can I do this for how long? Won’t people get sick of my content at some point? AND I NEED to interact with people on a daily basis and talk someone’s head off other than my husband’s. I imagine it to be a job where you use a lot of time just talking to yourself in front of a camera. I would go mad as an extrovert. And you have to give a lot of yourself as well - for others to see - people that you don’t even know or can see or hear. Hats off to you ladies and to all the other RUclipsrs out there. It’s a ballsy job.

The information you all gave let anyone who thought that they might want to become a blogger/influencer/Content Creator that all you have to do is begin and do it for the love of it and especially at first to not worry about followers at first but to check out the different platforms and your followers should grow. I wanted to try to do it but at 67 and retired. I thought I was too old to do it.
